A Baby Story

[Not time for mine yet : ) ]

I started watching A Baby Story when I was about 15 with my mom and sister. In the summers when school was out, we’d have marathons of baby and wedding story shows. I remember my chest welling with emotion every single time a baby was born. I hoped that some day I would be able to give birth too. As I grew up, I had much less time for TV and haven’t really had that much interest in the show – until recently! I thought: “I should record a few episodes!”

With lunch today, I watched an episode and instead of a small swell of emotion I found myself with hands on belly sobbing when their baby came out! I have pondered about this month my whole life and cannot believe that it’s here and that one way or another, we will be bringing a baby into the world too [knock on wood]. It still doesn’t feel real yet. In some ways, I can already barely remember being pregnant even though I still am. It’s just gone by so, so fast.

I went to Pump this morning for some lifting. I’m not sure when my last Pump class will be, but I’m able enough to do the free weights and modify all planks to hands-and-knees, go out and use the machine during chest and squat with just my body weight. Still glad to be keeping the muscles in shape!

Foodblog-3363

Lunch today was a scrambled egg wrap with spinach and some of the Caromont Farm herby goat cheese. So much delicious flavor!

On the side..

Corn chips + a peach!

Plus a refreshing lemonade-spiked water

Holy moly, I left the TV on in the background and just heard the woman on the next Baby Story episode is 36 weeks and in labor! I’m 36+4 today!

And I guess one final baby thought – I promise to update you all when I go into labor. Several people emailed me yesterday when I went missing : ) Unless there is an emergency and we literally can’t get to a computer or my phone, I’ll put up some kind of “it’s time” post.

i missed pump today (and the last two weeks on vacation) and will make it tonight instead. i hope you are there next monday so i can see you! yes, tears all around when my first was born. awesome, awesome.

i am sure that you have come across this tidbit with all your reading but have you ever heard about drinking red raspberry leaf tea (i was thinking about it when i saw your lemonade water)? i drank iced red raspberry leaf tea near the end of my pregnancies daily (i think you can drink 4-5 cups, of course check with your dr). good for uterine health and i had good labors so it might have helped but it definitely was a refreshing drink near the end!

Also thank you so much for putting me in touch with Shannon!

And i have heard about raspberry leaf – I guess it’s time to start steeping it!

I used red raspberry leaf tea for my third pregnancy and it was by far my best labor, I really believed that it strengthen my uterus muscles so when I w in labor my contractions really did their job, easy contractions, (at least they were pretty bearable even up until it was push time!) and QUICK! Althought my first two were quick, they were pretty painful, but I started drinking 3-4 cups of it around 32 weeks I believe? Too bad baby got stuck and it was my hardest delivery, I would think my third and smallest baby would have slid right out! Nope! Either way if I do have another I am totally drinking the tea again and use the evening primrose oil to help effacement!

I second the raspberry leaf recommendation – It helps the uterus contract back down to normal size after birth too 🙂

I used to watch A Baby Story all the time! When I was pregnant with my second, he would watch them with me. He knew I would have “PUSH” to get his brother out. Even though I’m done having babies, I find the whole pregnancy and childbirth experience fascinating. My oldest entered high school today. The time goes way too fast. Enjoy every second of it Kath!

I used to watch A Baby Story only because it was the only thing on the TVs at my gym at 5am that wasn’t an infomercial! (The episodes were all reruns.) Since I had my iPod on rather than earphones plugged into the tv thinggy, it didn’t have that weepy effect on me but Extreme Home Makeover, on the other hand, TOTALLY made my eyes well up, even when I was sweaty and prancing along on the treadmill!! Just watching the people’s faces when they saw their new homes was a huge heartstring-puller for me, and I am NOT the type that cries in movies or during TV shows!

Can’t wait for the ‘it’s time’ update… wow, the time has flown!!!

Awwww…..Kath, I can totally totally relate to what you are going through!! I used to watch Baby Story before, during and after pregnancy and every single episode makes me emotional. It was more emotional after my child’s birth because it reminded me of our birth story and the overwhelming joy it brought us. I wish you welcome your bundle joy just the way you wish and your ‘Baby Story’ would always bring you the fondest memories like ours does!!

Wouldn’t it be nice if our birth experiences could be wrapped up into a nice little half an hour like that show? The only baby show I could watch when I was pregnant, was “16 and Pregnant” ha. not sure why. I think because It made me think “if they can do it, so can I!” A girl from the town I currently live in was on this season, and my midwife delivered her! It was kind of cool to see my hospital in action (albeit in a short, edited way) before the big day!

That is too sweet. You are in such a magical time. I watch baby story occasionally with my daughters, they are 7 & 9, both c-section babies and have no clue about the facts of life yet so I tend to get a little nervous when it’s time for the woman to push. We are about to get some farm animals and I was hoping nature could start to help me approach the subject of where babies come from. So we were watching some youtube vids with goats giving birth and my 7 year old exclaims, “OMG, why is it coming out of her butt?” LOL of course! Oh how I dread THE TALK! Anyway, good luck and congrats!

I have always loved that show and watched it for years before my first was born (10 yrs ago). I still DVR it and most of them I have seen already! I sometimes catch one I have missed though.

I am a Lamaze instructor, though, so birth is definitely my thing. It’s amazing no matter how many times you have done it (for me, 4) or how many births you have been blessed to witness (for me, about a 18).

Kath, Your story today brings back so many memories. I am excited for you. I had so much fun when my two boys were born. Like fun at the hospital. I had no idea it would be fun. We had a birthday cake that my dad brought and a big birthday party! There are no words to describe what a blast it was. My boys are now 12 and 8 and as my mom says enjoy every moment. I’m trying to keep that in mind even as they are arguing with each other right now.

If I am doing the math correctly, you were watching that show with your mom the same time I was watching it with mine! Except, in my case, I had my babies already. I still cannot watch a delivery without crying. My mother was a labor and delivery room nurse, and said she cried every time.

I love watching a Baby Story too! Makes me cry every time, especially as I am getting closer to my own baby’s birthday 🙂 Did you watch this morning? There was one episode with a woman that said, “With my 1st baby it was important to me to do an all natural birth- with an epidural of course.” By all natural I assume she means vaginally, not medication free, but interesting how different people have different ideas about what a ‘natural’ birth is.

This is a very exciting time for you! My sister is also almost 37 weeks pregnant and I am literally checking with her every hour to see if she’s in labor. I gave birth almost 9 months ago and I was at the gym every day doing step class and weights until about week 38. At that point I switched to walking (lots and lots of walking!). Keep working out as long as you can. My doctor credits my easy labor to the fact that I was working out and doing yoga until the end. Good luck!
