Happy As A Clam

Give me free Wifi, an outlet, a rocking chair, a view and friendly staff and I’m happy at an airport for hours.

IMG_0024 (600x450)

Love my home base! (Although it is expensive and has no good restaurants – it also has zero traffic and a 3-person maximum security line!)

IMG_0025 (600x450) IMG_0023 (600x450)

I also had a hot chauffer!

IMG_0022 (450x600)

Since we have tons of food in our fridge, I opted for a packed lunch instead of stopping by Whole Foods. This lunch is better than WFSB!

IMG_0021 (450x600)

Dakota bun with black bean coconut dip

IMG_0018 (600x450)

Plus mixed greens salad with cucumber and green pepper, coconut oil dressing, herb salt and goat feta!

IMG_0020 (450x600)

Intend to munch on this mid-flight!

IMG_0017 (600x450)

Excited also that my flight from Cville to Philly is direct!! I don’t know if I’ve been to Philly in my memorable lifetime, so I’m ready to explore!

Enjoy Philadelphia! It’s my home town and I love it so much.

Here’s a link to a self-guided walking tour. I don’t know if you’ll have time for it but it does highlight some of the must see historical parts of downtown. You can pick and choose too from the map.

I’ve only been to Philly once about ten years ago and all I can remember is the Italian section and TONS of restaurants everywhere 🙂

Everytime you photograph feta it seriously pops of the screen with shear deliciousness. Love goat feta! I added some regular feta to millet last night and it was soooo good!

Where oh where did you get that charming shirt!? I love the key hole, black and white stripes, red trim and buttons… too cute!

Kath – If you have time, you should check out the Reading Terminal Market, which is right near the Convention Center downtown (http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/). I was in Philly for a convention last January, and discovering this place was the highlight of the trip. TONS of food vendors (you can pretty much get something from any genre imaginable), all in one location!

Yeah! Its a sit down place that doubles as a high end food market run by Jose Garces, one of Philly’s “Iron Chef’s” so everything is really well done. They have great small plates and pizzas (and some regular entrees as well)… but the coolest part is that it is a BYOB with the wine store IN the restaurant! Anyway, that’s my plug… but there really are bunches of wonderful restaurants in Philly, you can’t go wrong :). Have a great trip!

Too many recs to list, but I will reccomend La Colombe Coffee on 19th if that appeals, and DiBruno Bros. Markets for yummy prepared food. In addition the history galore you get just walking around Society Hill and downtown (where I lived) you could check out the Constitution Center off Market Street, the view from the City Hall building, the Art Museum, and the Rodin Museum (sister to the one in Paris). Have the best time!:)

I lived in Philly for most of my life and I must emerge from lurkdom to second the La Colombe and DiBruno Bros recommendations. La Colombe has been a favorite since I was in high school, and the cheese and olives from DiBruno Bros were my splurge when hosting grimy house-parties. You know, to class things up a bit.

If the weather is nice, I recommend taking your La Colombe and/or DiBruno goodies to Rittenhouse Square (a third thing I love about Philly) for a coffee-break or a picnic. I have especially fond memories of sitting on the stone benches and walls in the oval center. Good people-watching, and a lovely (cheap/free) place to catch up with friends.

By coincidence (I swear!), I’m visiting Philly this weekend. I’ll be on the lookout for bloggers. Have fun!

Lunch looks so delish! I lived in philly for a year for ballet… if you have the chance try to make it to Sabrinas, seriously some of the best brunch food (huge portions tho). There is often a wait but it is worth it 🙂 It is pretty popular, for good reason!

Hey Kath! If you want a great workout in Philly (and the most fun you will EVER have..), you should check out www.phillycircus.com for an intro to aerials class. They often do them last minute if an instructor is available. I have been taking aerial classes for two years there and am in the best shape of my life because of it! I promise you will not be dissapointed ;). If you need any suggestions for some great places to eat/visit/explore, feel free to email me! And, have fun!

You’re going to love exploring Philly! If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat that’s a Philly classic, you should try the water ice at John’s Water Ice on 7th and Christian. It’s a tiny little place with a small menu, but it’s totally worth it. And if you don’t want water ice, their butter pecan ice cream is to die for!

Look at those crispy, fresh, glorious seeds! And yes, I always loved Cville airport’s free wifi! Not a single airport in Australia has it that I know of 🙁

I didn’t even know you could bring food on a plane unless you bought it in the terminal AFTER you go through security. Groovy.

I thought about going as a non-blogger since I’m so close to philly, but we’re headed to the beach instead. I was really hoping to meet you and the other ladies I’ve gotten to “know” from reading your blogs…

Have a great time at the conference and in Philly!

    Hey, Kath!

I just read your About page and realized you went to Davidson College! That’s where I go, entering my junior year / fall semester abroad. I’m so excited to find another Davidson girl in the fitness blogging world, especially one with such a fabulous blog!

During the school year I write for Shape Magazine’s website as a college consultant here: http://www.shape.com/blogs/dorm-blogger
and currently I’m writing a blog as I train for the Athens Marathon during my semester in Florence. I’d love to get to know you and network with a fantastic Davidson alum, so come visit me at http://theathensmarathonproject.wordpress.com/!

I know, a lot of my friends who graduated this spring had major panics that they would have a hard time meeting like-minded friends after Davidson. But I know they’ll figure it out. 🙂
Have a great time at HLS!

They are custom made at our bakery. You could put in a special request to your local Great Harvest?
