Cinematic Supper

Movie night! Juno was great!!! Cute. Cute. Cute. I liked it for so many different reasons. It was very realistic too – great acting.

We literally have about 5 different kinds of lettuce in our fridge thanks to the CSA, an early week grocery store trip and leftovers from a work lunch of the husband’s, so salads were required for dinner. I picked up some Smart Chicken breasts today to grill and have leftovers for the busy week. I’m not a huge meat eater and think a whole breast is a little too much, so we like to butterfly them so you get a thin flat half instead of a short fat one:

Along with the chicken (which we marinated in a homemade BBQ sauce for 2 and a mustard rub for one), we grilled red pepper, cherry tomatoes, carrots, squash and poblano pepper .

Assembled, with a homemade lemon-olive oil-honey-dijon dressing and some sprouts and blueberries on top. Note this is a HUGE serving bowl and the bottom 2/3 is mostly lettuce. It was quite filling.

We made dinner an event in the TV room tonight 🙂

The Grand Finale

My favorite joke when I was little:

Girl walks up to an ice cream stand.

"Hi, What flavors do you have?" she asks.

Ice cream man replies in a scratchy, hoarse voice: "Strawberry, chocolate and vanilla."

"Do you have the flu sir?"

"No, just strawberry, chocolate and vanilla."

Yeah, that used to be HI-larious.

But that’s what I had! A tad bit of each:

I’ve got a TON of studying to do tomorrow so I’m setting the alarm to get started during the early morning hours since I’m always productive then. But not too early!

I thought that movie was great. I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your blog and I just started my own. I have been hooked on a few for the past couple months and decided to try my hand at my own, thanks. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

    Hi Kath,
Thanks for answering my question earlier. I am about the same size as you height-wise. I weigh about 128, so I think I could stand to lose a few more pounds. My body just doesn’t seem to want to lose those last few, but I could be a bit stricter with my diet (cut down on sweets, alcohol, etc.) I’ve never been one to count calories (it seems so tedious and I have a tendency to obsess as is) but perhaps I should give it a try. You said you used calorieking.com, correct? Thanks again for your help!

How cute are you two, with a movie night and delicious salads? I know plenty of couples that just split some transfatty pizza.

I loved Juno – don’t we all know someone with the same biting humor/weird sweetness as ellen page in that movie? and how hilarious was her dad? haha!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Kath& Co.!

Katharine—Try not to compare your weight/height to other people though! I understand that its nice to get an estimate, but that in NO way shows you exactly what you should weigh. We all have different shapes, bone structures, and so on…I’m small boned, weigh less then some friends who are the same size, but they would look awful if they lost any weight. They’re muscular and athletic, and it looks awesome on them…

Just wanted to point that out…its important to be an individual, and sometimes when its “realy hard” to lose those last pounds, it means your body is happy where it is. Besides, its really not worth giving up sweets for, in my opinion…;)

Kath, what proportions do you use in your lemon-honey-olive oil-dijon dressing? I try to make my own but doesn’t taste quite right so I think I am messing up my proportions.

Juno was so cute! We loved it. We had Chile Lime Chicken Burgers from Trader Joes-they are SO good! And I made Crispy Crowns since I hadn’t had them in years. MMM.

Tina O.- I just wanted to post this since I just read about those Chile Lime burgers at TJ’s! Hungry Girl just wrote about them…

“we recently took one of the burgers to a lab, and the results weren’t pretty. It contained almost 60% more calories than the box claimed (175 rather than 110), and it had nearly FOUR times as much fat as the label stated (a total of 11 grams fat!).”

You can read the full story here-

    Just FYI!! 🙂

I always like looking at the pictures of the foods you’ve grilled [and drooling over them!] 😀 I do that with the chicken breast too–it really feels like I’m actually eating more!

    Sammie ,
Your blog looks great! Love the colors and your meals look yummy.

    Katharine ,
Based on experience, if you think you could be a little stricter with your diet, then you probably can. Rather than counting calories (since you mentioned you don’t prefer the method), try keeping the quality of foods top notch for a few weeks. And really ask yourself if you need a snack/extra portion before you have one. Most likely you don’t really need it and are just accustomed to snacking. (Well, that’s what I found). If your weight still doesn’t seem to budge, perhaps see an R.D. for some advice? Or keep a food dairy for a few days and total the calories and see what you average during a day. Good luck!

    Nancy ,
I really just eyeball it, but I’d say it was about 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tsp olive oil, 2 tsp dijon, 1 tsp brown sugar and pinch of S+P. That was for 2 salad portions.

    Kath
