Dish It To Me

There and back again from dinner 🙂

I got some of my writing done this afternoon and snacked on some trail mix/dried fruit mix from Costco around 4:30 to tide me to an early dinner at 6. I added a few chocolate chips after I took the photo too!

IMG_6428 (1024x768)

We went uptown for dinner to meet Annie, who is starting the nutrition program at Winthrop! We met her at Dish, a “pseudo soul food” restaurant that you’d think would be vegetarian until you saw “chicken” on the menu.

IMG_6436 (1024x768)

Annie was great – a Bostonian who went to college in upstate NY and now works at Davidson and is starting at Winthrop soon. We have crossed many paths!

Matt and I started with beers. I wasn’t planning on drinking, but when I saw Shock Top on draught I had to get one. I drank half and gave the rest to him.

IMG_6429 (1024x768)

For dinner I got the veggie plate where you get to choose between all these different sides…(although our prices were slightly higher than these online ones!!)

Vegetable Plate • • • 3 vegetables • $5.95 • • • 4 vegetables • $6.95

Comes with a biscuit and deviled egg

Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Macaroni & Cheese
Collard Greens
Green Beans
Yellow Rice
Black Beans
Side Salad
Grits

I had black beans (which were delish! I ate about 2/3 of these)

IMG_6431 (1024x768)

Collards, which were slightly sweet and so greeny in a good way

IMG_6434 (1024x768)

My deviled egg (shared half with Matt, who didn’t get one)

IMG_6435 (1024x768)

The biscuit (also shared half with Matt)

IMG_6433 (1024x768)

And the side salad

IMG_6430 (1024x768)

It definitely tasted home cooked and fresh! You can see in the background that Matt got a pimento cheese grilled sandwich, of which I had a delicious gooey bite.

IMG_6432 (1024x768)

We listened to the Pirates of the Caribbean on the way home on the new iPod. This phone gets cooler by the minute!!!

IMG_6438 (1024x768)

And I had an Adora for dessert upon arriving home –

We’re off to finish Out Of Africa. I need a shoulder massage – I think I have a caffeine headache 🙁 I had 2 cups of tea around 2pm to try to fix it, but I’m still aching.

Going to bed early tonight because Matt isn’t working until 7 and we’re going to workout together early.

Nite!

I wish more restaurants let you order “all sides”! That looks good.

Hey Kath, I just saw your breakfast post (I’m a bit behind) and I love the idea of oats in a smoothie. One of my absolute favorite breakfasts EVER is this recipe:

    http://chocolatecoveredkatie.wordpress.com/2007/09/05/the-most-important-meal-of-the-day/

It’s kind of similar to yours except she calls for cooked oats. It’s so amazingly good. I love the fact that by blending, you get peanut butter and banana in every bite!

Since I love that recipe so much, I thought I’d try yours. Do you blend the raw oats up first or do you just mix them in with all the other ingredients? I only have a magic bullet, not a vitamix. Do you think this recipe would still work for me?

    Thanks Kath!

I’ve never had collard greens before but I assume they are like kale?

Chris would be digging the Pirates soundtrack on the iPhone!

Hope Matt got rid of those critters for you!

I’m just curious, when you and Matt work out together does he do the stairs and elliptical too, or go off and do his own thing?

    Meg ,
Just blend away. I don’t have a Vitamix either – just a Cuisinart blender. Wish I had a Magic Bullet!

    Sally ,
Changing the design of a blog is tricky. Try Google searching for it or checking the WordPress forums, which are very helpful.

    Allyson ,
    U of Rochester?

    LK- Healthy Delcious,
Thanks 🙂 We are always on the hunt for the best lighting!

    Sarah (lovINmytummy),
Collards are very similar in taste to kale, but they have a different texture. They are thicker and smoother – but in a good way 🙂 I think they are slightly sweet like kale and spinach verses mustard, chard and turnip greens, which are slightly bitter.

    Stacey ,
He does his own thing, but sometimes we are on the same type of machine at the same time. He likes to do circuits of 10 minutes on each kind, whereas I like 30-40 minutes on one.

    Meredith ,
I rarely get strange looks because I am pretty discreet, but if I ever do, I just smile and say “I have a food blog” and they smile back with a knowingly “Ohhh.”
