Did you know I used to be a dancer!?

Tap. Jazz. Ballet. Lyrical. A little hip hop. A few years of pointe and gymnastics. My school was not competitive, but it was always fun. I hope when I get to Cville that I can take dance with my new friend Jess who teaches there! I was in the dance ensemble in college too. Dancing is fun 🙂

My sister and I used to make up our own routines! I wish I never gave it up. Is it ever too late to get back into it??? Just kidding…I will just drive my family crazy with my random moves.

I didn’t know you could dance! That’s fantastic. Dancing is something I wished I would have stuck with in spite of the fact that I really don’t have the body type for it. I did a year of ballet and tap when I was 4, and it just didn’t jive with my four-year old self. I shake my head at four-year old Lindsay.

Now, I have the masterful ability to dance awkwardly. I do like to dance though even if I don’t have any “moves”, so to speak of. 🙂

I used to LOVE dance–but I was never extraordinarily good at it, haha. I took ballet, jazz and lyrical classes and did my high school dance team for 2 years before becoming a “drama kid”–and I flexed my jazz hands in the dance chorus of every musical 🙂 Now I just dance in my room (usually to showtunes and *ahem* the Glee soundtrack) because I’m still a theater geek at heart.

I wasn’t in anything competitive, but throughout middle school and high school I was involved in ballet, jazz, Irish dance (soft shoe), square, swing, latin, and ballroom dancing. Attended a lyrical dance class once. Loved it, but parents couldn’t afford the studio. In elementary school I was in gymnastics for a time.

I now do Zumba and am seriously considering getting certfied to teach it! That is, if I can ever come up with a spare $200 for the workshop.

Oiy the old dance pictures. I danced for 15 years before going to college. I started out with tap and jazz and then added ballet, lyrical and modern until high school when I focused more on Irish Step. I took 2 classes during my freshman year of college but by that time, I got got burned out. I used to dance up to 20 hours a week with rehearsals and competitions over the weekend so it was my life growing up and when college came, I wanted to try something different.

Now I stick to yoga and leave professional dancing to some of my friends. It’s fun to watch SO You Think You Can Dance now though because last season was actually the first time I didn’t know/competed against one of the top 3 contestants. Small world!!!

Such cute photos! I used to be a HUGE dancer– ballet mostly until age 12, then I fell in love with modern. I spent four years dancing with a phenomenal pre-professional modern dance company called Balance. Not only did I grow as a dancer (it was HARD WORK to dance six days a week for hours!) but the company’s focus was on helping us girls grow in self-confidence and strength and BALANCE in all things. It was wonderful. Now that I live in NYC, hot vinyasa yoga is the closest thing to modern dance without paying the exorbitant fees– it’s like dancing with your breath!

Part of me loved/loves it, but part of me hates it. The pressure, the stress…it all got to be too much!! Glad you still have a passion for dance! After all that intensity, it has taken me 2 years of University to recover, but my desire to dance is slowly starting to creep back in. Oh, BALLET! I actually still do ballet! I’m going to be taking my grade 8 RAD exam in July. It’s so cool to know that you used to dance? (Do you, still? ;)) I love that picture of you in twelfth grade. So confident! 😀

    Happy Friday! 😀

I love that there are American girls talking about Irish dancing! I also did Irish step dancing in childhood, but I am Irish 😉 I also did set dancing when I was younger, which is a more traditional type of Irish dancing and is common in the west of Ireland, where I’m from.

Now, I only Irish dance at weddings and do swing dancing for fun!

I was a cheerleader (to quote Bring It On: “cheerleaders are dancers gone retarded”) so that counts right?!

Those pictures are GREAT! I have the worst dance abilities ever. I usually have to have a couple strong drinks in me to want to go dancing 😉 I was a cheerleader, though, and I played on the YMCA basketball team. We went undefeated for a year and then the next two we totally BOMBED!

Those pictures made me smile so big! I took 3 years of ballet, two of jazz, and one of gymnastics. I go to a lot of shows and music festivals now and get my dancin out 😉 but I yearned for ballet so I do it by myself with dvd’s for some quality alone time! But even better is that I’m a seamstress at cicci’s dance supplies inc. and I get to sew (moreupdated) lovely outfits like the ones you wore! Its a thrilling job for me 🙂

You must return to dance! I find myself loving dance-inspired workouts, too, especially the Bar Method! Anything done in ballet shoes and counts as exercise is fine by me!

    Fun pics from the past!

I was a competitive clogger for 12+ years, then taught some as an adult.

    Cute outfits!

    I danced from age 2 to 21 and now I teach 🙂
I took tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, pointe and contemporary…

I specialized in tap and went on to being on the canadian national tap team 🙂 I MISS that part of dance!!

I’m with you on all the dance, I even danced on pointe for a year or two, I don’t remember exactly how long. I really loved it, I had personal reasons for stopping but I wish it had never come to that. Hip hop was a late discovery, I wish I had done it all along!

Ahhh, those pictures make me so happy!!! I did tap, jazz, modern from 8-18 and I also did ballet and pointe for a couple of years. I’ve been missing it so much lately and want to find a tap or modern class so bad!!

Did modern dancing as a child for about 7 years, and a bit of ballet. I discovered belly dance about 2.5 years ago and have not looked back since!

Cute pictures. I started ballet at age 4 at a non-competitive studio. I danced for the next 10 years, and was on pointe for the last 2. I had a year off ballet one year to take acrobats (like tumbling) but went back to ballet the next year. (We were only allowed to do one class, NOT tap, because any additional classes and tap shoes were too expensive. =D) I gave it up to play sports in high school but have taken salsa lessons here and there, including while I was living in Spain.
I’m also half Polish and spent many a family wedding polka-ing at the reception… imagine my horror when I found out my husband canNOT polka!!!
