Dancing Mind [And Body And Jaw]

If there’s a hot power vinyasa studio in the town I’m visiting, I’ll do everything possible to go! Sadly I didn’t make it to Charm City Yoga in Towson, but since I had all Sunday to travel to Fairfax, I made a point to come up early and try out Dancing Mind Yoga! It’s a Baptiste-affiliated studio here and has all the components of a great practice: heat + power + flow.

IMG_1009

The class was just what I was looking for. It was hard, it left me shaking, and most importantly: drenched in sweat. Some of my friends have said that I never sweat – that’s sort of true – I DO sweat, but it takes a lot to get me going. I need the heat to get the most out of my practice. ‘Heat from within’ doesn’t always work with me.

Jessie of the Messie Kitchen offered to try out hot yoga for the first time with me. [She had only done some cold yoga classes and she is now hooked!!]

IMG_1006

She also baked some Amish Friendship Bread and brought me a loaf!! Can’t wait to try some of this tomorrow

Smile this !

IMG_5900

After yoga I came home starving. I downed my Hungry Bar before yoga – my lunch was not very filling! And even with a snack, I was more than hangry for dinner.

Luckily I travel with dates – they worked perfectly to ward off a hunger crash so I could shower and quickly get over to dinner.

IMG_5898

All future KERF meetups are going to be at Whole Foods!

IMG_5914

So easy to coordinate. Always an amazing ‘menu.’ Something for everyone! I met about 15 new (and old) friends at the Whole Foods here for dinner. I couldn’t have asked for a better evening! The WF here is GINORMOUS and there were THREE big stations of salad / hot bar.

I loaded up and took these gorgeous photos ; )

IMG_5908

The lighting in the café was awful

IMG_5906

Highlights of this dinner were forbidden rice, chickpeas, some kind of spicy potato and lots and lots of wheatberries!

IMG_5910

Also kombocha to drink (although this flavor was a little bland for me)

IMG_5904

Amazing group of NOVA friends!!

IMG_5916

It’s past my bedtime and I’m beat. Can’t wait to snuggle in my king size bed with my pillows!

Tomorrow AM Home Clean Home goes up!!!! I’ll be back at lunchtime live from the dietetics conference!

“all the components of a great practice: heat + power + flow.” – amen!! My definintion, too.

It takes a lot to get me to sweat, too. I have never been a sweater, even for the 9 mos I lived in Phoenix, I swear, I just am not a sweater. Except..in a properly heated/door closed ashtanga yoga class.

Ashtanga is my love, the mother that gave rise to power, flow, vinyasa, Baptiste, etc and it’s the style I adore. If you do the ashtanga primary series, I guarantee you will sweat. I would love to do yoga with you! 🙂

I like the beginning of Ashtanga, but I don’t like all the floor stuff in the second half, so it never comes close to vinyasa. But it’s second!
