You are here: Home / Lifestyle / Good Afternoon?!

April 19, 2009

Good Afternoon?!

I didn’t wake up until close to 9!!! Which meant I didn’t eat breakfast until the 10:00  hour. First I did 30 minutes of Power Vinyasa Flow #1. Then we made oats.

IMG_4869

The mix (for 1)

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1 tbsp farina, 1/3 cup milk, 2/3 cup water, half  very ripe banana
  • Sprinkle flax
  • 2 tbsp chopped salty peanuts and bourbon pecans from Fresh Market
  • Spoonful Maranatha AB

IMG_4868

The farina made the mixture creamier, but it was less sweet! Despite the overripe banana too. I think what I love move about rolled oats is that they are slightly sweet. Oat bran, steel cut, 9 grain cereal, farina, etc. – they all just aren’t as naturally sweet and therefore aren’t as good! I enjoy them all for variety and texture, but nothing beats rolled oats.

IMG_4867

We are out of milk and I had to use soy milk in my coffee. Blech!! It separated, per usual. I only drank about 1/3 of this.

The sun is not out today, but our 10 day forecast looks AWESOME! Sunny and 80* from Thursday onward. So I am waiting patiently.

Not sure what’s on the agenda today other than grocery shopping and finishing my Foodservice project. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a fun outdoors day because there is a big blob of rain on the. I would prefer not to go to a musty gym, but I might have to choose that over being outside and biking. We’ll see.

Enjoy the last few bites of weekend!

the nuts in the oats sound like a great topping! and i’ve still been too nervous to experiment with other grains for breakfast. I’m always oats (quick or rolled)!

    HAPPY SUNDAY LOVELY KATH!

I rarely comment here, but I just read Gena’s very candid post about quitting smoking, and was surprised.

It’s a rare kindness to offer another person words of encouragement through rough patches — just because. It was heartening to read, makes me think kindly of you.

    So, thanks. 🙂

Happy Sunday Kath! Have you tried heating up the soy milk in the bottom of the mug for about 20sec in the microwave and then pouring the coffee in. I just recently discovered the trick and it works really well. I have tried it with both Silk and a store brand and it worked with both of them- no seperation at all!

If you ever want to use soymilk in your coffee again, what helps is to put the amount of milk in your coffee cup, microwave it for 40 seconds and then add the coffee to the milk…the milk definitely will not separate then, I do it every morning!

I’ve had that problem with soy milk too but not all of them seperate!!! Silk has never seperated on me, but when I bought the Kirkland brand from Costco it did! Don’t give up on soy milk yet, and make sure it shake it up REALLY well so you get all the calcium they added at the bottom!

the trick to using soy milk in coffee is to heat it up first, when i do that it never separates!

I’m making oatmeal for my first time and have a few questions…

    1) What brand of oatmeal do you use?
    2) Do you think it’s important to use organic oats?
    3) Do you still add a pinch of salt to your oats? (it says that you do in the Tribute to Oatmeal, but you don’t mention it in your posts)
    4) Do you boil the liquid first before adding the oats and banana? or do you just put in all in at once?
    5) How do you know exactly when it’s done?

Sorry for all the questions, but I really want to get my oatmeal right! 😀
    Thanks Kath!

Just came across your blog, Gina(Choosing Raw) mentioned you.
    The oats look very yummy!
The coffee issue, I use soy all the time. Sometimes it’s the temperature of the soy and the coffee. I like my coffee hot, so I will warm up my soy to add into it, too hot it will seperate. Maybe it is the brand of soymilk. For those just trying soymilk I always suggest Silk, they also have a Silk light that is really nice also.

    Thanks Maria

I ALWAYS HEAT UP THE SOYMILK!!!!!!!! I think per Lisa D’s comment it’s just how Costco’s soy milk is. I’ve used other kinds in coffee before we started buying this kind. I just need to have tea if we ever run out.
