From Under A Blanket

IMG_7095Blog

A good morning to you all. I’m taking a long time to get going, alternating between sleepiness and freezing coldness. I’m currently wrapped in a blanket! Didn’t sleep well, again. I think my days of hard sleep are over. [Probably for ever.]

IMG_7110Blog

I started the day with a quick bowl of greek yogurt topped with blueberries, honey cluster cereal, chia seeds, Raspberry Chambord jam (one of my favorites ever tasted) and Sunbutter.

IMG_7101Blog

It was good – I want more!

IMG_7099Blog

Plus blueberry white tea

IMG_7104Blog

Might need a new cup to warm me up again!

IMG_7113Blog

I have two appointments scheduled for today: one is really fun and one is potentially horrible. Depending on how it goes! Let’s hope for the best!

I had similar sleep issues at this point last year (4 1/2 months pregnant), but now I look back on those days and think how incredibly well-rested I was — it’s all relative!

Cait’s Plate, enjoy your sleep now. Once you go through menopause, you will have the WORST insomnia/hot flashes/night sweats/and a host of unmentionable (on here) side effects ever!
This is the worst stage of my life. Whenever I do finally go to sleep, I sleep so lightly that I wake up to every little noise—even with a sound machine on loudly next to my bed!
This is what I get for years of staying up worrying about/tending to my kids? Not fair!

I hate when people say you’re getting prepared for lack of sleep, blah blah. I slept great until the mid 30s weeks of pregnancy, and then had some major problems with waking and not being able to fall back asleep. My doctor said Tylenol PM is absolutely safe. I’ve taken it a few times and it is so helpful. Might as well take it and sleep since you can’t when you’re getting up every 3 hours or more. Just passing along!

I used to take Tylenol PM if I was having trouble sleeping a few nights in a row pre-pregnancy and LOVED it. Good to know it’s safe. I think there are some called Just Sleep out there too. – I will ask my doctor about both

My last night of sound sleep happened before I got pregnant in October 2010. As soon as I got pregnant, I would wake up in the middle of the night, not being able to go back to sleep for an hour or two. It was horrible. My mind was racing and I couldn’t make it stop.

Once the baby was born, I woke every 2 hours around the clock to feed him. At about 5 months of age, he started giving me 3-4 hours of sleep before waking up for a feeding. Now at 8 months old, he wakes up 2 times during the night to feed. The most continuous sleep I got since 2 years now is 6 hours.

I used to be one of those people that needed their 8 hours of sleep otherwise I’d feel really horrible during the day. I can’t believe I manage to go on with my days with so little sleep. The body is an incredible machine. I can not wait for full nights of sleep again!

Yes I would say they are. I never, ever sleep with the depth and fullness as a mom that I did beforehand. I sleep with one ear open, so to speak. I think it's just hard-wired for moms to always be able to pop up if we need to!

    Hi Kath,

Invest in a Snoogle! I started using one at 25 weeks pregnant and once I had it, I wished that I had gotten one sooner. It really helped me sleep much more comfortably and took away the anxiety of rolling onto my back (which I am prone to do) since it kept me easily comfortable to sleep on my left-hand side (which is best while pregnant).

I actually just had our baby girl yesterday at 36 weeks (she’s doing unbelievably well) and I slept a solid four hours last night–still with my Snoogle–and today I feel great.

Long time reader, first time commenter. I am 25 weeks along. I had horrible tossing and turning up until about 16 weeks and now I sleep like a log. I am sure the insomnia is caused by a combination of the angst of becoming a mom, hormones, and having to pee constantly!!! I hope it improves for you like it did for me. Basically 16 weeks was when I felt like a new person–back to regular energy, sleeping well, feeling good, eating (and liking) vegetables, etc.
