Juicy Couture

IMG_8885

It’s been a looooong time since I juiced!

Each week, I put a cucumber, celery, greens and lemon in my cart.

And each week I end up eating them before I can juice them!

IMG_8865

I brought my juicer up from the basement in his neat carrying basket. I have a Breville Juice Fountain Plus and love it. Read the story of the acquisition here!

IMG_8861

I juiced up:

  • 2 carrots
  • 5 celeries
  • 1 whole cucumber (I always include a cuc because they provide SO MUCH juice for only $1)
  • 1 knob of ginger
  • Half a lemon
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach (which doesn’t juice that great – but it’s all I had)
  • 1 apple, cored

I just love that foam!! I’m not sure what the nutritional information is for juicing. My guess is since the juicer extracts everything but the indigestible fiber, the nutrition is pretty much the same as if you ate all those veggies whole – minus the fiber of course.

IMG_8892

On the side, a pair of donuty english muffin halves

IMG_8891

Topped with mashed banana and Nutty’s Butterscotch (you’ll want to sign up for my newsletter if you’ve been waiting for a Nutty’s sale.. !) plus coconut and chias!

IMG_8897

Oh no, I didn’t forget the coffee!! Went back for this mug after I finished my other two components

IMG_8899

I’m in the middle of Eat, Pray, Love – pretty sure the theatrical version is 4 hour and 45 minutes! I am LOVING watching it. I have a thing for movies and books that are descriptive. I’ve come to realize that I hate listening/reading and love looking. I prefer description to dialogue; beautiful cinematography to a fast moving plot. Sometimes I like the reading or watching process more than the plot or ending itself. This movie is definitely keeping me entertained visually!

Not sure what’s on my agenda today. I have a ton to do in general – both fun and concentration-centered – but pretty much no deadlines for any of it so there’s no pressure.

    The juice looks pretty.
Kath, I have a question about smoothies. I am not a mindful eater/drinker. And I can down a 500 mL homemade smoothie in less than 15 minutes. Tips on how to slow down? Am I the only speed-demon whose mind is a million miles away while she eats?

I went to see Eat Pray Love in the theater (the cinematography was beautiful on the big screen!) when I was making a career/moving decision and felt like my life was a mess. When she was in Rome, she said that thing about the city being built up around ruins – “Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.” I left the move theater feeling refreshed and like my life was just transforming. 🙂

        Here’s the whole quote!

[Rome] has grown up around [ruins] over the centuries. It feels like a precious wound, a heartbreak you won’t let go of because it hurts too good. We all want things to stay the same. Settle for living in misery because we’re afraid of change, of things crumbling to ruins. Then I looked at around to this place, at the chaos it has endured – the way it has been adapted, burned, pillaged and found a way to build itself back up again. And I was reassured, maybe my life hasn’t been so chaotic, it’s just the world that is, and the real trap is getting attached to any of it. Ruin is a gift. Ruin is the road to transformation.

I got through the first few sections of the book but could not finish it – and I almost NEVER finish a book once I start it.

I haven’t seen the movie but it is on my “want to watch list.”

I have been thinking about using my juicer recently as well – it is such a pain to clean but there is nothing better than fresh juice.

    What a cute mug! I’m a sucker for pink-anything.

I would rather be entertained visually than have an action-packed plot, but the ultimate for me is a “thinking” movie. A movie or book that says a lot more about life than having plot is golden in my opinion.

Pssst – the movie isn’t 4 hrs 45 minutes. We thought the same thing for a moment when the disc arrived. There are two different versions (theatrical and director’s cut) on the disc, and Netflix added the time up and put that as the total running time. It’s about half that. Silly Netflix. 🙂

I’ve been looking at the juicer attachment for my Kitchenaid stand mixer, but I’ve never actually tried any of the veg/fruit mixes before. I need to search out a smoothie and juice place in my area and figure out what I like before making that investment….. the green ones just look so weird, yet tasty at the same time 🙂

Makes me want to pullnout out my juicer my SIL gave to me. It’s just a pain to get all the crevises clean and I even say that after having a dishwasher. There’s a store near me in Haddonfield, NJ called Animo Juice and they make the best juice called “pipe cleaner”.:-) Worth the $6 splurge.

Loved seeing your kitchen photos too. I think i need those open cabinets by the sink for bulk stuff & chuck my HUGE 16 yr old microwave in the basement pantry.
