Mazen’s 4th Birthday

Mazen (1 of 1)-25 this !

If you were turning four what would you request? We planned a day full of his favorites: popsicles for his class party, Citizen Burger for lunch, birthday cake ice cream for a treat, and pizza for dinner. Plus a handful of presents he has been talking about for months!

I made him this birthday week calendar so he could keep track of all the fun things going on. We’re celebrating some more this weekend with grandparents, and a party with his friends!

We caught Sylvia as they were leaving school. These two love each other so much!

After school, Matt and I took him downtown for lunch. He rode his bike all the way there!

Despite the giant bowl of sweet potato fries in front of him, he was a bit grumpy. We think in retrospect he was just hot! I don’t get why kids can’t just say “I’m hot.” Instead he grumped and complained about being out to lunch and perked up when we had ice cream for dessert.

We walked back to Matt’s to see his new Star Wars legos!

And then to my house to open more presents. Batman all day over here!! He’s been talking about this Bat Bot for ages. It’s remote controlled, transforms, and plays all kinds of sounds. I also got him these figurines and a Nerf blaster. #boytoys

We had homemade pizza for dinner topped with his favorites: mushrooms, peppers, pepperoni, and spinach. I used a pre-made dough from Whole Foods, and it was delicious!

We played Bat Cave games well past bedtime : )

I spent some time re-reading my birth story, and looking at newborn photos of Mazen.

He was so cute!

Happy birthday Mazen. I remember corresponding and following you guys on twitter the night he was born. Considering I only know you from your blog, it still felt like waiting for a family member to give birth. I have recently moved away from central Virginia and miss it. . Your blog brings me a little piece of home.

So sweet! Happy birthday Mazen!! What a fun birthday week!

(I am the least paranoid/most naive person ever, and I know you take super care with Mazen’s privacy, but I got a lil nervous when I saw a calendar showing his activities over the weekend… some people are weirdos out there!)

I loved how you dedicated the whole week to the bday boy!!
On another note, I have always loved your informative posts and thoroughly value your expertise and would like to know your thoughts on shakeology. Is it really a healthy meal replacement shake? What sets it apart from others? Please? And thank you!

Ehhhhh not a fan. I’m looking at an ingredient list now. Whey protein isolate = not real food. (Maybe just the vegan one would be better. I prefer whole protein like pea.) A lot of the other stuff – good for you, but not really necessary for a healthy life. I don’t really think meal replacements are a good idea. Whole foods are the best way to get your nutrients. I think this would be fine to put in a smoothie with other whole foods, but I wouldn’t rely on it for your diet on a daily basis. You need diversity!
