Charlottesville, A to Z

I’ve been wanting to live this day for a long, long time.

DowntownBlog

Walking. Chic town. Great workout. Lunch out. Coffee (tea) shop. Haircut. Sunshine!

If only it were 85* it would have been the perfect day!

Here is me walking the 2ish miles to my gym this morning. Followed by a smashing Body Pump class! I made it through 2 medium and 1 small weights on each side with biceps. Definitely, definitely getting stronger. It was nearly impossible! I ended by working up a sweat on the stairmaster for 15 minutes (Body Pump doesn’t make me sweat and I wanted to be sweaty when I showered in the women’s locker room!)

IMG_3698Blog-2

After some jock time showering, I headed downtown for lunch!

Downtown2Blog

Ladies and Gentleman, may I present:

Charlottesville, A to Z

BLOG UPLOAD6 this !

And the grande finale…

IMG_3737Blog-2

I had such fun with that little project!

I ended up at the Blue Ridge Country Store for lunch – which boasts a Whole Foods-like salad bar right downtown!

IMG_3735BlogIMG_3738Blog-2

The only problem is there is no seating, so I set on a mission to find some kind of table. I ended up scoring a nice picnic table in the Pavilion! In the summertime the city sets up lots of tables in there for businesspeople to enjoy lunch al fresco. Have I mentioned that the city also provides free wifi throughout the whole downtown? LOVE this place!

PavillionBlog

Lunch was cold. I needed the sun on me to feel warm!

IMG_3744Blog-2

My salad was great – lots of noodles, beans and veggies.

SaladzzBlog

Plus a coconut covered date for dessert!

IMG_3747Blog-2

I lugged my backpack all around town. Luckily my gym offers towel service (for $2 a use) that I splurged on today so I wouldn’t also have a wet towel. My bag contained my netbook, camera, gym clothes, coat, wallet, makeup, etc. It was quite heavy!

IMG_3739Blog-2

I had an hour to kill before my haircut, so I went to the Tea Bazaar for a big pot of peppermint tea and to get some work done. I spent an hour JUST dealing with emails!

IMG_3752Blog-2

Then it was haircut time! I went to Salad Salon Druknya downtown. Loved working with Shannon!

FIVE INCHES GONE!!!!!!!!!

IMG_3774Blog-2

I prefer my hair long, but it was getting IMPOSSIBLE to control!!! Shampooing was hard. Running without forming a rat’s nest was hard. Life was hard. So I said goodbye. See you next year long hair.

IMG_3776Blog-2IMG_3777Blog-2IMG_3778Blog

I do like the new do a lot!

So does Tiger.

IMG_3773Blog

But he does not like to snuggle!

TigeriswigglyBlog

[Now I am covered in human and cat hair]

Sorry Tiger, if you don’t want to snuggle you can’t come inside!

Great haircut! Your photo collage makes me want to wander around Mass St in Lawrence, KS (home of KU – go Jayhawks!) and take photos of the great shops you can find there. I could do with some Mad Greek grub this weekend.

Lovely hair, Kath. I know this has been mentioned somewhere before, but is Matt opposed to meds to address the cat allergy? Every time my boyfriend and I talk about marriage, I cringe at the cat discussion. He’s allergic, too, and it makes me so sad!

The longer you’re around them, the more you build up a tolerance. I’m allergic to cats and I have 2 indoor ones! When I was in college and lived away from them I would come home on the weekends and sneeze the whole time. Now they don’t bother me as long as I don’t rub on them and then rub my face.

Past the pavilion, across the street and over a bridge or overpass is Spudnuts. Back in the day, it was a franchise opportunity but I think headquarters has long since closed down and operators are wholly independent. I’m not one to get excited about doughnuts, but Spudnuts’ are amazing. Sometimes food at its finest. The coffee is terrible, though.

Bringing my mom and 9 yr old son to visit and would like to stay someplace fun but definitely where it’s easy walking to local flava. We are planning to check out the art event on first friday and intend to eat well. Other destinations on agenda include Monticello and possibly winery. Also do you know of any races on Saturday April 2? I love to run in events when I travel. Surely you are a better trip advisor than AAA!

Your hair cut looks cute. I need one BADLY! I keep putting it off week after week. Ugh. That is SO adorable that you have a visiting kitty. Our cats are NOT friendly like that toward anyone outside of our home, lol. Oh, and they don’t like to cuddle, either. Well, if you hold them just so, maybe, but not baby-style. 🙁

I don’t know – it takes a lot to get me to sweat!! I need my heart rate above 130 or so to sweat, and BP is much more lifting than cardio for me.

        March 12, 2011 at 1:41 am

I sweat in BP, but have a good amount of weight on there. I’ll bet you could get your heart rate higher with more weight and heavier breathing. Our BP also has some fast tempo. Does the one you go to use music and push through long fast sets? Maybe different instructors do BP differenty. You might be able to catch Pam’s 6 a.m. great class on Thursday; or others on either Friday 10:30 or Saturday 11:30 (I miss those due to work schedule, but catch Pam’s other class on the weekend)–let me know if you are interested.

Would love to see more pics etc of the shops and things you do, i’m jotting it all down for future ideas, so thanks! When do those music festivals start that you go to?
