Lemon Drop

I had such a relaxing day – I can’t remember the last time I did so little and didn’t have that “I should be doing X” in the back of my mind.

And my afternoon snack was pie!! How fun is that. The last little piece from last night (that’s an appetizer plate not a dinner plate

 this !
)

Foodblog-4758

When Matt got home from the bakery, we freshened up and walked the ~1.5 miles over to Faith and Tate’s house for dinner! They have been crazy busy this summer with lots of trips and adventures, so we were excited to get together for one final double date before we turn into 5!

Foodblog-4786

Loved chillin in their new kitchen!

Foodblog-4777

Faith made the most delicious fried fish to go inside fish tacos. I swear her food always has something magical about it that tastes so fresh. I think it’s her generous use of fresh herbs!

Foodblog-4788

Foodblog-4782

Foodblog-4791

On the side we had a bean + avocado salad and a cucumber and tomato salad – both equally fresh and summery!

Foodblog-4790

Taco assembly!!

Foodblog-4793

Yum.

Foodblog-4797

For dessert, Matt and I picked up a special treat…

Foodblog-4762

Cappellino’s Crazy Cakes here in town has a really interesting trend going. According to the owners, 124 women (and counting) have gone into labor after eating their Lemon Drop Cupcakes right near their due dates. This is one wives tale (or not!?) that I wanted to participate in, as it’s the eve of my due date! Could it be the dose of sugar? The lemon concentration (acid near the uterus?) The placebo effect? The due date timing? Who knows! The owner told us that some women have near instantly gone into labor when their water breaks on the spot and others took a little longer (24-48 hours), but that there is definitely something about them : )

Foodblog-4760

The cupcake was absolutely delicious and VERY lemony – very zesty!! I loved it – excellent frosting!!

Foodblog-4798

After dinner, we walked back downtown. Sadly, the owner of Bella Boutique, Thom, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the salon family and friends put together an event to help raise money for him tonight. We donated a gift basket from Great Harvest and wanted to also stop by and show our support. Although I have never had the pleasure of going to Bella, my friend Seamane has had Thom as her hairdresser for ages. The event was lovely with a huge turnout, and will hopefully help out Thom during this difficult time.

Foodblog-18

After chatting with some of our friends, we headed back home, covering about 3 miles in all tonight.

The moon sure was FULL!

A few days ago, a fellow commenter and I both posted about having eaten eggplant on the eve of our labor! My water broke less than two hours post dinner that night! It’s silly, but all this speculation is fun indeed!

I hope this cupcake helps you progress happily, healthfully and comfortably. Here in Los Angeles we have a place called Caiote Cafe and they have a labor inducing salad. I think it’s similar to the labor inducing eggplant parm in that it has tons of oregano. But I think it works like raspberry leaf to prime but not induce.
    Happy hopefully birthday 😉
