Flexibility

Tonight gave me some practice working on flexibility šŸ™‚

I started to get hungry while at work around 5pm and had a Clif bar to tide me over. I knew dinner was a loong way out, but this guy seemed to do the trick…for a while.

IMG_7784 (1024x768)

We headed up to Huntersville here Mary works at a health center once a month. She had four 15-minute consultations scheduled, so I got to sit in on those. I really like working with people thus far šŸ™‚

About halfway through, though, I started to get REALLY hungry. And it was frigid in the office. Hunger + cold make me an unhappy camper! I tried to keep smiling though….

Then we went directly into a small nutrition seminar for a few of the patients. We chatted about balanced eating and answer>ed many of their questions. By this point my hunger was shooting pains in my side (although I seemed to have skipped the growling stage?!) And the room had gotten colder šŸ™ But I still enjoyed it. Just wish I’d planned to have a bigger lunch or snack this afternoon knowing dinner would be late.

We were finished around 8:15, and I headed out. I was about 30 minutes from home and while I had mixed nuts and a banana in my car, I didn’t think I wanted to wait any longer for a hot dinner. So I used my AroundMe app on my iPhone to research the nearby food choices. SO CONVENIENT!!! It would have been fun to fine dine alone, but I knew I shouldn’t spend the time or money. Luckily there was a Panera right around the corner!

But when I pulled up to Panera it looked awfully cold compared to this:

IMG_7786 (1024x768)

So I headed to Mooooooeeee’s! I was totally in the mood for warm rice + beans.

I got a vegetarian burrito with pinto beans, rice, lettuce, green peppers, jalapenos and cheese.

IMG_7790 (1024x768)

A tortilla on the side

IMG_7792 (1024x768)

And my free basket of chips (he gave me free queso because I said it was my first time)

IMG_7791 (1024x768)

Salsa!

IMG_7793 (1024x768)

I ended up eating most of my burrito bowl, half the chips and half the tortilla. I focused on just eating a ā€œnormalā€ amount as if I were at home. And it was perfect. It tasted like real food and I ate until I was just satisfied, not full.

IMG_7789 (1024x768)

I came home to find a surprise on my desk! After 3 days together, I didn’t get to see Matt today šŸ™

IMG_7794 (1024x768)

I have no idea what this was or where it came from, but it tasted good! (I think Karen brought it over since they had dinner together)

IMG_7795 (1024x768)

I’m tired and am going in earlier tomorrow, so I better get my beauty rest.

Nite!

Oooh – my favorite Cliff! šŸ™‚ Moe’s looks pretty tasty as well!

Glad you are enjoying work so far. Any tips for finding a good, reputable RD my own area? I know that you won’t have any personal recommendations, but what should I be looking for in terms of background/training/etc? I know a lot of people advertise themselves as qualified ‘nutritionists’ when they aren’t.

    Thanks Kath!

Yikes, it’s so hard to concentrate when major hunger pains strike. Glad you were able to still enjoy the work. I guess it’s all a part of figuring out this new schedule and working around it to fit your needs.

Sounds like a great “hot” dinner to warm you right up! And that was so sweet of Matt to leave you the treat. What a sweetheart! šŸ™‚

Hope you get a good night’s rest!

Hunger makes me extremely irritable, good job on toughing it out. I’ve been to Moe’s one time when in Atlanta; the burrito was huuuuuuuge but sooo good! Now I want one and there’s no Moe’s for hundreds of miles lol.

When I’m that hungry, I can’t concentrate on anything else. The only thing that makes it worse is eating a bunch of small snacks when what I really need is a hot meal!

Hi Kath-I was wondering have you and the brewmeister tried any “beer floats”? There is an ice cream store in our area that has them on the menu for the summer (made with a stout). I immediately thought of you. Have a good day.

Oh, Moe’s is the best! Very veggie friendly! Chipotle too, if you have those. And I’ve started stocking Odwalla bars in my drafting table for random hunger pangs.

And I just love your blog. šŸ™‚ I photograph my food too, along with a few foodie friends. Most folks think we’re weird, but we don’t care. lol! Thanks!

Moe’s in awesome! I love how you can customize so much. I usually get the salad option and chips. The salsa is so gooooooood too! I haven’t been since last summer as we don’t eat out often, but when we do have to eat out, I always try to suggest Moe’s!! Interesting fact: A high school/college friend of mine actually did all of the nutritional analysis for Moe’s!!!!!!! Cool, huh? šŸ™‚ She also did work for Carvel! She lives in NC too. šŸ™‚

    Elizabeth ,
You can search for RDs through EatRight.org. I would maybe call a few and ask them what they specialize in. Ask what their food philosophies are.Personality is probably most important!

    cindy ,
    No, but they sound delish!

Ohhh hohoho Moe’s. We used to have them all over here in Mississippi but then all of them suddenly closed! So sad, because that was definitely our favorite place. You could get a Rubrick and split it with two or three people! Everytime I’m in Atlanta or a place remotely close to one, we always go.

Moe’s is a great place to get something healthy when you’re out & about! I usually get a salad w/ black beans, guac & veggies. Their tofu is also very good. Maybe someday they’ll carry WW tortillas, that would be fab. We also have a similar, smaller chain called Willi’s here in Atlanta that is also very good & veggie-friendly.
