I Can Taste Summer!

Here we goooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! My Biochem exam is at 8am and I’ve got Foodservice at 3:30. Lots of studying in between!

I got up 20 minutes early this AM and did 20 minutes of yoga (Hip Opening Flow) to get my body primed for the day. Everyone has 20 extra minutes! Then a shower. And then I quick pre-made breakfast before I hit the road:

Overnight Oats

IMG_5363 (1024x768)

The overnight sit:

  • 1/3 cup Stonyfield low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1/3 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/3 cup raw rolled oats
  • 4 chopped strawberries

Morning toppings:

  • 1/4 cup Uncle Sam’s
  • 1 tsp each of walnut butter + Naturally More

I wanted to keep adding on the toppings for fun, but I am planning to have a post-exam snack and coffee at EarthFare and decided to save a few for then.

Summertime, Summertime, Sum-Sum, Summertime!

I’ve got a ton of fun things scheduled for this summer (Bermuda, wedding, Boston), but the focus of today’s post is BlogHer! I’m heading up to Chicago July 23-26 to attend the conference as a spokesblogger for BOCA’s Balanced Living site.

this !
(<— me doing yoga and de-stressing! ) I had a blast at BlogHer last year and can’t wait to return!

But I recently gained a second sponsor: Stonyfield’s Oikos Greek Yogurt! I’ll be sharing coupons and of course, raving about Greek yogurt 🙂

As I said in this post, I re-tried Oikos recently and was surprised by how deliciously fluffy the texture was compared to when I had it last. It was like a whipped buttercream frosting! When I spoke with my contact at the company, she said they have a new manufacturer and a slightly different texture – definitely for the better!! Sure, Oikos is a little more expensive than other yogurts, but when you consider that this yogurt is the only organic Greek yogurt (and dairy + meat are industries I feel strongly about buying organic) combined with the dozens of efforts Stonyfield does to stay green (think solar panels on plants, wind energy, tree planting, offsetting 100% of CO2 emissions to be carbon neutral, and more), I feel good about supporting the company.

With that said, I’ve got a giveaway to share this AM! Some fun Oikos gear, plus the most important piece: coupons!!

          • Stonyfield Farm Yogurt Cookbook
          • Reusable grocery bag
          • Reusable lunch bag
          • Oikos aluminum water bottle
          • Preserve toothbrush
          • Tire pressure gauge ( super important!!)
          • 4 Free 5.3 oz. Oikos coupons
          • 2 Free 16 oz. Oikos coupons
          • $4 in coupons for other SF products
          • Healthy recipe make over magnet

Stonyfield Giveaway

You know the deal: leave a comment to win, and for fun, share your favorite way to eat Greek yogurt

(NOTE: Due to the volume of comments on giveaways, I won’t be responding to questions – save ‘em for my lunch post!)

One more thing: Bloggers! Give a shout out to Food2.com, a Food Network relative that scrounges the internet for all things cool food, for their “Food2 Freebie Friday” and you could be randomly rewarded with food2 goodies like t-shirts, gift baskets and more. This is my entry!!

I’m outta here!!

Good luck with your exams, Kath! Sounds like you’ve got a great summer waiting for you when you’re finished.

Spring is slow to come to the part of the country where I live, and I normally love Greek yogurt with fresh fruit. But in the winter months I mix it with my homemade strawberry freezer preserves (VERY easy to make)–gives me a bite of summer when it’s gray and snowy outside 🙂

My favorite way to enjoy greek yogurt (and this works with plain, vanilla, or honey) is to top it with pumpkin puree, pumpkin butter, raisins, and a dollop of peanut butter…because my personal opinion is that there are very few things that don’t taste better with peanut butter!

I love Okios and the company impressed me to no end when I had a complaint. I had purchased six containers of (what I thought) was plain yogurt, only to find fruit on the bottom of all of them. Turns out there was a problem when they were switching plants and labels were wrong or something.

At any rate, I told them about this and they made sure I received six small containers at no cost on my future visit. Very nice, very appreciated. Those actions are what keep me scraping together my pennies to buy it when I can!

My love affair with Greek Yogurt started about a year ago. I love the low carb/high protein nutrient makeup. I usually eat mine plain (which surprises the friendly workers at my local Trader Joe’s when they ask me what I do with so much of it!) but I also like to mix in granola, honey, bananas, and even protein powder.

    I eat it almost everyday!

I like greek yogurt mixed with cinnamon and walnuts. Another way I enjoy it is by mixing in some dried fruit and nuts and sticking it in the freezer for about 15 – 20 minutes. That way you get a little ice cream texture.

Yum! I wish I was going to BlogHer!

My favorite way to eat it is to put some frozen fruit in a tupperware in the morning and add the yogurt. Put it in the fridge and by lunchtime, the fruit has defrosted and all the juices have sweetened the yogurt. For some reason this doesn’t work as well when you defrost in the microwave. I used to add honey, but the natural fruit juices add enough sweetness when I use this method!

    Dear Kath,

I just saw your piece on Current TV. I was inspired by your story and would like to live a healthy food lifestyle as you do. However there is a big BUT literally and figuratively.

As I sit eating my frozen Stouffers French Bread Pizza I cannot help wonder what I can do to hit the proverbial reset button.

My wife and I are busy people and lend most of our eating and shopping habits to the convenient and quick. If we do not have a chance to eat at home—especially myself due to being a public safety professional that is not always able to sit and eat a healthy meal—resort to eating fast food. Plus we have a 17 year old in the house that lives by the adage if it aint processed sugary and for some reason fun she won’t eat it.

My question is short of throwing everything out and go shopping to replace our food stores what can I do to have a life style like yourself.

Funny story – I’d been talking to my friend online about how much I like the TJ’s honey flavored greek yogurt. I like it as-is, sometimes I’ll add a little honey. She came to visit me last week and join me in my first 5k (holla!) and asked if she could try one. Sure! I told her. She took two bites and the look on her face was priceless. She HATED it!! I told her she didn’t have to eat it, and she was so relieved. LOL! Sorry – this just reminded me of that;)

What a great giveaway! I personally just love greek yogurt with some good granola mixed in. It’s a good combo of crunchy and creamy.

What a great package! I’ve been upping my greek yogurt consumption despite the price. My very favorite mix-in is blueberries!
