Homeward Bound

Mom and I were jocks again this morning and hit the old folks gym at 6:45. I started with about 40 minutes on an elliptical and ended up running 20:26 minutes at a 2.0 incline at level 6.6 on the treadmill. Superstitious, eh!? There was a nice elderly man running on the treadmill faster than my mom was walking!!

After packing up our room, we headed up to the apartment for a farewell breakfast.

I had my leftover portion of oatmeal from yesterday reheated with some blueberries and 2% milk. Plus a tiny crumbled oatmeal cookie and a squirt of a Barney Butter packet. I had Mom and Gram try the remaining 1/3 of the packet. I think they are each going to order a jar!

I also had a bowl of fresh citrus. Love this little antique bowl!

IMG_0667 (800x600)

And as “part of this complete breakfast,” some pulp-y orange juice. I LOVE the pulp!

IMG_0666 (600x800)

Oh, and some tea!

A Southerner enamored by snowfall!! It started snowing just as we left.

IMG_0676 (800x600)

Goodbye Gram + Pop, Smote + Murph! Thanks for the wonderful visit. Hope we can come back soon.

IMG_0679 (800x600)

Mom and I set out around 10:00 in the snow for our journey home. We had planned to find a nice place to eat along the way, but we weren’t hungry at Fredricksburg and were through Petersburg before we knew it, and the last stop was a grimy Subway in a gas station before we hit the barren stretch of I-85. So, we decided to just make a lunch out of snacks, push through and have an early dinner. Luckily I still had a yogurt from the trip up (cooler –> fridge –> cooler) and an apple. Mom and I shared this Luna cake.

Plus the last of the trail mix –

IMG_0685 (800x600)

And another of my aunt’s secret oatmeal cookies 🙂 I love how tiny they are too. It’s been hard not to eat them all day with a tupperware full of them in the back seat.

We just made it home at 4pm – no traffic!! Not a lick of it anywhere near Washington either. We’re relaxing for an hour and then heading out to dinner with my parents to the Ruby Tuesday’s salad bar. I can’t WAIT for a huge salad!!

See ya in my third city of the day 🙂

So, is Barney butter better than the almond butter I get at Whole Foods? It looks good but I hesitate to order it (since I don’t see any RI retailers that carry it) –
    Thanks

I’ll profess my own love of the Ruby Tuesday salad bar. It’s how I was introduced to the joy that is edamame, plus their low-fat ranch has more flavor than some full-fat varieties.

I know a lot of readers eat Larabars so thought I would share here: there has been a Peanut Butter Cookie Larabar recall: “General Mills of Minneapolis is recalling two flavors of snack bars: Larabar Peanut Butter Cookie snack bars, distributed nationally, and JamFrakas Peanut Butter Blisscrisp snack bars.

    Hi Kath-
Random question when you get a chance – which color of the bare minerals are you using? I bought some today to try it out – I bought fair, and I feel like I have a similar complexion as you…but it seems so pale! Just wondering what you’re using.
    Thanks.

Question: did that yogurt taste really cheesecake-y? I’ve tried “cheesecake” flavored yogurts but they always end up tasting more like the fruit they’re paired with. Thanks, Kath!

    Lynn,
Yes, it’s by far the best almond butter ever. It’s roasted, very creamy and slightly sweet. And it grows on you!

    Oh She Glows,
Yes, please send me your pic!! Anyone with KERF gear gets a huge photo shout out!!

    Maggie ,
I use Fairly Light and think it’s a great fit for my skin. It’s hard to see on, but that’s the point, right? Perhaps you got a little too light?

    K,
It was 100% strawberry and 0% cheesecake. I agree – they are never cheesy enough.
