Halloween On The Horizon

This post is sponsored by Bitsy’s Brainfood

Foodblog (3 of 4)-2 this !

Morning! ‘Tis the season for pumpkin pancakes and spooky green smoothies. I make my pancakes with the Great Harvest mix and add a half cup of pumpkin. The smoothie was a banana, pumpkin, spinach, milk, yogurt, pumpkin pie spice blend.

Foodblog (1 of 4)-2

I’ve started to gather together my Halloween decor. Hunting for spiders in the faux web was terrifying! I kept jumping out of my skin at the sight of each plastic crawler knowing this was hidden it the garage all summer.

The preschool Halloween party is just around the corner. Bitsy’s Brainfood has newly designed Halloween-themed packaging for their Smart Cookies that is perfect for all your kids Halloween events –

These are a great real food choice to hand out when typical treats are nothing but sugar and artificial colors. They are also delicious! Check out my previous post for all the flavors and info. Find them at Target and Wegmans. (They’ll actually be 15% off with the Target Cartwheel app starting on Oct 18th, and here’s a $1 coupon on their website!)

Mazen is going to be Frankenstein this year. He’s really into monsters, and I bought him this little jacket to wear with a black shirt, pants, spiked up hair and green face paint. An easy costume because he can reuse the blazer! I can’t wait to try it all on him and snap some photos : )

Honestly, I don’t hand out healthy treats on Halloween. I figure it’s the one time a year a parent shouldn’t worry too much about the extra sugar. Just have to make sure the parents regulate how much they consume. This year we’re handing out a big mixed bag of different chocolates.

    Hi Kath,

I am usually a quiet reader here and I absolutely love your blog. It’s almost the only one that I read on a very regular basis and I love that you started to post more often again. One thing that I find a bit confusing is that you also started to feature more sponsored posts (last 3 posts were “sponsored by”). I always thought that it was one of your biggest advantages that you featured very few sponsored posts and your blog seemed to be so much more personal than most others. While I understand the purpose of going these posts, I would love to see a couple more personal posts from you or maybe a better mix of both!?

    Cheers, Juls

As a food allergy nurse, I’m more aware of the numerous allergies so many kids have these days, so in support I pass out lolli-pops and non-food items such as pencils, toys, crayons etc. Plus I get to mix it up and they have something different as well!
