10 Bathroom Wall Decor Ideas

You don’t normally think about bathroom wall art, but it’s a thing! Here are 10 bathroom wall decor ideas to spruce up any bathroom in your home. I used AI tools to generate these photos!

Bathroom Wall Decor Ideas AI this !

My bathroom with some AI black and white wallpaper!

It can be argued that the bathroom is the most used room in the whole house, utilized not just by those who live there, but all guests who come and go. Because of this, bathrooms tend to be viewed more for their function than their style. But why not be both?

First decide on a cohesive vision

Before getting into decor ideas, a good first step is to figure out your overall vision for the vibe and ambiance of the bathroom. Do you want a clean/simple/minimal aesthetic? Or do you want to walk into your bathroom and feel like you’re at the beach? Maybe you want the decor to feel like an extension of the rest of the house, or go the opposite and make it stand out from any other room.

Having a strong creative vision will also guarantee your final product is creatively cohesive and coordinated. Our vision is black and white modern farmhouse to match the rest of our house. I do think we could carry this on with some more unique decor in our bathroom.

10 Bathroom Wall Decor Ideas

Wall Art

Probably the most obvious choice on this list, artwork is a great place to start for wall decor because the possibilities are endless. You can go big and bold, small and subtle, framed or unframed, a pop of color, or something more subdued. It also doesn’t have to be a picture necessarily. Since the steam of a bathroom can impact paper, you could go more geometric or durable materials that are moisture friendly.

Photos

Mantlepieces and staircase walls might be the most obvious spots for family portraits, but an empty wall in the bathroom can be a great place to display memories with friends and family. It can be one or two chose pictures, or an entire gallery wall. You could even have a theme; silly family photos in the bathroom and the more serious portraits out in the main rooms. Kids splashing in the ocean or water memories would be a good portrait theme.

Mirrors

A vanity is often the focal point of the bathroom, and the mirror the centerpiece. This is the perfect example of style and functionality fusing into a single element. Some mirrors can be used as a statement piece, whereas others have built-in shelving for everyday use. We have these mirrors for our double vanity and love them for their contrast and clean look.

Floating Shelves

Not only do floating shelves look great and come in a variety of styles, they make an excellent storage space that keeps items front and center yet out of the way. These shelves can house more decor like plants, candles, etc. Or you can store every items like floss picks, q-tips, or cotton balls in decorative jars. For further tips on decorating shelves, check out my post here!

Leaning Ladder Rack

A ladder rack leans right up against the wall for extra style and storage, plus it’s a great way to hang and showcase your favorite towels and linens or even set out your clothes for the day. You can go modern with black matte or rustic with a farmhouse wooden ladder.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is its own form of bathroom wall art, able to change the entire vibe of a room depending on the color and pattern, as well as going with a floor-to-ceiling design, halfway up/down the wall, or an accent wall. And similar to temporary tattoos, wall stickers are like a wallpaper you can apply and enjoy until you change your mind, just much more budget-friendly. While I love the idea of a bold wallpaper in a powder bath, I’d have a hard time doing my primary bath in a print this colorful!

Decorative Hooks & Racks

The devil is in the details! Sometimes all a powder room needs for some extra pizzazz are some updated hooks and towel bars. You can take this in so many different directions, like adding piping for a more industrial look, or a pull-out towel bar for a more sleek, modern bathroom feel. There are so many unique hooks on the market!

Plants

If you have a small space, using shelves or nooks for plants can utilize wall space. It’s no secret plants and greenery can be used to liven up a room, but a little really does go a long way! A cute, little jade plant or a long, sprawling pothos adds life (literally) as well as that pop of color. But make sure to avoid succulents and cacti since bathrooms with showers can get steamy.

Lighting

Lighting is what makes or breaks the ambiance for any space, and honestly should be even farther up this list because it’s THAT important. Sconces on either side of your mirror are very timeless and add satisfying symmetry, or maybe add a small lamp that matches the rest of the bathroom’s vibe to each corner of your vanity for some extra mood lighting. If you don’t have the budget for custom sconces, there are newer models that plug in and can instantly change a room.

Clocks

A working clock in the bathroom is essential, especially for those rushed mornings getting ready to start the day. So why not have one you’ll enjoy looking at too? Just like with artwork, clocks come in all shapes, sizes, colors, as well as digital or analog depending on your vibe. Some people even collect wall clocks, who says you can’t have a gallery wall that tells time?

I hope these wall decor ideas helped inspire you to add some creativity and personality to your bathroom space!

Kath, I’ve been a reader since 2009-ish and used to check into your blog daily. I know that blog times have changed significantly since then, but I find myself stopping by here less and less frequently because it’s become very generic, salesy, and not at all personal. I am sure your desire to share personal goings-on have changed for you as your kids have grown. But, FWIW I have no desire to read posts about random items I “should” buy for my home, when it’s clear they often aren’t even items you’ve purchased for yourself! Real product reviews are one thing, but endless linking to other products just to hit metrics make the space very impersonal and unappealing.

    Thanks for reading,
    Lori

I appreciate the feedback and I don’t disagree with you. I have the capacity to write about one personal post each week, which is my goal (I don’t always get there) and that’s more based on personal content then time. I try to balance those with more evergreen posts, and I agree some of them miss the mark. It’s hard to know what will do well and what won’t, so sometimes we (bloggers) are just throwing spitballs! I always enjoy writing personal posts, but I feel like I don’t have as many things to write about as I used to. Perhaps that is because social media is where a lot of day-to-day content ends up for me and everyone else. In this moment I’m trying to keep new content coming to keep the blog chugging along, but there may be a time when I just do one personal post a week and let go of the rest. But every now and then “the rest” goes a little viral and the more boring posts seem worth it! That’s a little bit of my thought process : )
