Day Got Better!!

  • First, I finished my Microbiology.
  • Then I took a 20 minute nap and felt much better.
  • Then I biked to the gym and did the Stairmaster with a magazine and felt SOOOO much better.
  • Then I came home to find out that our Team KERF Race For The Cure goal has been MET!!!!!!!!!
  • Then I had a huge filling salad that kept me full all night.
  • Then Micro Lab went really well.
  • Then I had a PB LaraBar.
  • Then I came home to a HUGE PACKAGE!!!!!!!!

So backing up….

Team KERF

I was absolutely shocked to find the Team KERF Race for the Cure goal MET today!!!!

Thank you to Suzanne S. and Wendy F., who pushed the amount above the goal!

Thank you to everyone who has donated – it means so much to me. Of course let’s not stop at goal – the more we raise, the better the chances of helping fight cancer.

Big Green Bowl

I decided I eat dinner earlier (4:30) instead of packing something to eat up at the campus like I normally do since it was raining and not the best day for a picnic. Plus, I was really hungry at 4:30 for a snack so it was a good time for dinner.

I made a great salad with the leftover pesto pasta salad I made as a mystery recipe the other night.

  • Huge base of romaine + spinach
  • A carrot
  • 1/4 a cucumber
  • Some green bell pepper
  • Balsamic vinegar on the greens
  • ~2 cups leftover pasta salad with some veggies in it
  • A sprinkling of goat cheese
  • About a tbsp of sunflower seeds

Micro

THIS is what grew off my fingertips last week!!! EWWWWW!!!

DSC03201

I was quite proud 😉

Lab went well. I love not having to deal with chemicals. I HATE chemicals. Microbes, although they freak me out, are much cooler.

Delicious Snack

I always debate between bar + volume. Would I rather wait and have a big bowl of cereal and milk or yogurt and fruit, or have a bar? Whenever I have cereal I am always glad, but whenever I have a bar I am always glad!! It’s a grass-is-greener scenario. But tonight, PB LaraBar it was 🙂 Yup, I’m walking down the stairs of the science building as I took this.

An Angel In Los Angeles!

I have a guardian angel in L.A. – Jimmi sent me a whole box of PB LaraBars and Blueberry Granola Planks!!! It was like opening a briefcase with a million dollars inside. I wanted to eat 5 just to celebrate!!! He also included 3 new bars to try – I’ve never had the LB Cashew Cookie. Thanks Jimmi

 this !

Yay for Team KERF and your box of goodies! That’s awesome. 🙂

Random question for you… what kind of bag do you use for school? I’m using my old backpack from college but I feel like I want to start using something new for graduate school and need some ideas. Thanks!

    Amy ,
I have a Jansport Messenger bag, which I love because it has TONS of pockets, fits my computer, and is easy to access from the side (unlike a backpack). But what I REALLY want, and what I would tell you to get, is a Patagonia Half Mass bag. They have even more pockets and are much better built than the one I have. I just played with one in the Patagonia store in Boston! I want the purplish one, but the husband says “You have a perfectly good bag and don’t need a new one!” I threatened to ruin mine somehow, but I suppose he’s right to not spend the money 🙁

Kath meets the magazine world! I just opened up the October issue of Shape and found that my blog and magazine reading worlds had converged. This is my first posting, but I admit to being a longtime fan of the blog and knew I had to extend congratulations! I hope to see more KERF in more media soon!

Ooh, an 18 Rabbits bar! Those things are my favorite! They’re a local company for me (SF) and so good – you can just taste the high quality ingredients. If you like that one, you have to try the Cheeky Chocolate Cherry and their Veritas Granola – it’s amazing!

kath, it seriously makes my morning to wake up to your positiviity. i can tell you really appreciate both the big AND small things in life and are a model (to me) of how to go through it with true appreciation of each day.

i am excited to see you in shape, and i am SUPER excited about team KERF meeting the goal!

also: while i hated organic, i LOVED micro – all the fancy bacteria names, and it appealed to the part of me that likes categorization and organization.

    finally, pb larabars rock.

I second the Patagonia Half mass Bag. I now have collected three over the years, and I swear by them. I’m a bit of a Patagonia fiend, and I totally love their commitment to customer service- they’ll replace ANYTHING, no questions asked, no receipts…love it!

i totally agree with you on the chemicals. i was always a little bit terrified in all my chem labs. i think that started from chemistry in high school when my class was a complete disaster and we had SO MANY accidents. at least the microbes from your finger tips aren’t lethal like a big spill of HCl or something 😉

Cashew Cookie larabar is awesome. Supposedly, Costco sells this mixture box of cashew cookie, cherry pie, and the chocolate one for a great price. My sister was telling me about it and I keep meaning to get one!

    Yum-soup and salad!
Funny-I had the same at a gourmet grocerystore today.Soup was spicy garbanzo and black bean(delish and indian spiced-mmm!)and the salad (which they serve in a cardboard chinese style takeout box-fun to eat out of!) tasted better because this time I didn’t ask for a “bought dressing”.Instead I had them put a little lemon jucie and a little balsmic vinegar mixed in(and much tastier/fresher with the lemon instead of olive oil!) with
    -crisp romaine lettuce
    -celery
    -red onion
    -tomato
    -cucumber
    -chick peas
    -kidney beans
    -dried cranberries for sweetness
-and so tasty with sunflower seeds!!mmm!

So today was soup/salad buying day all around!
AND I tried HOT YOGA(not Bikram)for the first time. They hear room to 37 degrees celsius and you drip sweat the whole time-need to tke 2 towels on top of yoga mat and a litre of water.Kath you MUST try this-you feel so cleansed/detoxed/relaxed after all that sweat…..let us know if you try it.This type was called Moshka Yoga!
I am dying to know what you think of hot yoga!!!Anyone else a fan(I have to admit I felt a little dizzy a few times and have never sweat that much my whole life!
