Lately

Foodblog (10 of 12) this !

^^ Teenager Mazen reading some new books Aunt Larbs and Uncle Matt sent for his bday!

Foodblog (11 of 12)

^^ The sunniest side up plus PB toast and strawberries. Coffee is back!

Foodblog (5 of 12)Foodblog (6 of 12)

^^ Rose and dinner at Petit Pois before the Frankie Ballard concert! That tuna salad was excellent.

Foodblog (7 of 12)

^^ I did not love the Frankie Ballard show though. It was way too rock n roll focused for me and not enough twang-a-langin’ country tunes!

Foodblog (4 of 12)

^^ Mazen’s first dentist appt!! It went much, much better than I ever could have expected. Teeth look good! (Although we were warned braces are likely, based on his close together teeth…)

Foodblog (1 of 1)

^^ Leftover meatballs over salad for lunch with tomatoes from the garden and cheese.

Foodblog (1 of 2)

^^ Had it twice. Just as nice!

Foodblog (1 of 1)-2

^^ Cook Smarts lasagna served in a spaghetti squash!! BRILLIANT! It was delicious. This squash was extra large, so Matt and I just shared it as one bowl. Broccoli on the side.

Foodblog (1 of 12)

^^ This fish game M got for his birthday is so great! He loves it and plays it once a day.

Foodblog (1 of 2) copy

^^ Dinner at the Struckmann’s. Pesto salmon, salad and dilly green beans.

Foodblog (2 of 2)

^^ Silly Sayas after school!

Did you guys ever get Mazen’s teeth checked when he was a baby/early toddler? I’ve been holding off on an appointment for our 16mo as it seems un-necessary.

I was told 3 is ideal for a first check since pediatricians often peek around in there earlier

Speaking as a dentist, you should have your child’s teeth checked within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth and no later than 1 year old. There is more to the first appointment than looking at teeth, such as counseling (dietary, oral hygiene) and getting your child comfortable in the dental office.

Our pediatrician always told us to go at age 1 as well but I would have to literally sit on my child at that age to get her through that trauma, haha. She is 2.5 now and much more realisitic for her to be able to get through it so I am going to start looking into pediatric dentists. My husband and I’s dentists don’t take children until 5!

Just 1 mom’s input. My pediatrician said I should take my child at 18 months old, but my dentist doesn’t start seeing children for their own appointments until they are three. So I made an appointment with a special pediatric dentist, and it was a terrible experience. 18 months was too young for my child to really understand what was happening and the pediatric dentist was accustomed to working around this with young children by holding them down and cleaning their teeth while they cried. This did not work for us, and we left very early. Next we chose to wait until my child turned 3 and could attend an appointment with our regular dentist. Until then she attended my cleanings where my amazing hygienist let her spend time learning about the tools sitting on my lap during the cleaning and getting comfortable with everything. Her first appointment at 3 years old was perfect. No TV distractions needed, no problems. With my second child I’m definitely waiting until he’s 3. Perhaps the younger visits are necessary for families with little knowledge of basic dental hygiene or for families who are a big sugar consumers, but after my experience they kind of just seem like a money grab. FWIW, my old school dentist says it’s crazy to take a child younger than 3 to the dentist.

^^^money grab is absolutely right. I can’t believe they ALREADY commented on a probable need for braces, that’s ridiculous lol. He’s THREE.

They wanted to take my wisdom teeth out years ago and I always said no, I hate the idea of oral surgery. Low and behold they’re still hanging out back there with no major problems.

Is Mazen in the same class as his buddy? Also, why do you call the “Sayas”? I have always wondered!

No, she’s in a class older than him but they do lunch together. And Saya is what Mazen called Sylvia before he could say “Seevia.” She called him Saya too!

I may be late to the party on this one, but what does “Sayas” mean? I always see you referencing the two of them as that and I have no idea what it means 🙂

It’s their nickname for one another. Mazen couldn’t say Sylvia so he called her “Saya” and she called him the same. Now they can say each others’ names just fine, but they occasionally still say Saya. We call them the Sayas together.
