Fig butter sounds just incredible – I don’t know that I’ve ever even seen it but I’m definitely going to look harder next time I’m there.

Have a wonderful day at the bakery – tell Matt I’m happy for him that he’s going to get a rest! Haha

    1. TJs Pumpkin Butter
    2. TJs Fig Butter (but its a close call for #1 or 2)
    3. TJs Honey Apple Butter
    4. TJs Mango Butter (disappointed)

The fig butter is definitely much thicker than the mango (which I found pretty drippy), so be ready for a consistency change. But if you like figs you will love the taste for sure!

Love that mug. I used to b*#@h and moan about bikers (yep, true – but you know how it is in Charlotte. no great bike lanes, and thus they are always in MY way in my car)… but, I just spent last week at the beach, and on a bike. We tooled up and down the island each and every day. I loved it. Nothing fancy, and certainly not done for sport; but we must have covered over 30 miles in just a few days, without even trying.

I tend to be out SPOKEn (I’ll go with the theme) but what is it with the love of nut butters (not just you, lots of others) that have so much added sugar and oil to them? Why not just go with a plain variety? Seems like excessive non nutritional additives put in there. I would love to hear your thoughts as a dietician. Knowing full well you use it as a condiment in small portions.

    • KathEats says

      August 24, 2011 at 1:06 pm

You said it yourself – it’s just a condiment. I don’t think twice about using ketchup with HFCS in restaurants either. Additionally, the ratio of sugar + oil to peanuts is very very small so it’s even less than the nut butter as a whole. I really enjoy all the flavor varieties – I’d get bored eating the same nut butter everyday and I like using them for a good source of fats in my breakfasts.

I’ve recently started using chia seeds, and am wondering…do you just put them into your oatmeal whole? Or do you grind them somehow? And do you put them in while it’s cooking, or at the end? My little guy doesn’t seem to like their texture, so I’m thinking of trying to grind them…

I just bought a bike! I was inspired by the fact that you rarely drive and spent $0 on gas (a few posts ago). I try to bike for entertainment and would love to conquer commuting if it weren’t for so many freeway overpasses – do you just walk your bike? I’ve always heard wayyy too much about people getting hit by cars, but I suppose that’s because I live in Southern California. Eek.

We don’t really have freeway overpasses here in Cville, so that makes it easier! I would never have ridden on the roads in Charlotte – crazy traffic. This is one reason we wanted to move to a smaller city. Cville is very bike friendly, but other cities – not so much.
