Ever After

IMG_3648Blog-2

I swear, I had the equivalent of 1.5 drinks last night. Maybe 4-5 small 2-3 ounce pours. And I can totally feel it. I am so sensitive! Slightly headachey, dehydrated, systems off. I love enjoying a few drinks so much – not for the buzz, but because I really enjoy the taste, but sometimes I wonder if I should just give it up! Feeling badly is never, ever worth it.

Maybe it was the 2 sips of pisco!!!

IMG_3655Blog

Smoothies seem to be the best hangover cure.

Especially when packed with fruit and clusters!

IMG_3663Blog-2

The Mix
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1/3 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup frozen berries
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Cville Cluster Granola
  • Coconut

HOT coffee + choffy! Well I’ll be!

IMG_3653Blog

IMG_3646Blog

Today is a logistics nightmare. I’m trying to figure out how to get myself from home to the bakery without a bike and with 2 meals (one being gazpacho) and showering gear + clothes for day + night. I’m thinking I need to walk with a backpack. Or just drive. But then my bike is still stuck at the bakery! Our problems would just be solved if we lived just a 2 miles closer!!

Going to noontime Pump today since I’m speaking to a weight loss group tomorrow and will miss my usual glass. And we have to ship out the massive OpenSky order (the first 300 bags of it) and we are providing bread for a fun rooftop event tonight at Second Street Gallery!

      Ditto about the movie ;

On another note – the smoothie color is so beautiful! And the coffee in the first shot – it kind of looks blue to me too!

Busy day…hmm…maybe don’t take Gazpacho today to avoid spillage?!

The older I get (32!), the more I feel like that, too. I really LOVE red wine, but maybe it doesn’t love me. I think about that all the time. It’s not really worth how crappy I fell after 2 glasses of wine. Not fair.

On a brighter note, your smoothie looks refreshing!

I gave up drinking for the exact reasons you mentioned. I just couldn’t handle feeling bad! Even a half glass of wine started to make me feel yucky the next day. I know women who can down an entire bottle of wine and wake up feeling like a million bucks, but I’m just not one of them.

I am the same way. I had one glass of white wine last night and ended up with a horrible headache hours later. I can’t drink red wine for that same reason so I hope white isn’t affecting me now, too.

Good luck today with your “nightmare”. I’m sure you’ll work it out. 🙂

I, too, love the color of your smoothie. It looks so refreshing and sounds like the perfect cure after a night of drinking.

Haha I am one of those women who can drink the entire bottle without much effect…But even so, sometimes I don’t want to drink just because its unhealthy & expensive. At those times I pull a “Kath” as I say to my boyfriend and just drink out of tiny glass. Sometimes the tradition of pouring a cocktail or being able to participate in a group that is enjoying a cocktail outweighs the calories

I also find that the older I get, the more alcohol affects me the morning after. I love love red wine, but it makes me feel worse than white, so I try to stick with white (sigh). The key for me, even if it is only a couple glasses, is to drink a lot of water before bed. If I have more than a couple, I take advil at night. I try not to do this too often. I also try to avoid drinking on an empty stomach!

I’m with you on the alcohol sensitivity. I do okay with a small pour of wine but anything over that and I’m definitely feeling it. I’ve just never been a good (or a big) drinker…though speaking of drinking, I keeping seeing the tweets from your sister about the amazing cocktails she’s having on her trip and I gotta say, I think it’d be worth feeling sick for some of them – they sound so good!

Thankfully, if I keep it to that much, I feel okay in the am, but anymore than that & I’m miserable. Hey girl! You should try putting some spinach and/or kale into your smoothies. Well, come to think of it, I think you do already do that sometimes. I find that dark greens really help the dehydrated/slightly hungover feeling. Particularly if you use spinach, you will not even really taste it – I pack my blender with baby spinach and can barely taste it. Kale or collards, on the other hand, you will taste a bit more, so you want to be more judicious. Just a thought…

Kath – didn’t your college “classes” teach you that the recipe for a hangover = wine + beer + liquor?! 😉 I almost always stick to one – usually wine, sometimes beer, hardly ever liquor. It seems like you usually do that too, so you are probably just feeling the effects of mixing the 3 last night. The best hangover cure is OJ (before bed is best)! All that Vitamin C does wonders! Probably why your berry smoothies work best for you 🙂

I hear ya, Kath. I realized right after college that I can’t handle drinking at all. I swear it has something to do with my size (I’m just under 5’2. Where’s all the wine supposed to go?!). I definitely did my fair share of drinking in college, but I hated feeling like crap for 48 hours after. Now I can enjoy a glass of wine, but that’s my limit before I fall into hangover territory. No drink is worth feeling that awful!

I too am super sensitive to alcohol. 🙁 I haven’t decided to cut it out completely but I have cut back significantly (not that I ever consumed *that much in the first place).
The color of that smoothie is amazing – I hope it helps the hangover! 🙂

I can’t stand hangovers, either. The funny thing with me is I often feel better after a night of whiskey-drinking than if I just have one glass of wine with dinner! My stomach is very all-or-nothing.

As for preventing hangovers, maybe you need to replenish electrolytes before bed, so as someone suggested, maybe some coconut water or lemon juice in water before bed?

Your smoothie looks yummy – and I love that it matches the placemat (like others have said).

I ordered from your OpenSky yesterday, and CANNOT wait to receive the product!! Sounds/looks so yummy! Wish I had a GH close to me, but there isn’t one in Dallas.

    Take care!

i’m sensitive to alcohol just like you. i gave it up about 2 years ago, and have never looked back. social situations can be awkward at times (especially living in a ridiculously alcohol inundated city–new orleans), but i just let people know i do what works for me & not anyone else!!

Is 4-5 2 or 3 oz. pours really equivalent to 1.5 drinks?

I typically consider a serving of wine to be about 4-5 oz. Therefore, 8 oz. (or 4 2 oz. pours) or 15 oz. (or 5 3 oz. pours) of wine would be approximately and respectively 2 servings or 3 servings. I’m sure you’re better at the math than I am (RD and all!), but maybe you had more than you thought?

Big fan of the pisco sour. But yes. It does pack a wallop the next day. The purer the pisco the better, but it’s typically not a finely distilled liquor.

Personally, I can never mix liquor with anything else – that’s the recipe for a terrible hangover for me.

“I am so sensitive! Slightly headachey, dehydrated, systems off.”

    and

“Feeling badly is never, ever worth it.”

    I used to drink.like.a.fish

But in the past 5 yrs have had the combined total of maybe 5 drinks? maybe? Life just changed after I had my daughter and I dont miss it, I feel badly when I do, and so I just…don’t. I miss the memories and the camaraderie but I am so sensitive, too, Kath!

I love the purple. The pictures. So beautiful!!

I recently tried Goody’s Extra Strength Headache Powder. It works miracles for hangovers. In fact, after I took it I went on a 10 mile bike ride and felt amazing! I poured two pouches onto a spoon and took it with water. It does taste a little bit chalky but it has great results!

I was wondering – I don’t drink much, but even if I have a small glass of wine or a vodka/tonic in the evening – the next morning my eyes/face are puffy and I feel off…I know dehydration would lead to puffiness – but for that small of an amount?!! And I always drink water with it too…is allergies to that possible? I never had a problem with liquor before though…
