dance party drive

My taste in music is very eclectic. And there are only a few styles I do not like. All I need is a little positive memory association to love a particular song, which often opens up a whole genre.

Although I’ve always had a sense of the coolest songs, I’ve never been much of a pop listener. I couldn’t tell you the names of the songs or the artists. I’d only recognize something playing in Abercrombie.

But sometime between Y2 yoga and Gossip Girl, I have turned into a pop girl! When I get in my car to drive, I find the pop stations and dance out. I seem to know EVERY song that comes on. And while I still can’t tell you the song names or artists, I feel like I’m a little cooler these days : )

I was in charge of the first 1.5 hours from Cville to Warrenton to pay Pablo an after-hours visit. If you haven’t been to Warrenton, you should just to meet Pablo. He’s really one of the nicest guys in the world.

Matt and I taste tested a few breads

And I left with a toffee bar for dessert!

We decided to leave at 5PM tonight to avoid driving through Washington at rush hour, so I packed up dinner to eat in the car.

IMG_4177Blog

I made a salad with a base of wheatberries (which I simmered this morning) and wild canned salmon, plus veggies, capers, and pecans.

We’re settled in Columbia, Maryland to spend a few days with owners Jane and Chris learning some of the ropes of the bizness. I feel like we’re in Montana training all over again! Can’t wait to taste some Irish Soda Bread!

Not sure of my blogability, but I’ll see you soon!

Guess where we’re staying!?!!?

Yay for GH Columbia! This is the one I go to and they are super friendly there. The Irish Soda Bread does sound good but this one sounds better: Reuben Bread! They are only having it on St. Patty’s day though, right? I’m toying with the idea of picking up a loaf, even though I’m still working on the White Chocolate Fruit Swirl and Gouda Stout (this stuff is beyond awesome, get your paws on it if you can) from last week.

For breakfast or brunch on that side of town, Eggspectations is great. They’re open for dinner, too, and serve breakfast around the clock. Sounds like a diner but is nothing like that. The muffins are enormous and the smoothies are great.

Once you are in Baltimore, try to get to Woodberry Kitchen. GREAT local and sustainable menu and great buzz. It is impossible to make a reservation for just a few days out, but the bar opens at 5 and it is a full menu. There are a few hightop tables, too, so you don’t have to be crammed in. If you can’t get to Woodberry Kitchen, Dogwood Cafe also does the local and sustainable thing. The bar is smaller and not the best place to eat but it is also easier to get a reservation there.

    Happy Eatin’!

I’m guessing Homewood Suites. I got into Pop music when I started going to Jazzercise. Now I am always surfing stations to find a song I know, usually on a Top 40 station but sometimes on a country station. It makes me feel so much younger than listening to Classic Rock or the things that I know from college years.

Ohemgee, toffee bar. And your salads always look way delish! You should be ahead of some governmental eat-green movement.

I am like that too with music. When I’m in the car and I hear a song from a few years ago, memories and feelings from that period in my life come flooding in. Warm fuzzy feelings ensue and it normally translates into a positive change of mood for the rest of the day. Music is wonderful/magical like that. 🙂

If you’re looking for some new music to get into (and haven’t already been introduced to it), check out Mumford and Sons and Florence and the Machine. Florence gets me going in the morning (or dancing around the house after a rough day)! Some of songs have a pop flare if you’re into that right now.

I made this salmon salad today, with a few of my own modifications (like adding onion – the horror!), and it was fantastic! Loved the idea of adding wheat berries for another texture, chew, and good carbs.

I have a Blogger blog that is hooked up to my personal website. The actual blog is linked off of the homepage. I would like to know if there’s a widget or something that I can put on my website’s homepage that will show my latest blog posts. Not the whole post, but maybe just the headline and a link to go to my blog..
