Baby Time, Adult Time

Happy Weekend!!

Foodblog-2-8

We had an awesome night’s sleep on Friday night. 5.5 hours + 2.5 hours. Only one nighttime feeding! I know better than to assume this is how it will be forever, but we are enjoying it so much right now.

Foodblog-9095

Grammie Buzz played with Maze while I made us both baked pumpkin oatmeal : ) I added some coconut to the topping instead of brown sugar, and it toasted perfectly in the oven!

Foodblog-9106

Topped with sunflower butter and more coconut.

Foodblog-9105

Foodblog-9107

After breakfast, mom and I walked down to the bakery for exercise where we said goodbye to them. She is heartbroken she won’t see Maze again until Christmas! (Unless she decides to come visit!)

Foodblog-2-2-2

Matt and I then walked to the city market where we shopped around and got lunch.

Foodblog-121240

I had a root veggie wrap in naan from Greenie’s, a really fun veggie-centric place. This had everything from beets to sweet potatoes and a spread of goat cheese on the edges. It was awesome!

Foodblog-122108Foodblog--29

Also enjoyed a bottle of Nugget’s Raw Kombucha – Citra Hops flavor!

Foodblog-122710

Foodblog-2-3-2

We walked home and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out with M. He loves toys! I’m the proudest mama in the world when he interact with them. And smiles at them. So proud.

Foodblog--28

We also test drove the Toyota Highlander and loved it!!

This evening, we were invited to a lovely dinner put on by the lovely Sarah and her husband, John.

Foodblog-9130

The table was on their back deck and dressed beautifully! Loved the burlap runner. Heaters on top!

Foodblog-9116

We brought a few dozen of our rolls to go with dinner plus a pumpkin bean dip I put together –

  • 1 cup white beans
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup ricotta
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1/4 tsp salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp smoked maple syrup

Foodblog-9110

All blended together in the vita-mix.

Foodblog-9108

Foodblog-9138

We had brie and grapes to start –

Foodblog-9120

Paired with this spicy jalapeno wine!! What an interesting flavor. I couldn’t drink more than a few sips, but I loved the concept.

Foodblog-9122

More apps included a quiche

Foodblog-9125

And cilantro deviled eggs. Both brought by other guests.

Foodblog-9126

The main course was turkey loin with rosemary, roasted potatoes, asparagus with lemon hollandaise, and cheesy roasted cauliflower

Foodblog-9136

We had a great time with our friends!

Foodblog-9133

Our sweet baby was upstairs with his first babysitter and his friend Sylvia. I was able to go up and feed him when he needed me. They had a fun time playing together!

Foodblog-950300

We ended the night by a warm fire, but Matt and I left a little early to tuck Mazen into bed. Even when he was just upstairs, we missed him so much! Fun evening with friends though.

I love how often you are able to get out and about with Mazen. I’m due in December, and I have been thinking about how I would love to get out and about with my own little boy. I have a question for you: What are your plans for doing this during the winter months? We bought one of those sleeping bag things that goes over the stroller, but I’m not sure if that will keep baby warm enough…Have you thought about it at all? Any ideas besides mall-walking?

I haven’t planned for this yet but I think a bunting (the sleeper thing) is probably a smart idea

We own a highlander and love it too, especially good if you plan to have more kids.

Toys already? Which ones Maze like?

I’ve been driving Toyotas for about 10 years now and we traded our Sequoia in for a Highlander last spring. I love that car!!! You can’t go wrong with Toyota in general IMO. The highlander is a great size SUV. Not too big or small. Good luck with you decision!

I just bought a Mazda CX-5 and I LOVE it. I hope you will give mazda a chance. they have a larger vehicle a CX-9 that might be perfect for you, but the price is MUCH more reasonably priced than Honda or Toyota!

We sat in the CX-5 and I LOVED it! But it was too small for us. We test drove the CX-9 and just didn’t like it. Something about the feel and style and drive. My first car was a Mazda though, so I love ’em.

The Nugget’s Raw Kombucha looks so good and so does the bean/pumpkin dip you made. And so does that slice of brie 🙂 What a fun event!

And woo-hoo for one night-time feeding. That’s a milestone, wow! Congrats mom 🙂

What a gorgeous spread! I am always so intimidated by table settings, it just seems like one of those super-luxurious details that I’ll always be too distracted by all of the other things at a dinner party (namely, the FOOD) to be good at; but it gives such an incredible air of elegance.

That baked oatmeal looks delicious! Do you prefer regular oats or baked oats?

You could get lucky with the sleep. Our first didn’t sleep well…5 hours at 5 months. 8 hours at 8 months.

Our new baby started sleeping 10+ hours at about 12 weeks. 🙂

Wow! What fun you always have 🙂

Question – is it normal in the south to always have dinner parties? I’ve noticed over the years as I’ve followed you that you always find friends and have dinner, whether at a restaurant or at someomes home. Today it occurred to me that this might be a southern thing? Or is it just your group of friends?

Toyota’s are super reliable. My parents have a 99 Sienna and it’s still acting like it was just born!

I don’t think it’s necessarily southern – maybe it’s more of an adult thing? I think adults have more dinner parties whereas younger folks have more party-parties

I just threw the first dinner party in our new house last night. It was a big hit! I always hire a sitter for my parties so that we can have grown up time knowing our kiddos are close by, it also keeps people from getting too inebriated because they have their kids with them. I wish some of my friends would return the favor when they throw parties!

BTW – Mazen looks like he has grown a ton in the last week.

Yay for some good sleep!! It will last and it only gets better from here! As for car shopping, when we bought our pathfinder it was long before baby, we did test drive the highlander and i loved it!
My only advise is to check out how it is with the car seat in it, facing backwards. Our pathfinder is a great size car, until that carseat came on board! We are pretty tall and when its in, the passenger seat is up pretty far. Esp. with now they recommend 2 years facing back!?

Best of luck with the car decision! And Mazen is indeed getting big! Power to the milk!

Do you have any special tips for getting all of the food out of a Vitamix and cleaning it thoroughly? I love mine about 95% but it would be 100% if the bottom detached or something.

I use a spatula. And then for cleaning, just add hot water and dish soap and blend!
