Chip Wrecked

Foodblog (11 of 24)

Hi from the Outer Banks!! Mazen and I are having ourselves a nice little end of summer vacay. For months I’ve been worried about being chased out by hurricanes but we somehow got incredibly lucky with an epic forecast. Sunshine and temps in the 80s all week! We are here with someone I’ve been seeing 😉 I’ve been eating lots of kettle chips, as usual, and as much seafood as one girl can in a week.

Arrival day dinner was boiled shrimp, green beans, corn, and clams.

Quiet coffee morning that didn’t last long until the bean was awake!

Reading some Elin Hilderbrand! My favorite author. This is her newest – Here’s To Us. It’s not my favorite (The Rumor is) but I like it!

Big pre-beach breakfast!

There are tons of kids here and Mazen has made lots of friends. He is so extroverted! It used to take me 6 whole days to get the courage to talk to another girl on the beach, but he just walks up to someone and says “Hi, I’m Mazen. Want to play?!”

Isn’t he handsome?

Wouldn’t be a beach week without crabs!

The bowl of lemon water for cleaning fingers was genius! Melted butter (filled with Old Bay dipping already), and steamed kale on the side.

Foodblog (15 of 24)

M loved playing with the crabs but I could only get him to have one taste.

Foodblog (20 of 24)

I’ve been eating Breyers ice cream for desserts!!

Smoothie breakfast: spinach // blueberries // banana // peanut butter // Vega. I brought the Vitamix for the perfect blend. Cville Cluster Granola from Great Harvest on top!

Foodblog (21 of 24)

We’ve been building castles and splashing in the surf. It’s been too rough to go much beyond the front row of waves, but hopefully it’ll calm down a bit soon!

Tomato and turkey melt for lunch with chips (beach staple!), and a yummy red plum.

This boy loves the beach!

You picked the perfect week! Glad you’re having great weather! (When we went, it was too hot to walk on the sand without sandals!)

Would you be willing to do a post on post-separation dating/how you decided when to introduce Mazen? Obviously your right to keep it all private, but I know Janae’s similar posts were helpful.

Just read that same book….didn’t care for it at all! Just a bunch of folks making really stupid decisions…until the end–not my idea of entertainment. Glad you’re having great beach weather and an awesome time! 🙂

You wear it well, Lady! I am not/never have been a single mom, so I don’t envy you, but let me say you seem to be dealing with it with the utmost dignity and grace! You are an inspiration to many who have found themselves in that situation! You go, Girl!

What great news! So many women give up after a long marriage fails. It’s never too late to find love, or at least a kind partner to pass the time with. You deserve it! What an awesome vaca to rewind and recharge.

Selfie sticks are way too clunky–you should check out PopSockets.com. My husband is the inventor and I’d be happy to send you some cute and stylish samples:)
PS High five to you! So impressed with how graceful you’ve handled such dramatic life changes…I read that first paragraph a few times with a smile for you!

I’ve never been to the Outer Banks but would love to some day. I see that the crab place is in Kill Devil Hills. Is that where you stayed? i.e. is that a good base for vacation or did you stay in a different town/have another fave place to stay?

Fun post! I love vacation eats,. They make me so happy. 🙂

Yes this is a great area. Lots to see and do, pretty beaches, variety of condos and houses. Jockey’s Ridge is here too (the giant sand dune) and the Wright Brothers Memorial.

That Mazen has the most perfect set of baby teeth I’ve ever seen! I bet his adult teeth will grow in the same. No orthodontics costs for you!! 🙂

Looks like y’all are having a great vacation, and I’m so happy to read that you are sharing the time with someone special – you deserve it! Hugs!

Thanks! But actually his dentist said that perfect baby teeth = major crowding of big boy teeth, so we probably have orthodontics in the future!!

I did NOT like Here’s to Us at all. I was so bummed because Elin Hilderbrand is my favorite and I had been looking so forward to this book. I still have a bunch of her older ones to read so I’m going to go back and do that. I loved The Rumor as well.

    The beach looks amazing!!
