I Live With Kings

Check out my to-do list for today!

Ba-da-bing! (Well, I did delegate some stuff to tomorrow, but I feel good about what I got done!)

Todo

We have a King and Queen chair set from my grandmother’s house and I found this little guy pretending to be a king! I think they are called potato bugs?

IMG_4248 IMG_4246 IMG_4247

(No, I did not get that close – Matt took the photo!)

Speaking of Matt = King of Sandwiches

IMG_4255 IMG_4260

We ran out of energy for tonight’s dinner (and I didn’t really have a plan). The only ingredients we had to use were brussels sprouts and mushrooms. So I roasted a pan of those in some EVOO, maple syrup and salt and pepper for about 35 minutes at 400*.

IMG_4256

Lovely browning!

IMG_4251

I didn’t finish all the veggies – I was in a weird stomach mood. I saved them to have for tomorrow night’s dinner.

And the other half of dinner was a mish-mosh of CHO + PRO.

Some leftover egg salad on kashis

IMG_4254

IMG_4258

And the best cheese delivery sandwich of late. A thin slice of sourdough, avocado, mustard, half a ham, and 2 slices Kerrygold cheese. So good!

The view from the dining room was so pretty, but we knew it was freezing cold out there! I think we lost 30-40* overnight last night and are expecting a freeze tonight. (Yes, I realize there are those of you in blizzards right now, but it’s all relative!)

Long day tomorrow, but then I have 3 days that I am taking totally off of school work to spend with my family. My hard work these past 2 weekends has paid off.

Night!

EEEK!!! What a creepy bug! I hope Matt squished it for you too!

I don’t understand how brussel sprouts got such a bad reputation! They are so good when you know how to cook them right!

Mmmm I could eat brussel sprouts every single day!! I bought a gigantic bag a couple weeks ago and in a panic I froze some when I couldn’t finish them before they went bad….now I don’t know what to do with them! Have you ever frozen/unfrozen brussel sprouts? Were they mushy??

Ick! That’s a major close up of the bug! Whenever I see photos of bugs (or frogs) I get itchy feeling. That is the craziness inside me!

    Beautiful brussel sprouts, though!

Those brussel sprouts look delicious! When I try roasting anything, they tend to skip the browning part and straight to turning black.

I’m planning on a trip to Charlotte with a friend. Do you have any recommendations for activities or places to check out?

My sister and I always called those bugs Stink bugs. Not sure why, but it seemed to stick!
I’ll have to try the maple syrup on the brussel sprouts idea… I’ve always just stuck with olive oil and sea salt. Looks good though, Kath.
    And that’s a nice looking to-do list, too! 😀

That’s not a potato bug…I’m not sure what it is but potato bugs are much cuter and curl up in little balls. Heh heh….little balls…

I’m not going to comment on the size of Matt’s sandwich.

Question: How difficult would you say biochem is in comparison to general chem?

Eww! We call them stink bugs here in Maryland too. Apparently if you crush them they let out some terrible smell. So I shut my eyes and pick them up in a tissue na dthrow them outside, or scream for the husband!! They come in every spring!! good luck!

    Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats,
No, I haven’t ever frozen them. Better to go ahead and cook them all and then have easy leftovers to put on salads or in soups.

    dippers ,
Hmmm…Charlotte isn’t the most touristy city. I’d say be sure to check out East Blvd. in Dilworth where a lot of shops and restaurants are, plus a park. There’s the Nat’l White Water Center about 30 minutes away that’s becoming a tourist spot. I have an email with some restaurant recommendations if you want to email me I’ll send it to you.

    Sarah (lovINmytummy),
    I’m giggling over here…

    Leanne ,
I think biochem – at least my class – is EASIER than gen chem. GC is just painful. It’s easier than organic for sure. It’s simpler stuff and makes more sense.

I love roasted brussel sprouts! When I hear someone say they don’t like brussel sprouts, I always tell them to try roasting them – they’re like a completely different veg! (Although, I admit to loving them steamed as well…)
