Good wine country morning to you!

My body could use a bit of a detox right now but……we’re in SONOMA. Gotta take advantage.

But before we do, we decided a run would help rejuvenate tired cells. We drove over to a state park here in Santa Rosa and had a gorgeous run around a lake.

We ran FAST too. Yay for no Cville hills 😉 We covered about 4.3 miles in total (and got lost quite a bit)

We stopped for some quality coffee before going back to our hotel for the continental breakfast

Drink of the week: Cafe au Lait!

At the hotel I was thrilled to find a tub of full-fat thick PLAIN yogurt!!

I piled on about a cup with some fresh fruit, a tsp of jam and granola.

We are showering now and then the day begins! Not sure when I’ll see you again

Wow have so much fun! I’ve never been to Sonoma but have ALWAYS dreamed of going. Can’t wait to read about more of your adventures there!

2 Christine November 8, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Me too! I hope to make the trip…someday. For now, I’ll just sip wine at home and visit katheats! Haha

3 Amanda (Eating Up) November 8, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Have a wonderful day! I’m so jealous of all your adventures! 😛

4 Holly @ couchpotatoathlete November 8, 2010 at 1:17 pm

I love when hotels have good continental breakfast — there is nothing more disappointing to find a box of stale donuts and day old coffee waiting in the lobby :(

Enjoy your day!

5 Jessica @ How Sweet It Is November 8, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Have fun! I can’t think of a better place to be.

6 Estela @ Weekly Bite November 8, 2010 at 1:17 pm

8 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat November 8, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Wowww that bowl looks so delicious and colourful! Nice job on the run – you deserved that breakfast!

9 Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun November 8, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I love how amazing fresh, light food tastes after a weekend or time of eating more rich and heavy items.

10 Christin L. November 8, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Beautiful breakfast!

11 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) November 8, 2010 at 1:22 pm

I wish to visit Sonoma some day :) *fingers crossed 😀

18 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table November 8, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Enjoy!!! We only made it to St. Helena, but would love to try Sonoma.

I feel you on the need to detox. Got back from Cali a week ago and immediately began a much-needed Cleanse.

19 Nicole - yuppie yogini November 8, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Wish I were is wine country. Have fun-you can detox when you get home!! :)

20 megan @ whatmegansmaking November 8, 2010 at 1:53 pm

runs on vacation are always so much better than runs at home! Exploring a new place makes the run fly by. Especially with coffee as a reward :) Have fun!

21 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) November 8, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Oh Sonoma! So jealous of your travels as of late. Have fun! 😀

22 PassionArts et plus... November 8, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Je suis de la région de Québec, Canada… je te suis depuis presque qu’un an et j’aime beaucoup voir toutes les photos que tu mets sur ton site… surtout les plats que tu manges, cela nous donne de belles idées… Bravo à toi …

Enjoy your time in Sonoma with Matt :)

27 Mama Pea November 8, 2010 at 2:25 pm

I could use a little Wine Country myself. Hold the wine. Enjoy your time with Matt!

28 Michele @ Healthy Cultivations November 8, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Great tree pose!

29 Amy November 8, 2010 at 2:31 pm

So weird to see all these photos of where I grew up! Looks like those picnic area photos are in Howarth Park? I grew up just down the street! And the coffee shop is definitely Aroma’s! I spent a lot of time there when I was younger and still lived in the area!

30 Kath November 8, 2010 at 2:38 pm
31 Susan November 8, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Yeah, it’s funny to see photos of where I live. I live close to that park and spend lots of time running there. Can’t wait to see what you & Matt do in Sonoma. Sometimes I think the area where I live is so boring. It’s nice to get someone else’s perspective.

32 joni-marie November 8, 2010 at 2:33 pm

it’s so funny to know you are only an hour away from me! i live in Sacramento, ca and am a new (i think it’s been a few months now), but avid reader. if you have a chance i would recommended heading to Napa and checking out the Rutherford Grill. They have the most amazing fig wild rice! Have an amazing time enjoying Nor Cal!

33 Lily's Health Pad November 8, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I’m always amazed by people who get up early and run in order to feel refreshed. I usually opt for sleep instead!

34 Kath November 8, 2010 at 2:38 pm

We slept in, THEN ran :)

35 lisasfoods November 8, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Have a great day, Kath. Sounds like a great hotel if they have offerings like full fat yogurt, fruit, and granola for breakfast.

I’d love to get to Sonoma sometime. For now though I’ll have to make do with the wineries in northwest Connecticut.

36 Rachel November 8, 2010 at 2:38 pm

I recognize those nice, big CA oak trees!
Cafe au lait is my all-time favorite coffee drink – simple, adaptable, and plain good.

37 Katie (The Boston Marathoner) November 8, 2010 at 2:39 pm

I am definitely loving waking up and working out before starting the day. It’s hard to get in the habit of doing, but once you start – voila. Awesome.

38 kate November 8, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Cant wait to see what fun Sonoma brings to you two!

39 Jasmine @ Eat Move Write November 8, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Fun! What beautiful pictures. I love that you and hubby run together.

40 Jen November 8, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Hope you have an amazing time in Sonoma!!! Love all of the pictures :)

41 Claire (Low Impact Fashionista) November 8, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Ahh runs are the best for rejuvenation, I took a good one this morning too!

44 anne November 8, 2010 at 3:37 pm

Wine country in the fall – what a fantastic vacation! It’s fun to live vicariously through you.

45 Lisa (bakebikeblog) November 8, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Sounds like a perfect morning to me!!!

46 Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) November 8, 2010 at 4:12 pm

I love the wine country…SO MUCH!!!!

I wish i could have extended my Food Buzz trip and taken an extra day or two for Napa or Sonoma :)

47 Camille November 8, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I have that same exact picture of me striking that pose. Only mine is in Yosemite. Twinsies :)

48 J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) November 8, 2010 at 4:14 pm

I’d be excited about plain yogurt, too! What a luxury in a world filled with artificial flavors, lol.

49 Carrie H November 8, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Agreed! :) So funny that people might think of the sweetened yogurts as a treat … but I just think they’re gross now after years of eating plain. Give me homemade baked goods with real sugar and butter, and watch out, though!

50 Mary @ Bites and Bliss November 8, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Must have been a perfect run with such beautiful scenery and no hills!

51 Laura @ Backstage Pass November 8, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Looks like you two are having a blast! Enjoy your day :-)
Great to have met you this weekend!

52 Paige @Running Around Normal November 8, 2010 at 5:04 pm

Hope the run helped! I love getting lost in new places!…when I’m with someone else :)

53 Christie {Honoring Health} November 8, 2010 at 5:21 pm

How did you get up and do tree pose on that tiny pole??

Hope you are having a great time!

54 barefootgirl November 8, 2010 at 5:35 pm

have a blast!! WE’ve been to Sonoma once.. I found out I was pregnant 3 days before we left :0 ;)…. no wine tasting for me…

LOVE the Mondavi Vineyard… we still have a bottle ( though I’m sure it’s turned by now)

55 stacey-healthylife November 8, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Enjoy the day, great idea with the run. You should have ran through the vineyards.

56 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 8, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Good call on picking up coffee elsewhere. Hotel coffee is usually pretty gross. 😉

57 Kasey November 8, 2010 at 7:19 pm

Loving all your Cali photos!

58 Chelsea November 8, 2010 at 7:53 pm

Been reading for a couple months now and I love it! I’m from Sonoma county. Hope you’re enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having. Looks like you may have gone to Spring Lake. It’s a gorgeous run!

59 Lauren at KeepItSweet November 8, 2010 at 8:12 pm

i love wine country, have a blast

60 Hannah November 8, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I, too, get excited when plain yogurt if on offer. it’s the little things in life, right? 😉

61 Mandi November 8, 2010 at 9:08 pm

What gorgeous pics!!! I just realized that you live in Cville, which of course caught my eye because I am born and raised in Roanoke =) I went to VA Tech in Blacksburg, but now the hubs and I live in Charleston, SC near Erica =) I have family from Cville though and we love visiting there as well, it is beautiful, just like all of Southwest VA!

I just had to say hi – fellow Virginian!! yay =)

62 the salty girl November 8, 2010 at 9:39 pm

I love Santa Rosa. You should tell your beer loving husband to check out Russian River Brewery while you are there. They brew beer in wine barrels!!! It’s special!

63 Angela (the diet book junkie) November 8, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Sonoma is definitely on this girl’s bucket list. we were in Marlborough (New Zealand) on the weekend and it was AMAZING. looking forward to hearing your wine suggestions! :)

64 Kelli November 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm

awww, I’m so happy you went to Spring Lake! I walk there 3 times a week and I’ve definitely talked about your blog on my walks and now you’ve been there! So cool!

65 Lisa November 9, 2010 at 2:55 pm

I would LOVE to go to wine country in California! Is there lots of hiking too?
