Look At The Stars

IMG_1432

Look how they shine for you!

this !
Stars and RW&B in honor of our fallen soldiers

I was in the middle of preparing a red, white and blue Memorial Day breakfast (since I have no clue what day it is and forgot yesterday!) when mom told me “DON’T EAT BREAKFAST!” Matt and I knew what was coming, so we shared this bowl of yogurt and fruit to get a little nutrition in before…

Dad surprised us with our annual beach trip donut breakfast! The only day of the year that donuts taste reallllly good! We’ve been doing this every beach trip since we were small, although in the olden days on the Outer Banks there was a great local shop we favorited. We like tons of flavor variety and filled donuts and cut them into small pieces so we can try as many as possible. My dad was going to go by Britt’s (local favorite) here too, but they weren’t open early enough.

Donuts

My favorite turned out to be the chocolate one with white stars! But I love anything with sprinkles or frosting-filled.

Anyone want to test my blood glucose level now!?

IMG_1435

Storm’s a brewin’ up the coast….but no sign of it yet! I’m mentally preparing to spend our last day here tomorrow tucked away with a book or a puzzle.

As a miltary member, thank you. I lost two members of my unit a few weeks ago, so this year’s Memorial Day was more difficult than others (although I have regretfully buried more friends than I care to reflect upon).

On a happy note, those donuts look super yummy!!!

Why oh why do things seem more appealing when they are in new or different shapes?!!? A star-shaped donut actually seems like a special occasion–and thus good reason to eat one–to me!!!

Donuts look amazing. I went to Smorgasburg (giant market of best food vendors and purveyors in NY) in Brooklyn on Saturday and there was this homemade donut stand… They looked out of this world. All really big and flavors like blood orange and hibiscus flower. I actually didn’t get one, now regretting it! haha!

Hope you’re enjoying the beach, really missing it this morning.

Donuts bring back childhood memories for me too! I don’t recall our family ever buying a box full of donuts as my mom was a juvenile diabetic and donuts were not on her list of foods! So I used to love to stay over at my friends on the weekend because that was their tradition also…weekend breakfast box of donuts! I remember thinking this was heavenly…all the choices! It’s been awhile now…my boys have food allergies that do not allow us to eat donuts. I have tried to make them…perhaps I am due for another batch!

I never eat doughnuts- it’s not that I don’t like them – I guess I just would never have one for breakfast since they don’t fill me up (well, I’d have to eat 5!). But, for dessert? I’d be in.
But I like your style of tasting each of them- I’d do the same!

Donuts are such a “Dad” thing for me! We used to go every Saturday to Dunkin Donuts (followed by the Park and the Library) with my Dad when we were kids. My favorite was Boston Creme, with a carton of chocolate milk! My sisters loved the strawberry frosted and the white icing with rainbow sprinkles!

    Enjoy the sun!

I remember that you were not impressed with them on your New Orleans venture but the only “donut” I crave is a good ole beignet from the Cafe du Monde. My dad worked there when he was in med school and every Sunday morning he would bring us a sack of them still warm. I was only 2 or 2 at the time. Maybe it’s the memory that I crave.

My childhood favorite doughnut was a jelly bismark. It was from the bakery on the corner, and we had them every Sunday. It had a granulated sugar coating, and the most delicious jelly filling. Memories!
