Looking Up

Things started looking up after my post – maybe a nap and some Kashi love was all I needed. It was a super-charged weekend on top of this crazy schedule .

I decided to go to the Express YMCA near our house – it’s a little farther than our usual Y but it’s also brand new and was fun for a change. I had a GREAT workout on the ET while reading about the B Vitamins and had a fun time in the fancy new locker room being a jock.

Since time was crunched, I grabbed some leftovers and a smoothie from Smoothie King to replenish my glycogen stores 😉 This time I tried the Angel Food – bananas + strawberries and it was quite good.

I combined the smoothie with leftover Asian Millet Salad . This wasn’t our best salad, but it wasn’t bad either.

Studying at a picnic table –

And Chem lab was rather painless tonight – we got out at 7:30!!!!!!

I was quite hungry when I got home around 8:15 so I had a bowl of TJ’s Organic Morning Light.

Off to study – test in the AM!

I posted this in my CK Blog but with how busy you are I doubt you’re looking at that! I knew you’d be excited so here’s what I wrote:

“I told Shaun, I made a “big decision” today. He said “What? You’re going to sell the house?” Umm…no. But MY big decision is that I’m going to only buy 100% grass fed, antibiotic and steroid free, local meat from here on out. I finished Michael Pollan’s “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” and I’m almost done with “In Defense of Food” and it just makes good sense. I’ve also been watching a lot of “Jon and Kate Plus 8” about a family that has twins and then sextuplets-that’s SIX babies for a total of 8 kids. Her kids have never had fast food, very rarely have processed food, and they eat mainly organic. If she can do it with 8 kids (6 of which are 3 years old) then I can do this for my family of soon to be 3.

I am VERY lucky that I can have this meat delivered to me with my weekly local organic fruits and veggies that I get. I also have the option of joining a “Meat CSA” where I can pick up a months worth of frozen meat. If I go that route, I can get a box that contains: 2 pounds of “steak” (meat cut into steaks), 4 pounds of “braise or roast” meat, and 5 pounds of ground meat for $75 a month. 11 pounds at $6.81 a pound-I pay that today for the ground turkey I get! The types of meat (which I can exclude one type -which for me will be Veal :nono2: ): Beef, Lamb, Goat (goat is actually quite tasty), Pork, Veal, and Poultry. Here’s a link to their website if you want to know more about this all-natural, sustainable farm, who’s livestock I’ve ridden by on my bike! http://www.marinsunfarms.com/index.html

For now, I’ll be ordering from Planet Organics (delivery) from this same meat supplier and if we like it, I think I’ll sign up for the CSA. It means my freezer will be packed with meat but I’m okay with that. I’m also going to start ordering eggs from Planet Organics “Beyond organic eggs. The chicken forage on grass, seeds and natural forage as opposed to corn! Local, Watsonville grown and raised, They have a wonderfully “sweet” flavor not found in any other eggs.”

That will leave my grocery shopping to: Milk, Yogurt, Grains, Oils, and Canned goods (like spaghetti sauce). Shaun’s lunch will probably continue to be food bought from the store as well, since it’s fast and easy. He usually gets things from the Trader Joe’s Frozen food aisle or bratwurst/burgers with potato or macaroni salad-since he comes home for lunch and can just throw things on the grill. If I were a SAHW/M, I’d make sure that his lunch also followed all these guidelines that I’m trying to follow but since I work full time, he has to deal with food that he can make on his own, or that I can make a big pot of on Sunday to last him the week. YAY for being healthy and for it fitting out budget!!!

And yes this is one more point for staying in San Mateo vs. moving to Pennsylvania ;)”

    YAY!

Awesome Chels!! A meat CSA sounds so cool. I hope we can also have the opportunity to do something like that.

See you in 3 weeks I hope!?

    Kath,

Are you interested in losing more weight, or are you perfectly happy with where you’re at now? You look great to me, but just wondering about your personal goals.

    Thanks!

    Erin,
Not trying to answer for Kath or anything, but she has said that she is at her goal weight and is maintaining, (hence why she is no longer counting calories nor regularly weighing herself) . . .

Also, wanted to ask Kath, what size Smoothie King do you get?

Chelsea, thanks for posting that link. I live in San Francisco and would love to join that meat CSA! I love buying locally farmed/raised products.

I was wondering if anyone feels that they hydrate to the point where they are not eating enough I am all about my water bottle. I need to be because I exercise about 4-5 hours a day (lifting, ballet, and tennis…random mix, but I do these things 5 days a week and do longer day hikes the other two days). I am constantly replenishing with water. I have the big Sigg bottles and I drink about 10 a day. I always drink a full one with meals, and sometimes I feel like there is so much water in my stomach that I can’t eat that much. Here is a typical scenario: I get out of ballet and I’m famished, I drink a full Sigg, and then I’m not really hungry anymore and don’t eat until hours later. I know there is the thing about mistaking hunger for thirst, but my situation seems different, at least to me, especially since I am otherwise constantly hydrated. Any thoughts? Thank you so much!

Oh I am in the bathroom all day! My boyfriend makes fun of me because I literally cannot make it through DINNER without getting up for a pit stop. Sad, actually…..

sammy- i know everyone says that getting enough water is really important, but you are probably drinking too much. i think it’s 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of body weight. so if you weigh 120lbs, you need 60 oz, which is less than 8 glasses. obviously drink a bit more if you’re exercising or it’s hot or whatever, but no need to over do it.

    Erin ,
I’m not trying to lose more weight, but if I did lose some, I’m not sure I would put effort into gaining it back – unless it was a lot and/or put me in an unhealthy range or appearance. I’d have to cross that bridge when I get there. But for the most part I’m just hoping to maintain right now, as I’m very happy with where I am.

    Jen ,
    I think it’s 20 oz.

    coco ,
No reason other than they are awesome and chewy!!

    Sammy ,
If you’re having to go through dinner (as in can’t go 30 minutes) I would guess that means you’re drinking too much. Water is a little overrated considering we get hydration from all kinds of liquids and foods we consume – including coffee + tea. If you’re dying of thirst, you might want to rule out clinical reasons, but if you’re just drinking for the heck of it, I’d slow down a little. You don’t need that much H20.

Sammy, I drink a lot of water too and my doctor actually said that I was drinking too much and that my sodium levels were low as a result, so just be careful. I drink about 3 litres a day plus other drinks. If you exercise as much as you do you will need to hydrate lots but maybe you should ask your doctor what they think. I know how you feel, I am in the loo all day too!!!

We have a new YMCA Express too! I love my gym but would like to try it out. Do they have classes and everything else (no pool, I know) like bigger gyms?

Ours has classes – but a limited number. It’s small, but it’s fun because it’s new and feels so metropolitan.

Sammy- this could also be a sign of diabetes insipidus (it is not diabetes related.) If you are really not drinking that much and still urinating a lot, you might check with your doctor.
