Hometown

Awww, look what the last photo I blogged from this computer was –

IMG_4999 (640x427)

I miss the Bearsies!

The drive to Cville took….5 hours. Ugh. Luckily Matt and I worked out a deal where I didn’t have to drive. Sweet!! I studied some RD stuff. Wrote some freelance stuff.

Ate a date. It was perhaps the best date I’ve ever eaten. Food tastes better when you’re hungry 🙂

IMG_7330 (640x427) (2)

Then Matt and I shared this Probar. I LOVE Probars. I do not like that they are 360 calories and therefore 2 snack-size portions per package. Mini Probars would be awesome. And I think they win the record for the longest real food ingredient list 😉

IMG_7331 (640x427) (2)

I’ve had this Koka Moka flavor for well over a year. Maybe from last year’s Summit!? It was delicious and chocolatey!

IMG_7336 (640x427) (2)

We made it!! I don’t believe Matt and I have every spent time in Cville not in bad weather, with company or on business. Hoping the next few days are a lot of fun! I’ve been considering this house hunting trip a “working” trip but really it’s all play!

IMG_7337 (427x640)

For dinner we went to one of the restaurants on The List: Mono Loco.

IMG_7338 (640x427)

Latin Flare.

IMG_7339 (640x427) (2)

We dined with Matt’s fraternity brother, Dallas, who is just finishing up UVA law school! (And newly engaged!! And moving to ….CHARLOTTE!)

IMG_7342 (640x427) (2)

Matt got a Spice-a-rita to drink. A margarita made with jalapeno. I had a few sips – it was awesome!!!!! One of the top 3 margaritas I’ve ever had.

IMG_7340 (427x640)

When we restock our kitchen, we need more of this jazz –

IMG_7341 (640x427) (2)

For dinner Dallas got some kind of pork tostadas

IMG_7344 (640x427) (2)

Matt got the Nola Loco – burrito filled with fried oysters!
IMG_7345 (640x427)

And I hit the jackpot with the “Day at the Beach” filled with cod! This was a burrito in bowl form that had rice and beans on the bottom, lots of salad, corn, grilled cod,

IMG_7346 (640x427) (2)

And yuca fries!!! For some reason I had imagined these would look like Meghann‘s yuca fries 😉 It never occurred to me that they’d actually be…fried. But they were totally awesome and I ate ’em up.

IMG_7349 (640x427) (2)

I had a white sauce on mine too – I asked for it on the side. Glad it did because it was really rich. I did some dipping though. Ate about 75% of my dish and really had to listen to my stomach, which was screaming “I’m stuffed” when my mouth was saying “feed me more!”

IMG_7348 (640x427) (2)

I was extra stuffed because we ordered a side of fried plantains!! I LOOOOVE plantains!! These were doused in an apricot glaze that was out of this world. I think I had 4 total? They were really rich, but oh-so-good.

IMG_7351 (640x427) (2)

After we said farewell to Dalla$, we went for a walk to digest. After all, walking is good for digestion!

IMG_7358 (640x427) (2)

After a nice round downtown, we settled down for a nightcap.

IMG_7360 (640x427)

I didn’t want a whole glass of wine, so I decided on port!

IMG_7361 (427x640) (2)

You know how I’m always saying how we should spend $10 on foods that we love (like peanut butter or swiss chard) because we can so easily spend just as much on something (like wine or a dessert) just as expensive in a restaurant? I will not tell you how much this tiny, tiny pour cost!!

IMG_7362 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7363 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7364 (640x427)

IMG_7367 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7366 (640x427) (2)

Tomorrow, the hunt begins.

Nite!

Good luck with the house hunt! I love watching House Hunters ;p

This question may be a little random, but I thought I would ask anyways. What do you do when you feel like you have overindulged/eaten too much of some not so healthy food? I struggle with an eating disorder so I tend to really feel guilty about it and usually beat myself up about it for days afterwards. Any advice? It seems like you have a great balance when it comes to eating and that is something that I struggle with constantly. I either eat way too little or overindulge. Any advice would be really appreciated. 🙂

      Chelsea,
One meal does not an unhealthy eater make!! It’s part of the ebb and flow of life. You’re not going to gain weight from 1 meal. Heck, I had dessert every night at the beach last week and don’t feel that I gained everything. Probably because the rest of my days were pretty healthy. Focus on healthy foods most of the time and TRUST yourself that you’ll be fine.

Kath as you know…a restaurant makes most of its money from the bar. If you just said “I’d like a port..” then they probably poured you something “special”. Since it’s a fortified (high alcohol) dessert wine, I’d say that pour looked OK, and would be comparable to a pour of any fancy high shelf “after dinner drink” like brandy. Anyway…as long as you enjoyed it is all that matters. Try a Frangelico sometime..it’s hazlenut liqueur. Yumm!! http://www.frangelico.com/

Ah, Mono Loco–I miss it! Kath, I just know reading your blog from now on is going to make me so homesick! I’m sure that everyone has been saying this to you, but, you will absolutely love C-ville!

Has anyone pointed you in the direction of the Country Store, yet? It has one of the most extensive and *cheapest* salad bars in town on the weekdays. They also have great homemade baked goods and fresh soups every day. It’s on the pavilion end of the Mall only a few doors down from the discovery museum. A great place for a quick lunch!

Good luck on your house hunt!

Love plantains as well as walking after dinner. Seriously makes you feel so much better!! You look so very pretty in all of the photos 🙂 It’s so funny about the pour of port and comparing it to things like nut butter. Like Kombucha is SO expensive, but costs the same as an average beer, or cheaper. Have fun + good luck!

I love Probars! They were invented by snow boarders who wanted something high in calories to keep them going without taking a long time to eat and that could be stashed in their pockets.

The whole point of them is to be high in calories. I eat them when hiking, although it takes me a long time to eat one because they are so rich. They are good supplement to PB&J.

When you are burning almost 3000 on a hike, those 360 cals (and accompanying carbs and protein) come in very handy!
