Breakfasts For A Hobbit

Boy did I get a lot of sleep last night! 10 hours I think? Today I am energized, and I attribute it to the AM workout.

I had to get up and going due to an 11am appointment and went to the gym in the rain via automobile. It was fun not to bike 😉

I don’t usually eat anything before my 5am workouts, but when I go later in the day – even if it’s shortly after waking up – I do have to have a breakfast. It’s like my body knows what time it is and I’m much hungrier at 8am than 5am.

So today I had half a breakfast, expecting to have the other half when I got home like a Hobbit. I toasted a Cinnamon Raisin Walnut Great Harvest bun and topped it with a thin spread of blueberry preserves and Chocolate Vanilla Almond Butter.

Orange photos for those of you who asked. This came from my grandmother – not sure where she got it.

At the gym I did 45 sweaty fast minutes on the ET with Health Magazine and then 10 minutes of speed lifting. I’m hoping to do a gym video soon!

Second Breakfast was a smoothie –

IMG_7187 (1024x768)

  • 1/4 cup dry rolled oats
  • 1 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 2 big handfuls spinach (can’t taste it at all!)
  • 1/2 a banana, frozen
  • 5 cubes of ice

Off to my appt.!

    I love the candle!!

Great call splitting up your breakfast – I do the same thing on days when I have a long run scheduled and it’s a huge help to have a small something in my stomach before my workout 🙂

    Hope your appointment goes well!

I have yet to try a green monster… As much as I love spinach, I think I’m always worried that’s all I’ll be able to taste. I think it’s about time I hop on the bandwagon!

I need to get spinach, because not only did my guy say he wants to start drinking more smoothies, he agreed to TRY a green monster! I was shocked…now I just have to 100% make sure he won’t taste the spinach or he’ll never have a second one, LOL.

Your smoothie looks gorgeous! I love how pretty they get…unless you add berries, which makes it tasty but not so hot too look at 🙂

I love how you split up breakfast to work with your schedule!

Those EM look delicious! Do you ever have a problem keeply them crunchy after you toast them and put on the toppings? I just hate when they seem to get “soggy” after I put on my nut butters or preserves. Any suggestions?

    Have a great day! 🙂

I like to have a 100 – 150 calorie snack before hitting the gym, then breakfast when I get home. Guess I am a hobbit, too!

I need to try a green monster some time. A little scared, though. I am not a huge smoothie fan – I always drink them too fast.

Today I took myself out for lunch as it was my first summer Friday (we get Fridays off all summer at work). I was enjoying my sandwich and the bartenders were stocking their shelves when one of the bartenders asked the others, “where should we put the Tusker?” I couldn’t miss that label anywhere! Made me think of your fun travels. Have a great weekend!

    Heather ,
Sounds like you should toast it longer before putting on your toppings?

    deva ,
They don’t change the texture much, but the add a wonderful doughy flavor.

    Joanie Simon,
    HA! Tusker!!

spinach in the smoothie is the best. i’m not a big fan of cooked spinach and i only get so much of it daily so adding it to my smoothie is key. I didn’t realize how expensive all the “butters” are. I just bought some almond butter for $8. Do you buy yours from a store, online or are the given to you?

ashley < I've been lucky to get lots of free nut butters, but when I buy it I like Smucker's Natural, Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter Almond Butter. BUT many of the brands do go on sale, so I watch those so I can get some of the fancier ones too. Kath
