Eb + Flow Kinda Day

Wheeee! Hope you all had a nice Saturday.

After lunch the clouds covered over and the fog returned. I walked about 26 minutes to the beach access where Larbs + Matt were to discover they were freezing cold, so we hopped on the golf cart to return to the Inn and read indoors curled up on the sofas 🙂

After an hour of reading, Matt, the husband Matt and I decided it was now or never for our run. I was totally not in the mood, but I also wasn’t about to pass up on a Bald Head run with the boys. 10 minutes later I was sprinting along the beach road and the sun came back out! We ran about 4 miles – a swift 4 miles guy-style. Once back I decided to do 20 minutes of yoga for some stretching. Perfecto!

Then I took my time showering and getting dressed. I feel so often I’m in a rush to shower and do myself up so I decided since I had the time I’d take it.

I joined the group by the water for cocktail hour a bit later before we all headed out to dinner to one of Bald Head’s few restaurants: Eb + Flow’s Steam Bar.

We played some more group games over cocktails – Outburst + Mafia. And we munch on a selection of snacks. Have I mentioned before how much my family likes cocktail hour 😎

Homemade guacamole + chips. I had about 5 of those…

And more of those damned candied mixed nuts that are SO GOOD!! I had  2-3 small handfuls total.

DSC07594

And cheese and cheese biscuits (I had 2 cheese + crackers)

DSC07590

I wasn’t craving a drink, so I made a mocktail of diet tonic and lime/cherry to sip

DSC07595

Because I wanted to 100% enjoy a beer at dinner –

Some kind of wheat beer –

Dinner was a Fried Food Feast!!! I think everyone ordered something fried – and it was the best calabash seafood I’ve had in years.

DSC07604

I ordered a House Salad – with Fried Oysters!!

DSC07606

The salad part was meh, but the oysters were amazing! I ate all but 1 and just a tiny bit of the dressing…

DSC07605

We all left the restaurant STUFFED. We walked there and back and I think everyone was complaining about their pants being tight 😳

But we weren’t too stuffed for ice cream sundaes!!

DSC07609

We watched the movie Get Smart, which I thought was really good when they weren’t in an action scene (I <3 Steve Carell and thought it was Anne Hathaway’s best movie). My sundae had vaniller ice cream, pineapple + strawberry topping, whipped cream, a crumbled chocolate thing and 2 cherries. I haven’t had a sundae in AGES and the beach seemed like the perfect occasion to have one.

I was on the border of my Christmas goal of feeling great today, but I think I was able to stay on the good side. But I will say as much as I’m enjoying letting loose a bit, I’m already really excited about getting back into my healthy eating routine next week. It just takes a few days over overindulgence to crave that fresh feeling of healthy meals.

I am looking forward to sleepin’ in tomorrow, some more running and hopefully some sunshine.

Sometimes I think it’s good to shock the system and then get back to the usual routine. Fried oysters and ice-cream would definitely be the perfect way to shake things up a bit. Yum 🙂

Your vacation pics look like so much fun! I have a similar cardigan like the one your are wearing in the pic, it’s turquoise and Grey.

Couldn’t agree with you more about how a few days of indulging in foods I don’t usually eat has me craving my healthier routines.

Looks like you all are having a great time! I have also overindulged ALOT and feel kinda gross. Glad you were ablw to let loose as well! Can’t wait to se what kind of healthy concoctions you come up with for next week:) After a week of overindulgence(sp?)…do you start counting calories again….or simply really just focus on eating healthy? I could use some tips. Thanks!

I’ve been on an oatmeal detox lately. It’s so good to be eating healthier, even if it was just a couple sugar cookies.

Great outlook you’ve got regarding vacations!

I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not but I got the ProBars I won in your contest the other day. Thanks again for holding the draw – I can’t wait to try them out!

    Kath,

I feel the same way about indulging a bit. Its nice, but it doesn’t take long before I begin to miss my “normal” foods. Ha.

    HEY KATH,

Looks like you’re having an amazing vacay!
Anyway, I was wondering if you had any experience wot Bikram Yoga???
I am considering taking a couple of classes because I really want to tone up, but also I am having trouble finding an exercise I enjoy and can stick to. I am really desperate to find my exercise match so if you have any experience PLEASE share!!! (Obviously i understand your with your family so if you would like to respond next week when your back home that’s okey-dokey 😉 ).

    kwaze ,
My method of cut back after a vacation is to skip alcohol and dessert and limit snacks to when I really need them. I also try to make my meals lighter and healthier and save more extravagant experiments for other weeks.

    Kristin ,
I can’t think any off the top of my head – can you ask me again when I have time to come up with a list? Say next week?

    Jen,
I’ve never tried Bikram, but I’d love to someday. The local studies in Charlotte are quite expensive so I haven’t found the justification to go yet since I’ve been enjoying YogaDownload.com so much.

I totally understand what you mean about letting loose and yet looking forward to getting back on track. I will be thrilled next week to get out of the haBit of having dark chocolate/M &M’s EVERY DAY.

Gosh, I know you don’t do it on purpose but your idea of splurges are NOTHING compared to me. Am I the only one who feels this way? Or am I really a cow that had far more sweets and junk this holiday season? Hmmm….
