Chilly Bizness

Morning! I was surprised to find such a chilly morning because we’re supposed to get up near 80* today! I turned the heat off a few days ago when it was warmer outside than it was inside, so this morning I found myself shivering in bed and came down to 63*!

I made some good progress on my oatmeal report last night, so I just have to wrap that up with a discussion and then glue some colorful Excel graphs on some un-environmentally friendly paper on an un-environmentally friendly giant, expensive posterboard. I tried to convince my professor we should be able to do PowerPoint – that would have made my life MUCH easier, saved some $$ and some trees – but she said we had to do posters so that we could present these at the ADA convention if we wanted. Um, I don’t my experiment is even close to being worthy of the ADA! (Guess that’s my fault though 😉 )

So point of the story is I am |this           close| to being finished with ALL of my projects!

Since I was freezing when I came down at 7:30 this morning I had no choice but to make oats and coffee.

IMG_4997 (1024x768)

But that was still exciting because I had this granola to put on as a topping!

IMG_4993 (1024x768)

The KERF mix included French vanilla granola, dried blackberries + raspberries (LOVE those), roasted cashews and oatbran flakes. I am super happy with my mix. I love the addition of the oatbran flakes – they add a whole ‘nother dimension. (Does anyone else say ‘nother’ as a word there? Is it supposed to be ‘other’!?)

IMG_4994 (1024x768)

On top of a simple whipped banana oat base with some flax, a few extra salted peanuts, and Jif Natural PB (blobbed on top). I am not a big fan of the Jif Natural. I only have it leftover from yesterday’s tasting. It’s super candy-like – just like the original Jif, so if you have a husband/boyfriend/friend who will only eat classic Jif, I bet they will love this one.

IMG_4998 (1024x768)

The Mix My Granola was SUPER. But I gotta mention the biggest con: you don’t get much for the price. I could not afford to buy this regularly, but as a gift or a few times a year treat to get just what you want, it’s awesome.

Mix My Granola Contest

SOOooooooo…….enter to win your own!!!

Leave a comment stating the mix you’d like to try and I’ll pick one lucky winner to receive a $20 gift certificate.

NOTE: Due to the number of comments that usual come through my Inbox on contest days, I won’t be personally responding to comments on this post so save your questions for lunch 🙂

Warmth –

I just checked into the Blogger’s Choice Awards and KERF has 80 votes! THANK YOU! But the current Best Food Blog only has 126. I am so jealous they get to have the number 26 by their name, I’d love to have it by mine too

Mmmmm … granola! I usually don’t eat much granola because I can never find one that has all the things I like (and isn’t ridiculously high in fat). MixMyGranola sounds intriguing!

TheDanadians Granola mix would include: French Vanilla Granola; Organic Dried Apples; Dried Bing Cherries; Organic Pepitas; Chia Seeds; Oatbran Flakes; and (for fun) Cocoa Crisp Bites.
    Yum!

I believe you are supposed to say “another whole dimension” instead of “a whole ‘nother dimension” … it is a word placement thing. But I like to say ‘nother, it is more fun and natural, especially when speaking

Hmm, I’d start with the low-fat granola and add as much dried fruit as possible. No banana chips, though, they’re too difficult to navigate in granola.

And I say “a whole ‘nother” too. There’s a grammatical term for inserting one word in another (like absofreakinglutely), but I can’t remember what it is.

I don’t think a single week goes by that I don’t make a batch of granola. This one is my current favorite: http://lifeloveandfood24.blogspot.com/2009/02/morning-noon-night.html

I am all about oats, period. I’m curious, have you thought about making your own personalized granola on your own?
I made some last night – super easy, it’s so hard to put in the oil that is required to make granola but it gets put into the storebought brands too… somehow it’s better when I don’t definitively know it’s there….
Plus you get to add raw wheat germ, flax meal, dried unsweetened coconut, sesame, sunflower, walnuts, almonds, etc…
I need to play with the diff. extracts too… I think the emulsified extracts might do a better job since they are less volatile..
I need to figure out a way to make choc. espresso granola…. yummm
