From Water To Grass

I got in!!

IMG_7370 (1024x768)

After two hours of blogging in the heat, I was HOT. (And I found an outlet!)

IMG_7366 (768x1024)

Matt and I splashed around for about 20 minutes and then got back out to continue our computer work.

Karen brought down some tasty almonds – I had a handful of those

IMG_7368 (1024x768)

And Matt and I split this PB LaraBar in half for a 5:00 snack.

IMG_7372 (1024x768)

Then we hopped on our bikes and headed home. It was a loooonog rush houry 5 miles (luckily we’re on sidewalks so we’re not in the way).

As we were leaving Karen’s, she was grilled salmon and I left with a huge craving for meat and red wine. Very random. I wanted burgers, fish, pork! But Matt argued that we’d already spent a lot on groceries this week so we should use up what’s in the house. Sadly I knew he was right.

So we made do with what was planned: tuna. A version of Poor Man’s Gumbo.

IMG_7375 (1024x768)

With a secret ingredient, pineapple, this dish ROCKED!

IMG_7382 (1024x768)

Into a pot to simmer together:

  • 1 can diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 can tuna, drained
  • 1 can Rotel, with juice
  • ~1 cup diced peppers (we used mini ones, but bell peppers would work)
  • 3 minced cloves garlic
  • ~1/2 cup cooked millet
  • ~1 cup diced fresh pineapple
  • Sriracha to taste
  • Salt + pepper

IMG_7376 (1024x768)

It turned into a gumbo-y stew of a soup in the end.

IMG_7378 (768x1024)

IMG_7381 (1024x768)

Served with a toasted piece of Dakota

IMG_7380 (768x1024)

We were able to dine outside again thanks to some bug spray and a citronella candle!

IMG_7379 (1024x768)

Look at this DISGUSTING photo I found on my camera! He likes to drink tuna juice, pickle juice and other gross ends-of-a-jar. I think it even appears to be dribbling out of his lip…blech!

IMG_7374 (1024x768)

But who I am to talk!? I just chugged down some Amazing Grass!

IMG_7386 (768x1024)

Y’all know I’m not into powdered things, but when Amazing Grass offered to send me some samples, I figured I might as well give ‘em a try. I did check out the Amazing Grass website and noted all the benefits and cool things about wheat grass, but what really caught my attention was this email response Abbi posted a while back. If you do have the money to buy powders (or swear by the energy they give you!) then this line certainly is as close to real food as you can get.

Can I say that I am MOST excited about the green shaker cup!? I’ve always wanted one of these!!!

IMG_7383 (1024x768)

So having seen so many of you rave about all–things–green and report that you are “energized,” “glowing,” “peppier,” “have clearer skin,” etc., I figured I’d give this grass a bit of a challenge 🙂

8 superfood packets

6 bigger “meal” packets

4 bars

=18 days of superfood grass

I’m going to try to have 1 product per day and see if I get all tingly inside!

Tonight I had an after-dinner chocolate grass drink. Since chocolate is dessert. In my new cup.

When I opened the packet, I was pleasantly surprised by the cocoa smell. I mixed the packet with half water, half 2% milk.

IMG_7384 (768x1024)

And it was actually quite good! But it was chocolately 🙂 A bit watered down from my watering down, but that was expected.

IMG_7385 (768x1024)

Can’t wait to try the rest!

Now I just gotta get my hands on some chia seeds and a juicer…

Bizness

Winner!

You know what tonight’s dinner would have been good in? A Crockpot!!!

I would love making homemade applesauce in it!

Congrats Emily! Please send me an email to KathEats at Gmail 🙂

Makeover

Lastly, Megan’s Munchies got ZESTY with a makeover.

I’m off to bed. I had to close the patio door because there was rustling outside and as Matt says:

“Ah declaire, it is intoler’bly too hot in he-uh.”

Going upstairs where the windows are open!

Nite.

Never thought anyone would want the remaining tin juice. I always drained the juice out of the can before I get the tuna out anyways.

That green drink plastic jug looks nifty! I think I like the gadget more than the contents.

How can you see the screen on your laptop when you are outside like that? I have tried going on my laptop while laying out, and have found that I can’t even see what’s on the screen!

Eww! I can’t believe Matt DRINKS that stuff! Augh, I’ll stick to the actual tuna and pickles in the jar! 😉

And it does kind of grow on you, actually. 😉

It must take a lot of mental retraining to eat/drink green stuff outside its normal parameters! I’m happy eating green where it’s meant to be- salads, as part of entrees. Seriously, at first, didn’t looking at green oats/shakes make you queasy??

I don’t think I’d want to drink pickle or tuna juice, but I don’t know why it should be considered so disgusting. The liquid isn’t any grosser or dirtier than the solid food we eat from the very same container.
