Just Missing The Babe

Foodblog-3978

I woke up to this view this morning. Can’t wait till there’s a squirmin’ worm in there!!!

I tested out the nursery bed last night so Matt could get some quality sleep without me tossing and turning. It was kind of bittersweet sleeping separately, but it looks like he got a great rest. Our bed was neatly made when I went in there this morning!

Foodblog-3972

Plus we were only 10 feet away. More great news: with the baby’s white noise machine, I couldn’t hear his shower at all!

Foodblog-3975

The nursery twin bed was comfy and the room very cheerful to wake up in! I got a nice foam mattress topper for this bed and these fun sheets at Target. Also a waterproof mattress pad for nighttime nursing + leaks : )

Foodblog-3977

So did you notice our new rocking chair!? I had a moment of panic when I realized we had no seating in the nursery last week. There’s no space for a big glider, so I started looking for a petite rocking chair. The one I just painted wasn’t the right shade of green (it totally clashed with the walls) so I started browsing Pinterest and then Amazon and found this amazing rocker for $125! Love it and it’s very comfortable! [Bike pillow from Etsy!] I don’t plan for this to be my long-time nursing chair (I realize I need more comfort and will likely be downstairs during the day or reclined in bed at night…we’ll see) but it’s more of a 10 minute resting + rocking chair and a place for visitors to the nursery to sit.

Foodblog-3982

Breakfast this morning was quick cereal with fruit. Barbara’s Shredded Oats with a mix of Cville Cluster, blackberries and a Frog Hollow Farm peach! Another box of peaches arrived on my doorstep, and I couldn’t wait to try them.

Earl Grey! Sad the Olympics are over : (

I love the idea of having a bed in the baby’s room – I hope we have space for that one day!

I never thought about having a bed in the nursery before. It makes total sense, but as someone who is childless (for now!) the thought wouldn’t have crossed my mind!

Are you guys planning on sleeping apart every night when the baby is born, or is it just for the rough nights? A night or two away from my husband every once in awhile is totally fine, but I think many would make me kinda sad…

We don’t know for sure. In the beginning we will probably sleep together, but once he goes back to working full days and I can sleep during the day, I don’t want him to be sleep deprived for months on end. So long as we get quality time before bed, I don’t think it really matters so much where the literal sleeping occurs.

I love sleeping in the same bed as my husband, because I love waking up next to him. But we both sleep so much better when one of us takes the guest room. Even when we visit my in-laws lately, we sleep in separate rooms. I have become a blanket-stealing, toss-and-turning monster during my pregnancy, and I go to bed much earlier as well. We do just fine on the “quality time” before bed (or in the afternoon…or the next morning…), and it’s certainly not every night that we spend apart, but it’s crazy how well we both sleep when we each have a huge bed to ourselves.

Sleeping apart from the hubs was one of my least fav parts about the first month of parenthood. We took turns and shifts. I missed sleeping next to him very much. But we made it thru. 8 months in and everyone is sleeping great! It will ne nice to have a chair in the nursery.

Actually it’s from World Market and we used a 40% off coupon! It’s like the Pottery Barn Farmhouse (out of my price range) but I think with the coupons it was only in the $400-500 range when we bought it 5 years ago!

Is the baby going to start sleeping in his crib at night right away? I am pregnant and my baby will sleep in a pack n play in our bedroom for a little while before going to his nursery. I always have these fears he will never end up in his crib because I will want him close all the time 🙂

This could totally change when our baby comes but I fully plan on sleeping in the same room as hubby. I know it kind of won’t be fair since he is working full time and I’ll be staying home – but both of us are the parents! With continuing to take care of the house, our 2 dogs, cooking, on top of baby duty it’s not like I will have THAT much time to sleep during the day either. If I know he has a big meeting or something really important the next day I may retreat to the guest room but otherwise I think he should experience the same sleep deprivation that I (no doubt) will!!

    hey kath,
since your post this morning reminded me of your interior decorating talents (new career avenue post-baby?) i had quick question — i’m moving into a new apt. and had to buy real adult furniture for first time. i got a dinning room table that i will probably want to keep covered (to protect it when it’s just me) — do you have any recommendations for funky tableclothes or placemats/table runners? i find tablecloths so old fashioned and lame, but hoping there might be a hip solution that would make it look pretty and protected! thanks! PS:hope you are feeling well in last weeks before baby — good luck on the delivery etc.!

Hmmm. I’d try my favorite stores – World Market and Pier 1 first. Crate + Barrel probably has some funky ones. Etsy would be a great place to go too – definitely some funky ones there but they might be more expensive.

i’m not sure if i have ever commented! i love your blog! myself and my almost 2 year old son loves your whipped banana oatmeal.

the pictures of the nursery and your room are so crisp. your house looks lovely! so clean, fresh and pretty 🙂

may i suggest blackout curtains for the nursery. it’ll help when baby is on a predictable sleep schedule. at least it worked for us. the sun doesn’t wake my little guy up and he can get a restful nap during the day in his chilled, dark room. sometimes going 4 hours at a time….and that’s after 12 hours solid at night.

good luck in the coming weeks! i absolutely loved my sons birth and wish i could experience it over and over again. i also loved the early days, too. those first few days are just magical. <3

Cute nursery! You might enjoy having a back rest pillow on the bed for nursing! I nurse brantley every morning propped up w/ my backrest pillow from target and the boppy cradling brantley, then we go back to sleep together for an hour or so! My favorite part of the day!

Foam ear plugs work wonders. My husband used them during the newborn days and many mornings he had no idea I had even gotten up during the night. 🙂
