Bald Head Day 2: Beach Day

[Catch Day 1 here]

this !

We lucked out with some gorgeous weather on our trip. Not a drop of rain after our drive down! The forecast said Saturday would be our warmest day, so we decided to spend the day on the beach.

We started off with a lovely breakfast of eggs, fruit, bacon, OJ, toast, and coffee at the inn.

Mazen, mom and I went on a nature walk by Old Baldy and down to the marsh.

We were on the lookout for snakes and gators, but we didn’t see any on this hike.

I packed up a picnic for the beach to keep us fueled for the day, and we headed towards the Shoals Club.

Our picnic had a bunch of portable snacks and finger foods that would be easy to eat without a table and chairs, and I brought everything in a cooler to….keep it cool!

For our picnic, we had fruit, pepperoni, Mini Babybel®, crackers, carrots, and vanilla almond balls to nibble on.

Mazen loves to have fun unwrapping the Mini Babybels, and I love that they’re delicious, portable, and a good source of protein and calcium. Plus, everyone in the family is gaga for cheese!

Grammie and Pea pretended never to have seen a Mini Babybel before and asked Mazen for instructions on how to unwrap and eat them. He loves being in charge, so it was funny to watch him instruct. Check out his stern teacher face: “No Grammie, I will show you. First, you take off the wrapper, then you pull this white tab and the cheese is inside!”

We had a great time on the beach, and Mazen chased birds, smashed sand cliffs and managed to get sand on every inch of his body : )

I just started Big Little Lies! So far it’s really good, and I can’t wait to watch the HBO show after I finish it. I spent a few hours just sitting on this driftwood reading…. (haha j/k!)

Later in the afternoon, we had a few snacks up at the club for a late lunch – nachos and crudités with dips.

We went back to the inn to shower and get changed, and then golf carted ourselves back to the Shoals Club for a sunset cocktail hour and dinner.

Mr. Handsome!

My other handsome guy!! (Dress is from Stitch Fix!)

Since basketball was on and we’d had such a late lunch, we ended up having apps at the bar for dinner. I had a Caesar salad and fried oysters. (Go Zags!)

Stay tuned for a recap of our final day tomorrow!

I love that dress, I remember is from your SF post. Looks great for the beach. Is the club the only restaurant on the island? Do you have to be a member to go? Thinking ahead for family friendly summer trips…

There are 4-5 restaurants, but I think you need to be a member at the Club to dine there, but maybe not the bar?? I’m actually not 100% sure. Most of the house rentals come with temporary memberships though, so that allows you to be members for your stay!

Oh, very cool that the rentals have a temp membership, that makes sense. Thanks!

Haha, Mazen teaching how to unwrap the cheese is too cute 🙂 What a perfect family day at the beach! I love beach picnics and it looks like it wasn’t too crowded, which is always the best!

It looks like a perfect day. I am so in need of a beach day but the weather here in northern ca hasn’t been nice enough yet. I also love babybel and have been eating them the last couple weeks. They totally bring me back to being a kid.

I loved Big Little Lies. All of Liane Moriarty’s books are great! Have you ever visited the website www.thebookcaster.com? It is a site that allows you to cast and vote on which actors you think would be best in film adaptations of books. I always envision who I would see playing a part as I read a book and it is fun to see who other people see in those parts as well.

My husband and I have been dying to go to North Carolina (I think that’s where Bald Head is?) We hear east coast beaches are so much warmer than west coast, is that true?!?

Yes to NC, and yes, East Coast beaches are all about humidity and swimming!

is it really warm enough to head to the beach? I’m so jealous if that’s the case. We’re still hovering around the freezing point!

It wasn’t that warm – not enough to swim at least! But it was in the mid-70s for our beach day.

What a lovely day at the beach! Gosh it doesn’t look like there was much food for your group haha! Or maybe you only put out a little bit for the photo? The pepperoni looks good, where did you get it from?

Hah-my son, who is now 26 and an engineer, used to take the wax from babybel cheese and make candles for me. LOL! I think he was 5 or 6 at the time! Looks like a great trip.
