Different Strokes For Different Folks

It’s hot out. I’ve done a lot of walking in the sun lately.

2012-06-23 11.54.24

So I decided I needed to get my butt to the pool this morning! I’m trying to swim once a week, but if you read this post, you’d know that I struggle to find the motivation to pack up all my gear and actually go to the pool. Luckily my gym is right by the City Market and so it made for a convenient stop by on the way there and back – and just enough time to get super sweaty and ready for the cold water!

2012-06-23 09.33.19

My swim was good. As a compromise/reward for going, I decided I only have to do 26 minutes of laps instead of a longer 45 minutes. You’d think once I was there I should put in more time, but it’s part of the deal. I actually swam for 28 minutes straight today and mixed up my strokes. Not surprisingly, doing different strokes made the time go by so much faster.

ALSO – I HAD THE POOL TO MYSELF!! I absolutely hate sharing lanes and when I arrived there was not a soul in there other than the lifeguard. I might have to make this Saturday morning swim thing a (10-weeks-to-go) habit.

I showered there and went back to the market to say hello to Matt and pick up our weekly produce. I took him a No Bull Burger for lunch!

2012-06-23 10.59.36

And picked up all of this great loot – love summer veg! And it was so great not to have to think about greens because we have them already growing here. Hopefully sooner rather than later we will also have okra and tomatoes!

IMG_0354

Hardest workout of the day: walking home with all that on my arm, in the sun, PLUS beef, chicken and No Bulls on my back!

2012-06-23 11.54.09

I snacked on a few samples at the market and then had lunch at 12:30.

IMG_0370

Fressssssssssssh!

IMG_0377

Gobbled down a goblet of blackberries – huge and plump!

Blackberries

And ate some millet salad – topped with greek yogurt and almonds! Greek on greek Winking smile

IMG_0378-2

It was nice to have a chilled lunch waiting

IMG_0381-2

Water with lemonade

Somehow I am wiped out from my morning and am resisting a nap. Although that is on my baby to-do list…..so perhaps it is necessary…

Haha – I used to walk to the grocery store all the time when I lived in the city and it’s so true what a workout lugging all the stuff back home is. People wouldn’t believe me when I’d say how tiring it was!

I say give into that nap…sometimes it ends up being more productive 🙂

That salad really does look good! Nothing makes me happier than picking up fresh produce in the market, love a bit of wandering and picking up the new treats on offer! Well done on the swim! 🙂

Love the farmers market day here. Perfect food – peaches, blackberries, corn, green beans, brocoli, and cucumbers. And a couple of cinnamon twists and a mini loaf of blueberry raspberry yogurt bread with a lemon glaze. What a wonderful haul.

I have the same problem when I read on my mobile. The mobile webpage loads with a boarder of photos running down both sides. You might want to check it out from an iPhone.

I agree that it’s hard to go swimming. I keep thinking that I will, but I need to buy goggles, and I hate being wet afterwards (my gym is way too gross to shower in…) and sharing lanes gives me anxiety! Ahhh all too much. haha

I’m so excited for my tomatoes too. There’s nothing like a freshly picked tomato from the garden! They’re so tasty that I just like to eat them plain with a bit of salt. 😀

I usually don’t nap, it’s the only time I get kid-free to do things in the peace and quiet, but when I’m pregnant I ALWAYS NAP. I don’t think I could make it through the day without one! I really need to get to the farmers market next week, we have a decent one but it’s quite a drive so it makes it harder to get there, boo…wish the closer one wasn’t so crappy! Makes me want to move to a larger town!

I love raspberries (my fav fruit, along with nectarines), but I just can’t eat blackberries… I’ve tried many times, but they’re just too firm. Too bad because they always look delicious!

These were so juicy they were almost mushy! Try some freshly picked ones sometime? The bigger the better. But I do know what you mean about being firm – and sour – if they’re underripe

So true re. those delicate blackberries…amazing when just picked and perfectly ripe, but more often than not if you pick them up at the grocery store, the taste and texture is just a bit ‘off” and they are just plain icky!

I LOVE that close-up shot of those glorious berries in the wine glass…now, those are some beauties! Nothing signals the sweet spot of summer like blackberries.

(I can’t wait to dig into my own stash from yesterday’s haul; ate too many peaches, and have fruit overload stomach ache this morning as a result!)

I feel you! Seoul has been FRYING us over here in S. Korea, we are actually counting down to monsoon season so that it’ll at least wet us down a bit and cool us off, perhaps??! But I also loved your berries in the wine glass, your plethora of fresh fruits and veggies, and that adorable baby BUMP! Have a great week!
