Feels Like Home

Yes yes yes!

IMG_1154

IMG_1149

Non-traditional KERF breakfast – half of the egg bagel we brought home yesterday topped with mashed banana, TJ’s Sunflower butter and TJs pumpkin butter

IMG_1143

Ehhhhhh bagels just aren’t my thing. Or at least this brand isn’t. After the 30 minute slow line, leaving the lox off of yesterday’s lunch bagel and this crumbly, non-chewy bagel, I don’t understand what the hype was over Bagel Bin. Never again! Perhaps I need to pay a visit to Bodo’s here in Cville again – their bagels are much better!

IMG_1145

Now coffee this morning was done juuuust right. Strong + dark!

IMG_1148

Breakfast with a little Glee!! GLEE IS BACK! I have thought that all of this season’s episodes are lame, but this week’s was great. Good old covers and mashups.

IMG_1151

Last night while climbing into the comforts of my cozy bed I realized I left my very favorite eye mask in the hotel bed!!! Nooooooooooo! My mom got me this Bucky brand for Christmas last year and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super lightweight, a  velcro strap in the back so you can adjust it perfectly to your head (and no slipping!) and raised eye puffs so your eyes aren’t bothered.

I SWEAR to you all that light at night affects you more than you realize. Especially when the moon is full! I find if I don’t have a mask even my alarm clock light will wake me up. It took wearing an eyemaks on several flights to realize how much blackout helps with sleep quality. I urge you to get one of these and try it! I PROMISE you will sleep better.

I actually am not a huge bagel fan either (thought I really like Panera asiago cheese), because I don’t love bread. I usually get the weirdest looks… but bread just isn’t my thing.

    What a fiery looking tree!

I’m betting that you don’t have bagles like we do. Come up north and go to a real deli to see what all the hype is about. Thick chewy crust an doughy insides. (That said, i’ll still take oatmeal more times than not).

I always feel funny sleeping with a mask…it slides around and I just can’t get comfortable with one.

Call the hotel! See if they can get your mask to you.

I have that very same mask and my husband has a solid brown one just like it! They are wonderful – so much better than the regular ones that put pressure on your eyes. I started using a sleep mask in college when I shared a tiny box of a dorm room with my roomate – it made it easy to fall asleep if she still needed the light on. I’ve been through several different kinds, and this one is by far my favorite.

I saw those eye masks at Whole Foods last week and considered getting one. I really struggle with even the smallest amount of light. Last night, we were running the humidifier which has a tiny on light and I kept tossing and turning because the light was keeping me up. Finally, I turned the darn thing off and was able to get some sleep. Maybe an eye mask is a good solution for the best of both worlds.

Have you tried Hemp Bagels? 20 grams of protein per serving (although, eating just 1/2 and therefore 10 grams is a more reasonable portion size for breakfast). They are yummy plus nutrient rich. I haven’t tried a hemp bagel with anything sweet…smooshing some avocado and topping that with tomato is how I’ll usually have it, but I should imagine a nut butter and banana would be good too.

There has been much household debate about coffee strength 🙂

I do a HEAPING half cup for 7 cups of water per the coffee pot’s lines. So that’s like 10-11 tbsp or about, 1.5 tbsp per coffee cup.

Matt likes to weigh it and determined he likes it at 8 grams per cup of water per the coffee cup line, which he says is 1.5 tbsp per coffee cup.

So I guess we agree 🙂

(I am specifically coffee cup as 5oz vs. an 8 oz measuring cup)

I used to be up at 6am every day and thought it was just because my body hated me. Turns out, even the tiniest bit of light affects my sleep. Now I sleep like a ROCK. I too tested it out on the flight to San Francisco and I slept like a baby on a plane full of strangers. Probably one of the top 5 best buys EVER for me.
