It’s About Time!

That I got a KERF mug

 this !

IMG_9413 (1024x768)

Woke up at 6:25 this morning, and my alarm went off at 6:26 😉

After some electronic reading in bed, I rolled onto the floor for some much-needed YogaDownload. I did the 20 minute Sun Salutation Flow and loved every second. My quads are a little tired from the warriors, but I feel much more stretched out.

Then I came home to make this:

IMG_9408 (1024x768)

Ever since I made this breakfast last week, I’ve been craving it again. It was that good and unique!

I made the same combo as last time but used some of the Nasoya Silken Creation leftovers instead of soy milk and used the rest of that Vega Vanilla Chai packet. I liked the vanilla chai enough to buy it again – the flavor was that good.

IMG_9412 (1024x768)

The mix:

  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen berries (I used Cascadian Farms Organic from Costco that I’ve had for agggeees)
  • 1/3 Vega packet
  • ~1/3 cup Nasoya Silken Creation tofu
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds soaked in 1/2 cup soy milk
  • Splash skim milk when I needed more liquid
  • Mix My Granola, enhanced!
  • Futter Nutter Hazelnut Butter – the best thing ever on smoothies in a bowl

IMG_9414 (1024x768)

+ Bigelow vanilla chai tea

CHICAGO

Chicago readers – send me an email!!! KathEats at Gmail. I’ll be sending you one back later on about my trip schedule and trying to fit in a meet-up. If you have a preference for when and what day (Sat. night, Sat AM, Sun AM, PM breaktime), let me know!

Too Many Good Books!

IMG_9415 (1024x768)

I finished Too Many Cooks on the plane yesterday and have a chance from Emily Franklin herself to give a copy away!! I wasn’t until after I finished the book and felt like I “knew” her that I realized we had actually emailed! She’s famous! I am going to hunt out some more of her books, including one I saw on her website about your 20s – with a big ol’ 26 in the title!! It’s a Wonderful Lie: 26 Truths about Life in Your 20s. I bet she’s got great wisdom.

Leave a comment telling me a “grown-up food” you liked from a very young age (or the worst kid food you lived on) to win a copy of the book!

***

I’m off to get my ducks in a row.

I loved eating croissants for breakfast as a child! I don’t remember how I got started on them, but once I tried them I was hooked on the buttery taste & flaky texture. I wasn’t a big breakfast eater, so my parents got them for me to convince me to have something in the morning!

I loved coffee! When I was 5-6 years old, my grandpa would put a tablespoon of his coffee into my milk at dinner time. It would turn my milk just into a light milky brown color and I felt so grown up! Like I was drinking coffee with him. I’ve loved coffee my entire life!

I don’t know what my worst kid food was that I loved….maybe sugar cereals? My mom never kept them in the house, so when we had the chance to eat them at a friend’s house I was in Heaven! 🙂

    Thanks for another great giveaway!

Of course, I can also remember being little and eating those little sausage/hotdog things in the jars (ewww) and my fair share of cheese slices (otherwise known and “processed cheese food”).

Oh yeah, and I forgot to comment how hilarious it was that the first thing you wrote when you got home was “only one dead bug so far!”

I HATe bugs too! On Sunday night, there was a spider on my ceiling and I needed to go to bed b/c I had work the next morning with a 6 am wakeup call, but I couldn’t reach the spider! Not to mention I’m so terrified of bugs. I had no one to help me though, and I was semi freaking out about the bug until I realized something. I could squish it with my swiffer!!! My swiffer was the perfect length to reach the ceiling and I love how the bottom is flat so it can just SQUASH it, rather than having the bug accidentalyl fall down, which would’ve freaked me out, esp. since my bed was right underneath. haha anyway, just had to add that I feel you on the bugs!

Coffee! I started drinking it at age 8, not because I particularly liked it- but because I figured out that if I had a cup of coffee after holiday meals & family gatherings, I could sit around and hang out with the adults instead of having to go play with my bratty younger cousins! My little brother is still mad at me that I figured that out, and he always got stuck entertaining the little ones 😉

Full of fat, giant chocolate chips and soooo high in calories-I cannot believe I didn’t weigh 800 pounds! When I turned thirteen and got hips, I figured eating ice cream every morning was not the best idea in the world. Now I only eat it once a month (but for dessert, not breakfast!).

Probably the most grown up food I ate while growing up was my bowl of puffed rice in the mornings. I was such an unhealthy eater and this was the only cereal that I could agree on with my mom…I felt so cool to eat what she did. Yikes…no fiber at all and not filling. Sheesh…if I only knew then what I know now…..

Well, I think most “grown-up” thing I enjoyed as a child was Coffee. My mom let us try it thinking that there would be no way we would like it, and my brother and I loved it! How many six year olds request coffee ice cream for their birthdays parties (more than 20 years ago, before coffee was “the” thing)?

Otherwise, I enjoyed lots of grown-up good – veal marsala, chicken paprika, etc. My parents were great about challenging my palate. 🙂

I have always liked squid, clams, tomatoes, spinach (spinach sandwiches!!), and cottage cheese as long as I can remember.

We owned an ice cream stand when I was growing up, but we rarely had any junk food in the house. We lived on a small farm and grew a TON of vegetables.

I loved creamed spinach… still do!! My grandma made creamed spinach with blackened onions in it, and put it crepes. We had it every single time we went to my grandparent’s house. It’s been one of my favorite meals since.
I also loved all kinds of seafood — especially a big ol’ bucket of clams. Yummy.

ha! I actually had to grow up a *lot* to learn the value of good food. My first time in college, I went to design school, and I was up all hours. I lived on Pepperidge Farm Cookies, ice cream, and the horrific coffee from our cafeteria. Taking a quote from Castle, that coffee was like “A monkey peed in battery acid.” But it kept me going. And I never gained a pound, which is insanely hilarious since getting the right nutrition and working out are like my 2 PT jobs now. 🙂

I think I went through a phase of “not liking” them anymore but I think that was upon realizing that most kids don’t actually like those foods. (Of course now I LOVE them again!) I also used to ask for sips of my mom’s coffee. She always said no but sometimes would let me have the last “drop” from the bottom of the mug. 🙂

Ooh, I would love that book. Let’s see, this is going to sound super weird, but when I was little my grandpa would always used one of those fake butter sprays for his food because he has a bad heart and was avoiding real butter/cholesterol, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I started spraying it on everything you would think to put butter on (toast, baked potatoes) because I wanted to be like him and spray my butter. 😉

Gross kid food? My sister and I used o make a dip with mayo mustard and ketchup, and use cheetos to eat it!!! Gross! Hamburger grosses me out too – except the Amy’s Organic brand I’m dying to try!

    Paté!

My parents took me to France when I was almost one year old (born in August), and suddenly I decided I didn’t want breastmilk anymore, or that silly babyfood in jars.

The only thing they could get me to eat was French bread, and paté – liver paté, mostly.

I still like it a lot!

I don’t really have a food that I can think of that I eat that my mom labeled as a “grown up” food. She just encouraged us to eat whatever she made. Although people always found it hilarious when my brothers and I chowed down on seafoods like scallops and clams when all my cousins would turn up their nose and prefer a grilled cheese or hot dogs.
