Breakfast In Bed

IMG_5708Blog

I woke up to breakfast cooked for me in the rice cooker: a steaming bowl of porridge. After dressing it up (and taking it out for its morning photoshoot) we got back in bed and read Catching Fire for a good hour. I’m nearing the end of the book – so good!!

OatzBlogIMG_5705Blog

this !
Rice cooker base:

  • 1/3 cup Coach’s Oats
  • 1.33 cups water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • pinch salt
  • cinnamon
  • half banana

Porridge setting with 7:30 timer

1/3 cup milk stirred in at end and rested for 1 minute to heat

Toppings included Nuts About Granola Minty Chocolate, Cacao bliss and Nuttzo.

I haven’t had breakfast in bed in years and it was pretty fun indeed!

Alas, I have peeled myself from the down comforter and am ready to start this Saturday. We have two events to attend and a grocery store to visit.

I thought about eating in bed this morning but after spilling my eggs on the stove and dropping cheese on the floor, I figured it might be safer to eat at the table! Ha! Have a good Saturday!!

Alright, darnit, I’m breaking down and getting a rice cooker today. Thinking about coming home from teaching back to back spin and Bodypump tomorrow and having a big bowl of oatmeal waiting for me kind of sounds perfect.
Keep those rice cooker recipes coming (and I’m going to have to start developing my own, too!).
Have a good Saturday, Kath. 🙂

I absolutely love breakfast in bed too! I used to make my mom bfast in bed all the time when I my sister and I were little. It usually had something to do with french toast cut into the shape of hearts! Now, I rarely get time for breakfast in bed…always on the go. However, a big bowl of this porridge sounds absolutely divine, that is my kind of heart-warming breakfast…reminds me of the three little bears story, the porridge, that is. Have a great Saturday!

After hearing about the rice cooker oatmeal method from you, I gave it a shot today. It was so easy! I can’t believe how voluminous the oatmeal came out. The mint chocolate granola looks amazing! I’m reading The Hunger Games right now. It’s getting pretty addictive. Can’t wait to get to Catching Fire!

Oh what I would give for breakfast in bed. My friend told me the other day that her and her husband lay in bed every Saturday morning and drink coffee and watch tv. I’ve got two little munchkins that demand food immediately after their little feet hit the floor! No relaxing in bed for me. Enjoy it while you can 🙂

I’ve always thought having breakfast sounded so relaxing and delightful, but for some reason, I’ve never actually done so. Probably for the better though, since I’m known for spilling a lot of my food and would more than likely end up with a comforter full of oatmeal. Either that or I’d have to completely cover my bed in plastic before getting in. Do you actually recline while eating? Maybe I need to invest in one of those beds like they have in the hospital that raise and lower.
