Fill Those Muscles

With the sweet, sweet glycogen 🙂

IMG_6835 (640x427)

I slept like a log from 10:26 to 7 this morning. Felt nice! I was having crazy dreams when I woke up about being surrounded by kids in a school cafeteria!

Came down to make up a delicious bowl of oatmeal to digest before my big double-digit run today!

IMG_6859 (640x427)

This one was quite the winner!!! Best bowl I’ve had all week.

IMG_6842 (640x427)

The Mix

  • 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Apple Cinnamon Hot Cereal (You can’t really taste the apples, but the cinnamon adds a really nice aroma and the texture is awesome, esp. when mixed with rolled oats)
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 giant ripe banana
  • 1 chopped giant date
  • Pinch salt

Toppings:

  • Hemp plus granola
  • Crofter’s Superfruit spread (the last of my Yum Yum jar – can’t wait to open the next one!)
  • Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter (LOVE this, as you know, but it is quite thick and doesn’t melt in hot oats at all. That’s my only con)

I didn’t add any pumpkin or protein or anything because I wanted this to be mostly carb-heavy for easier digestion and optimal glycogen filling. Going to work on my hydration status right now!

Other coffees just don’t bloom like Fresh Market’s! This was Grog and Peet’s Decaf.

Emily and I are meeting at 11:00 for TEN MILES!!! AHHH! But it’s only an hour and a half of running. No big deal!

I’m going to her house for a shower and lunch because our house is having an OPEN HOUSE today!

Then I’m getting my HAIR CUT!!! So excited about that. It’s been like…2 years since I’ve been to a real nice salon for a hair cut.

I’ll be back with lunch late this afternoon!

Loved my free sample of the white cheery chocolate (not so healthy) and then bought a couple of other loaves that are a bit healthier to try. Thanks for introducing me to it — I don’t think I would have found it otherwise!

Have a great 10 mile run!! 😀 Oatmeal is a winner for pre-run fuel, in my opinion! 😀 Usually I’ll bulk it up with pumpkin if I’m going long, since running slower doesn’t usually give me cramps, but it does prevent me from feeling *starving* in the middle of my run. 😉

Great to hear about your ten-miler. Have you followed any kind of mileage plan with your running, or just go with the flow? I’m working towards a 5K for this spring, but have never been much of a runner until last summer. I want to be able to run the miles without injury, and would love to work up to a 10K at some point.

Really enjoying your blog. Great energy in your work and writing!

I am following a plan that Sarah (Shu Box) made for me based on one of the half marathon training plans. I’m following it loosely. Not focusing too much on speedwork and making adjustments when my schedule conflicts, but I’m following the mileage increases at the same rate to try to prevent injury
