Hotel Martha Jefferson

Good morning!! The bears love their new brother – they made a special hospital trip with Grammie Buzz for the occasion!

IMG_5304

I miss you all so much. I miss regular blogging and it feels really weird to go to bed without posting!  I have SO MUCH I want to share and no time to sit down and write! Maze is keeping us very busy, but I’m sure we’ll get in a more regular pattern soon : ) My parents are here and are a tremendous help with all the household things so Matt and I can focus on taking care of the baby and resting.

I want to go back in time for a bit and share some of the meals I had while in the hospital! I was famished after labor and delivery and pretty much not eating and throwing everything up. The hospital food tasted SO GOOD though and although we had other snacks (like GH bread) to munch on, I was very excited when my trays arrived : ) I shared 25% or so with Matt and he also had some salads and meals from the cafeteria that were pretty tasty.

Day 1 breakfast and lunch: eggs, toast, milk, banana and then the cod and rice meal.

IMG_5196 IMG_5219

Dinner that night was meatloaf and mashed potatoes, which I wolfed down so fast I don’t remember eating them! For some reason 2% milk tastes like liquid gold to me.

Breakfast the next morning I got to order – I chose waffles and oatmeal and yogurt (hungry when I ordered!) I probably only ate about 60% of this tray and shared the rest with Matt, but it was fun to taste everything.

IMG_5245

He dolled up my waffles and oatmeal for me : ) (Peanut butter from home)

IMG_5253 IMG_5247

Day 2 lunch was a pork chop, but I opted for the alternative hummus sandwich and tomato soup instead. I wanted something a little lighter than a dinner entrée for lunch.

IMG_5271

IMG_5273 IMG_5274

My dinner came at 5pm, and although we had plans for a pizza party after, I ate some of it as a snack.

Chicken and rice soup, a biscuit, salad and fruit.

IMG_5312

My parents brought in some Christian’s pizza and Karen arrived home from NYC in time for our party!

IMG_5356

We said cheers with a little pumpkin beer!!! [Can you tell I burst all the blood vessels in my eyes!?]

IMG_5333

IMG_5338

IMG_5343

Maze said “y’all are being too loud! I’m trying to sleep!”

IMG_5348

Great Harvest cookies for dessert : )

IMG_5353

Day 3’s breakfast was by far the best – a giant fresh-made pancake which I topped with some butter and syrup! Plus oatmeal (that Matt had) and hot tea, milk and a banana.

Day3breakfast

Baby breakfast was some delicious milk ; )

IMG_5307

After breakfast, it was time to start thinking about going home!

IMG_5369

We dressed him in his finest and brought in the carseat. His hat is from Baby GAP that we picked out as his first clothing item after we found out he was a boy. And the onesie was handmade by KERF reader Rachel!!

IMG_5373

IMG_5382

And on the most beautiful fall day you could ever imagine, we went home a family of 3!

I popped the blood vessels in my eyes with my first baby, too! No one ever warned me it might happen, so when I looked at myself in the mirror, I was shocked! Somehow the second time around, I convinced myself to use muscles others than those in my eyes, and it worked!

I didn’t look in the mirror till day 2 and was shocked to see my puffy & bruised face! Oh the horror! (even after over 2 weeks, a few in my eyes have yet to heal/look better)

I’m not quite sure. I knew breastfeeding was going to hurt, but not as bad as it does at times! I’m surprised how well I’m doing with such little sleep! I’ve never slept this little in my life, yet I’ve definitely felt more tired than this before.

I remember those days. A month or so before my son was due I got an email from my mom saying she wanted to make sure I knew how much breastfeeding would hurt. Hang in there…it will go away in a few more days. 🙂 I knew the actual feeding part would hurt but I was SO surprised at the cramping that went along with it!

Congrats to you and Matt! What a beautiful boy!!

Many, many congratulations again. Everyone says that you can’t imagine what it feels like to love that little person and I always thought it was so lame, even when I was pregnant, but it’s so true. I hope you are immensely enjoying getting to know your little one. Motherhood is just so wonderful even if it’s so, so difficult at times. MAZEl Tov! I’m so glad you had a positive hospital experience! We did infant classes at our hospital and took tours of the delivery and maternal floors – which made me so much more comfortable when we went in to deliver. It’s definitely nice to be looked after during your recovery!

My favorite part at our hospital was that when you transition floors, from delivery to maternal, they play Brahms’ lullaby over the speakers! We heard it a few times when we had visited the hospital before – it plays throughout the entire hospital. I remember holding our guy, being wheeled upstairs and hearing it. I looked at him and told him – this is your song!

It is OK to be taking a tiny break from your posting. These are precious first moments as a family of three and you need to fully savor them – years from now you won’t regret not posting multiple times a day but you might regret not spending as much time soaking up the first moments as you can.

Give him a big, huge sniff for me. I know that sounds weird but babies just smell unbelievably wonderful. Nothing smells like them and I love it. 🙂

Of course, we’d all love to see photos of the baby, but this is such a special transition time—time for bonding, settling into a routine, and resting, that no one expects you to blog. I’m surprised you are not taking a MATERNITY break for at least a couple of weeks.
Really, all of us (especially those of us who are mothers) would totally understand if we didn’t hear from you all all right now.Cherish this time with your son, and don’t feel obligated to do any work right now. You have plenty of time for that later.

I hope you are feeling ok? sometimes you can feel a bit blue when the milk comes in, i just felt teary around 5:30pm for about 3 days but it soon passed and was replaced with the most euphoric feeling (which still continues to this day)!!
