Happy breakfast to you!

IMG_2050 (480x640)

While I was nestled all up in my bed, my oatmeal was soaking into a dough blob.

IMG_2052 (640x480)

I combined 1/3 cup oats, a 6-ounce container of Stonyfield French Vanilla yogurt (the old school kind – I liked it and I’m not a big vanilla fan!) and 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk.

This morning’s toppings included a tbsp of flax, 1 sliced banana, ~1/4 cup Nature’s Path granola, and a blob of Almond Haze.

IMG_2051 (480x640)

Bob Marley joined me for breakfast too. I really am so impressed with these Marley Coffees. I guess I was thinking with the cool marketing the coffee would be average, but it is some of the best I’ve had. The first I tried is still my favorite!

IMG_2047 (480x640)

I decided that since I don’t want to give up coffee, I can at least reduce my portion a bit. It will save coffee and caffeine. The reason I usually have mugs filled to the brim: food photography!! It’s much prettier when there’s froth near the top. So bear with me as I take photos of half empty mugs.

Munch. Sip.

Hi, ho, it’s off to work…you know.

I’m with you on the coffee/caffeine thing! 🙂

I really love cappuccino, so my way of getting around is it to have tea most days of the week, and cappuccinos only 1 – 2 days a week.

And Vanilla Stonyfield is yum-my! 😀 Sometimes I have it with Grape Nuts and raisins, and a few chopped walnuts thrown in (plus a small amount of Renew Life Fiber)

You should get some of those glass/clear coffee mugs (and im sure you need more mugs like a hole in the head) but they make for some cool photos! You can get the swirliness of adding milk AND the bubbles without them being full to the top!

I usually make my coffee pretty weak, so I think it all works out in the end. 🙂

Stonyfield yogurt is probably my favorite brand. I also like just plain Dannon yogurt. I used to hate plain, but now I love it, especially with fruit or honey.

I’m the same way with coffee… i NEVER see myself giving it up! I always pour myself a full much (i like the idea of a full mug of coffee) but generally only drink about half. 🙂

I went through a time where I weened myself off of coffee. I really like it, but after having one cup about a month ago, I haven’t stopped drinking it since! I definitely don’t drink as much as I used too, but I would love to not like coffee as much as I do!

LOVE soggy oats. I mean overnight oats 🙂 Or muesli, as the Europeans say. I can never seem to mix yogurt and milk, though… somehow makes it taste like spoiled milk to me. Maybe using almond milk or soymilk is different than cow’s milk, though. Looks delish!

I’m pretty disciplined at keeping to one coffee a day. Unless I have appointments at work, it always leads to coffees and somehow I feel rude not having one.

I used to be crazy addicted to green tea. I would get headaches on the weekends. Now I have a huge glass of green juice to give me a kick start to my dragging energy in the morning. I hope (crosses fingers) that I have ended my caffeine obsession. But a full (or half full) cup of coffee always looks delish!

Seems like a universal “issue” for all the bloggers to be trying to cut coffee out of their lives, and then we (WE WE WE, well ok perhaps I should just speak for ME) invariably let it back in! 😀 Can’t be THAT bad for us, right? I switched to Half-caff after two docs recommended it. One a urologist b/c I was peeing like a race horse all the time, and a cardiologist b/c I was having random palpitations. Caffeine wasn’t the smoking gun, but could have been a contributing factor.

you inspired me with your overnight oats, so i did the same last night right before i went to bed. i added some frozen blueberries and half a frozen banana as well. This morning i added a dollop of pb and some cinnamon. it was pretty yummy, but next time i might consider heating it up…do you eat your overnight oats warm or cold?

I use to love my morning coffee as well. I then realized it not normal to need something to wake me up when I should be already awake from a good sleep! I then changed it to afternoon coffee only. Then again I realized I don’t need coffee in the afternoon, I should be full of energy from working out and sleep.

So I slowly started drinking half cups and then switching to tea. It was a process, and the withdrawal of the coffee was rough but I made it! I love the taste of coffee and I think that was my excuse to drink it but really it was from caffeine purposes. Now on occasion I’ll share a cup of coffee out or I’ll order a decaf if available. Other then that, it is tea and even sometimes I can skip that for a few days!

Seeing as I have been known to make my oatmeal in coffee, I would say I’m not going to be quitting any time soon… But you know what? That’s okay. There are definitely worse things I could be addicted to and quite a few medical journals have shown that coffee in small doses can even be good for you, especially pre-workout.

I need to get off of so much caffiene for stomach reasons. I’ve started making half-caf with a mix of caffinated coffee and decaf. Still gets a bit of a caffiene hit but not so much that my stomach revolts.

    Hi,
I just started reading your blog and I am enjoying it very much. You have motivated me to get healthier. I recently started running again and I remember how I loved the way it made me feel after a good run. Thanks.

I do have a question about how you eat your oats. You have probably already answered this question, but I am still trying to read your older blogs and would love to try one of your oats. I know you do not like to stir it, but how do you eat it with your spoonful of peanut butter?

    Thanks.

    Katie,
I eat them cold, but sometimes I microwave for 15 seconds or so to take the chill out of the bowl.

    Maria,
I’ve been just putting the blob in the middle and dipping into it little by little as I work my way around the bowl. Welcome!
