Lunch With My Wildcat

Foodblog (1 of 3)-4 this !

How cute is he with his messy hair and new Davidson shirt!?

Whole Foods is one of our favorite lunch spots because there is so much variety. Soup? Salad? Hot Bar? Sandwich? Pizza? Raw fruit? 1,000 different drink choices? They have it all.

Pizza and broccoli for the bean –

Foodblog (3 of 3)-2

And a garlicky kale salad with a tamale, catfish, grilled eggplant and plantains for me! LOVE Barefoot Bucha – perfect blend of sweet and tart.

Foodblog (2 of 3)-2

What did you have for lunch!?

I started cooking beans in my slow cooker and the only one I seem to cook well are the black beans. Larger beans like Great Northern and Roman seem to get mushy. If you’ve done these two beans in the slow cooker with success, I’d appreciate if you could give the water amount and the time it took to cook them. : )

I pretty much do 6-7 cups of water per 1 lb of beans or peas. plus a tablespoon of salt. my inspiration: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/slow-cooker-chickpeas-recipe.html (chickpeas) and http://cafejohnsonia.com/2013/02/how-to-slow-cooker-black-beans.html (black beans). I usually dump them in the slow cooker around 7 am before i leave for work and come home to yummy awesome beans/peas around 6:30 pm. easy (chick) peasy.

Is the first picture in your house and the last picture in Whole Foods? It looks like you have the same chairs! That’s kind of cool! 🙂

I love Whole Foods’ raw broccoli salads. Are you a fan? I’ve made some attempts to recreate them, but with no success. I love your blog!

I enjoyed a slightly later lunch of a pasta salad I made earlier in the week [and shared on my blog 😉 ] consisting of kale, roasted garlic, smoked salmon, lemon, parmesan, short-grain pasta + an apple and roasted mixed nuts. Mazen looks adorable in his Davidson shirt!

Is it just me or does Mazen look a bit like your dad? Adorable!

Ha, Whole Foods leftovers for me! Picked up some hot bar yesterday evening while shopping. In previous posts, you sold me on the mac ‘n cheese and garlicky kale, so I made sure to get some!

butter chickpeas and saag, which, coincidentally, I learned about here eons ago when you posted a saag and red lentil dal meal 🙂

love wf lunch bar. I always get a kombucha but never have room for it with lunch, so I usually save it for later

I love whole foods hot bar, but today’s lunch was a peanut butter and raspberry jam sandwich on flax bread, with an apple on the side. And a cup of chocolate chai tea.
