I Married A Baker

Oh me, oh my – I sure married a baker!

Somebody got “bored” at home today and experimented making whole wheat Carrot Raisin Walnut muffins (top secret Great Harvest recipe, sorry!) What a sight to come home to!

Half jumbo, half mini muffins

IMG_5254 (640x427)

I had a mini….followed by crumbles of about a half a jumbo! They were unbelievably good!

IMG_5280 (640x427)

While we pondered how to relax, Matt declared “We’re opening a bottle of wine!!!’

Then the next question was, red or white? Twitter was indecisive, so we went with red.

A bottle from Old North State Winery we got at the Great Grapes Wine festival last fall. It was SO amazingly delicious in a very non-traditional wine way.

IMG_5258 (640x427)

What’s that robotic contraption? It’s the Ravi Wine Chiller. An Open Sky discovery. Basically a frozen metal insert that you pour wine through and it chills it to the perfect drinking temperature. For this red, it was probably about 57-59*.

IMG_5265 (640x427)

I have to say, this guy has been in my possession for a while and I haven’t had the time [or desire] to try it. But I was more than pleasantly surprised. Matt and I poured a taste directly from the bottle (so not chilling it) and even in our air conditioned house it was WAY too HOT! The chiller worked really, really well.

If your heart so desires:

After 1.5 hours of sipping vino and watching SYTYCD, we thought it might be time for dinner.

Featuring these beautiful organic green beans from Poplar Ridge Farm where Emily is interning! We did a CSA share there a few summers ago and would have done it again this year in a heartbeat if we hadn’t have been moving.

We have plenty more where these came from… expect to see beans a lot!

IMG_5278 (640x427)

Sautéed in some EVOO plus blackening seasoning that made the dish

The main event was a Brie + Green Omelet that was postponed from last night.

IMG_5291 (640x427)

2 eggs with a splash of water cooked with chopped spinach and oregano, added brie and some herbed goat cheese and topped with microgreens.

I love these little sprouts!

We had great dinner conversation about life beyond the next 2 weeks. Excitement!

It’s a lot of black pepper, crushed chilis, vibrant spices… not too spicy, but incredibly flavorful!

Where are you moving to in 2 weeks-did you find a rental in your new city to be yet?

Wish Opensky was not so prevalent in so many blogs-it’s like commercial placement in movies…can’t stand it!(just keeping it real!)

But so far I try and skip those bits (today with a buy this button too!)and just enjoy the rest of your blog which is lovely.I just wish product placements weren’t becoming so darn prevalent in some of my fave blogs 🙁

Thanks for listening and best wishes for the move!

Think of Open Sky as just another opportunity. Some people appreciate the option to buy things they might not have in their hometowns on the spot. Others could care less. Options in life are a good thing.

I agree with Kath! It is great when I see a really awesome product on her blog that I could have the chance to have as well. Plus there are a lot of promotions for those really cool items so you can score them for a great price. I’m just waiting for Opensky to begin shipping to us Canadians… 🙂

That wine chiller gadget is so cool! I would totally get one if I were a wine-drinker. (But good thing I’m not cause I totally can’t afford it!) And I really want to get a hold of some micro-greens. Maybe at the farmer’s market tomorrow morning?
