Buddha Duck

Happy Happy Easter!

We have a beautiful springtime morning here in the Carolinas!

Mist and Dew

IMG_9719 (640x427)

IMG_9718 (640x427)

And I was hungry for some oats!

Ladies [and gentleman!], may I present the Buddha Bowl! Coming soon to an Open Sky store near you!

IMG_9701 (640x427)

Perhaps the most fun, beautiful and exciting bowl I have ever stumbled across! Hand-made to order, these bowls fit in the palm of your hand. GENIUS! I love to snuggle with my oatmeal, so this bowl was designed for me!

IMG_9709 (640x427)

Today’s oatmeal mix featured the Bob’s Red Mill 10 Grain Hot Cereal.

IMG_9693 (640x427)

Ingredients:

IMG_9694 (640x427)

Some Justin’s Maple Almond Butter sauce – made with a few tbsp of milk and heated in the microwave and stirred until it was smooth

IMG_9699 (640x427)

As well as a Breakfast Witch breakfast brownie Rebecca from NYC gave me yesterday!! It’s from the Fat Witch Bakery. I guess if  you put brownies on your oatmeal everyday you become a fat witch!? Hee hee. Thanks Rebecca!!

IMG_9697 (640x427)

The Mix

  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/8 cup 10 grain hot cereal
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 banana
  • Pinch salt
  • Dash vanilla
  • Almond butter sauce
  • Fat Witch crumbles

I love to mix the hot cereals with oats. You get the small grains but it still turns out nice n creamy.

May your day be filled with jelly beans, chocolate eggs, and DUCKS!

Happy Birthday to DUCKIE YOUNGER!

Born on Easter in 1991….

Ducky family

Today is Duckie’s 19th birthday!

MOM: “Hard to believe. He doesn’t act that old.”

LARBS: “He may not act that old, but he sure looks that old!”

Ha! Duckie loves oats too… and Lillian!

Ducky Ducky oats

Adios!

I don’t know which is more gorgeous – the bowl or your duck, particularly with all the signs of love on his fur! But that bowl is brilliant – I love eating on the couch, snuggled up, and have spilled more times than I mean to. Darn Australian far awayness!

Hi Kath! First, I LOOOOVE your blog! So many great recipes and I love reading about your running accomplishments! You (and some other foodie/runner bloggers) have inspired me to actually set goals for myself with running…I’m going to work on increasing my endurance instead of just rushing through my workouts to get done in thirty minutes! Perfect timing since it’s almost summer and no school to worry about!

I have a question though – how effective are ellipticals? I don’t ever feel like I’m getting a workout when I’m on the elliptical compared to when I’m on the treadmill or just running outside….any input?

    Thanks! -Sara

      Thanks Sara!!

I’m not sure what you mean by “effective.” When I elliptical, my heart rate is usually in the 150s – which means I’m burning calories and breathing moderately. I could still carry on a conversation though. I use the ET as cross training from harder workouts scattered throughout my week.

      Hope that helps!

Looks like a gorgeous day in the Carolinas.

Also, I had the funniest conversation with my dad the other day. My mom and him go to North Carolina a couple times a year and he was telling me about all the places they go while they are there. And then he said “We always go to this one grocery store… I forget what it’s called” and I said “Is it Harris Teeter?” And he goes “YES! How did you know that??” Haha. It’s cause I read KERF!

i have the vanilla chai VEGA whole food health optimizer….it says that you can take 2 full scoops (68 g) and add water and have a balanced smoothie.
I was going to have the FULL 2 scoops + 1 cup almond milk + water + 1 cup frozen berries. Its a lot of fibre I know…but…think that is TOO much for one siting alone?
I have had the full (30 g) whole food infusion one before and tolerated it fine.
never had this flavor of chai and wondering if u think that is far too much for a breakfast. Thanks..I will check back tonight to see if you leave me a response.

      Kate,
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having two scoops, but since one serving = 1 scoop, I would make my smoothies with just one.
