Get Crankin’

Foodblog-5020

Not sure if it’s our third? fourth? day of rain and clouds (likely), my 5th day overdue (also likely) or hormones that is making me cranky this morning, but crankiness is here! Humph.

I don’t feel a thing this morning…except for some wiggles. (But I am very thankful for a full night’s sleep…)

Foodblog-5018

Does this look like a bowl of overnight oats?

Foodblog-5017

It was actually 5 minute oats – meaning I made it this morning. I used pretty much the same recipe for overnight oats with just a little bit less milk since I knew I wouldn’t have the time for the oats and chia seeds to soak it all up. In the bowl: 1/3 cup oats, 1/4 cup milk, 1/3+ cup plain yogurt, 1 tbsp chia seeds, pinch salt, all stirred together. Topped with fresh berries, Nature’s Path granola, sunflower butter.

It was quite delicious for a 3 minute assembly! It didn’t have the doughiness I love about overnight oats, but it still had a fun texture.

Foodblog-5015

I’m thinking about going to the mall. I have never gone shopping at our mall and I need cowgirl boots for a wedding in October! Although I have to wonder if my shoe size is going to be different a month from now?!

Good luck Kath. Thinking about you. Unfortunately I was 10 days late with my first little guy ….who turned out to be 9 lbs, and VERY healthy (just keep thinking about that) 🙂 It’s so hard to go past that due date…especially when everyone you know (at least everyone I knew) seemed to be going early! My co-workers were more and more nervous each day I came in after my due date…haha! It was worth it just to see their faces. 🙂

About the shoe size–not sure exactly when it happened (whether it was right after I had my babies or over time), but I went from a size 8 pre-babies to a now size 9 or sometimes even a 9 1/2 after having three boys! I do think it went up a little with each baby.

My feet have never changed with pregnancy and I just had my fourth. I think if you don’t gain too much weight and don’t have much in the way of swelling you will probably be fine. I actually think a trip to the mall is a great way to get your mind off things.

Also, several weeks ago I told you about the Bravado nursing tanks with built-in bra. I’m not sure if you decided to make the investment but my little one is two weeks old today and this is by far my favorite clothing item – so supportive, attractive looking and really ease to access for nursing. I wish I’d have bought more than one!!! I have cheaper ones and regular nursing bras but this still ranks top of the list!

Hang in there – it won’t be long!!!

On my 5th day overdue with baby #1, to keep my mind off “when the heck is this baby going to come” I too went to the mall . . . I spent all morning/early afternoon shopping, fielding the “when are you due” questions, grumbling “5 days ago”, went out to eat and came home. Guess what happened that night? Boom! A baby 🙂 Sending good luck mall vibes your way!

I wouldn’t necessarily buy the boots today but going and looking would be a great way to maybe lift your spirits a bit. You aren’t going to want to search high and low with a month old baby for boots but if you know where a pair was you liked it would be easier to run in and try them on and get them. I went to Target and wandered before my second one came and I finished my Christmas shopping with my mom the day I went into the labor with my first.

I vividly recall the sympathy I got from so many strangers as I walked around with my “overdue” baby inside for so many days. If you think about it, the baby is in there for about 280 days, so they’re not going to all come out the very day we’re “expecting” them, but it’s still so frustrating, none the less! If I had gone by when I believe he was conceived, I would have been 10 days overdue, but I was five days overdue according to the doctor’s calculated due date. I’m 23 weeks pregnant right now with my second, and I’m going to look at my due date more as a very general estimate this time. I’m officially due January 1st, but I’m saying the “first part of January.” We should just be so thankful that our babies stayed in the whole time, plus some extra — they truly are better off when they’re “fully baked,” even though it can be a physical and emotional roller coaster for the mama!

Fashion Square Mall is NOT the place to buy good cowgirl boots. I have currently have 3 pairs, so I know about these things. Head out to Bootville in Ruckersville on 29 if you want to see good boots. The last pair I got was a pair of Frye boots I ordered online – Zappos I think. I saved over $100 on them. I am definitely one of those women who’s feet grew after having a baby. Mine grew a whole size, from a 9 to a 10, after just one.

Going to the mall to walk sounds like a good idea though.

And it’s day 4 of the grey. Not that I’m counting.

Ah Kath! I think you got a stubborn little fella in there. Maybe at your next Dr’s visit, your OB will strip the membranes. Not an unusual thing for them to do if you are past due. It seems to help most women get things moving. But then, if you are Strep B positive, I think they suggest not stripping the membranes. Been too long since I was pregnant to remember for sure.

I have to agree with the majority about waiting to buy the boots. Some women’s feet change and some don’t. It really doesn’t seem to relate more or less to weight gain. Some super thin women gain a full shoe size, and some heavy women will have feet that don’t change at all.

My favourite oats (just adding any oat tips and tricks – I love learning new ones myself!) are as so:
    1. Pour boiling water over 2/3 cup of oats in a 500mL jar and let that sit overnight in the fridge.
    2. Rinse off the oats (cause no grain is always 100% clean) in a small colander and then flip them into a saucepan.
    3. Add 1/4 cup of water and let them gently boil for a minute.
    4. Add a tablespoon of hemp or chia seed, a teaspoon of cream cheese (need fats!) and serve with a splash of milk and fruit.
