Yesterday

All my troubles seemed to far away….

this !

We had Kodiak cakes for breakfast – with chocolate chips! Mazen did the flippin’

Yesterday this song was on repeat. Love Chris Stapleton! I listened to a great playlist all morning while making this recipe for an upcoming post. Can’t wait to tell you more!

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play. Because I met Thomas for a lunch date at Citizen Bowl! I told myself I’d try something new but I HAD to get the #Umami bowl again. He got the Citizen bowl (fiesta-style) and we shared <3

On Wednesday night we made Jessica’s Spicy Beer Braised Lime Chicken Enchiladas. They were fab.

I had them for dinner two nights in a row – Wednesday hot from the oven and last night after soccer.

I need some help with jeans! My favorites are wearing a little thin. And some of the others in my closet just fall down my waist too much! I hate having to stand up and tug on the belt loops. I want to invest in a good high waisted pair. Not mom-style high waist from the 90s and not fashionista high waist so they reach my bra, just a high enough waist that they sit on my hips and don’t slouch when I sit and stand. Any recommendations? I found these from Madewell, and these on sale (but are they low rise?) I have never owned any Paige jeans but have heard great things! These are cropped and seem reasonable and cute. I might have to order a few to try on at home (or drive to Richmond!) Please share your all-time favorite jeans!!

Thankkkkkks. kbye.

Oh, I believe in yesterday.

This wouldn’t be an “investment” but I have been LOVING Old Navy Rockstar midride jeans (they have high rise too and a lot of styles) for about 2 years now and always get compliments on them. I have multiple pairs of probably the darkest blue jean wash available since I like the dark look and it doesn’t show stains. They will loosen up after a few wears but then you just wash them and they tighten up again. My body has been fluctuating over the last 2 years after a baby, breastfeeding, running a half marathon, ending breastfeeding, etc and since they are so inexpensive ($35 full price but there are always sales) I bought a smaller size when I was at the height of my training and still felt good in clothes that fit. I LOVE these jeans

I have to say…I’m a Old Navy Rock Star fan too! I have many more expensive brand jeans but these don’t even feel like a jean and are so so comfortable. I have so many people ask about them, and turned them onto them too. I tend to size up in them. I also love my Kut from the Kloth jeans. I just received a pair of ‘Just Black’ from Stitch Fix and I love them too! They don’t fall down and they fit true to size. Good jeans are so HARD to find…especially a fit that works for you.

Agree, I like that the Old Navy jeans have a Curvy mid rise jean, that’s what works for me. If you have definite hips I’d recommend trying those on. And so inexpensive you can buy many pairs!

I used to wear the Rock Star jeans from Old Navy and they were fine. They got the job done, fit comfortably and looked OK. I tried the Madewell semi high rise this year and am in love! At a higher price point, the tailoring is a bit nicer-the tapered ankle looks better than the Rock Star and the high waist feels flattering and SECURE. Also, the girls at the store are super knowledgeable and can help you find the perfect pair. I would definitely recommend going in person as there are a lot of styles to sort through.

I have a pair. They fit really well when I tried them on, and then they shrank when I washed them. 🙁 They’re also a little big in the waist on me, so they start to do the falling down thing. Maybe better for someone who’s not too curvy in the hip region.

I recently re-discovered GAP jeans. I was a bit skeptical when I was trying them on, because I remembered their jeans from 10 years ago that everyone seemed to rave about, but I found to be overpriced, a bit flimsy, and prone to wear-and-tear. However, they seemed to have made several positive changes, because I was really pleasantly surprised at how well-made they are when I tried them on. The material is sturdy but still has enough stretch to be form-fitting and flattering. They had a number of fit options (I liked both the curvy skinny and the true skinny), and great colors (I got black and an olive green color, for only $60 combined). Full-price they are around $60-80 per pair, but they often have 40% off sales and/or deals on their jeans.

Also, I love your blog! I love seeing your adventures with Thomas and Mazen, and it’s great to see how happy you all are together.

I have a great higher waisted pair of Paige that I love, and then another pair with a boxier waist that I spend the entire day hitching up. The fabric is different so it stretches too much, and then by the end of the day I can basically pull them down without unbuttoning them. So, if you are looking at Paige spend some time lunging around the store to see what happens.

Hi Kath! Long-time reader…first time commenter! I also have a big problem with jeans falling down my waist and hate always having to pull them up, so over the past few months I made it my mission to find some well-made jeans that actually work (for me at least). I’m OBSESSED with the Madewell Roadtripper jeans, but really all of the Madewell high-rise jeans I’ve tried have been absolutely amazing. I also have two pairs of high-waisted PrAna jeans that work great. If you try out any of the PrAna’s, I would order a size down because I felt their high-rise jeans ran a bit big. Good luck!!

You should try the Invisibelt!!!! I use it with a lot of my pants that sit on the hips, and it really helps to keep your jeans and pants up. Seriously, before you totally switch to higher waist jeans you should really try it, I can’t remember the price, but I know it’s very reasonable. I bet I wear mine 3 or 4 days a week.

The Madewell Jeans are fantastic. I’m 5’5″ and the 10″ rise is quite high, but very comfortable; depending on what you like, they also have 9″ rise jeans. Their Tencel fabric is really nice; they use different fabrics in some of their jeans; all are good, the ones with more Tencel are more legging-like (they mention that in some of the descriptions). Btw, it looks like you can get $20 off on a pair by sending in your old ones: https://www.madewell.com/madewell_feature/dowell.jsp?intcmp=home_p6_dowell

I am super picky about jeans! I think because for most of my life I just didn’t think they were designed for my body (slender waist, muscular thighs) – everything that fit my legs gapped at the waist! And I think you and I have similar-ish body styles. Maybe? My 2 favorite brands are Seven for All Mankind (not to be confused with Sevens7) and Citizen for Humanity. They manage to fit both my waist and my thighs! They are pricey, but I have never regretted spending the money. I live in them. And they hold up well over time. I just never dry them in the machine – line dry only! Paige jeans are great too, but can sometimes run slender in the thighs, so it may take some searching for the right style.

Yes I ALWAYS have to buy the ‘short’ version. I’m 5’2″!

I HIGHLY recommend Madewell jeans! I have curvy legs and have always had a hard time making jeans work. I gave Madewell a try last year and now have three pairs of their 10” high-waisted jeans (my fav: https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DENIMBAR/highriseskinnyjeans/PRDOVR~H2245/H2245.jsp) . They are the best I’ve every had. The colors are also holding up as well and totally worth the money.

I found a brand at Dillard’s that I love. It’s called Kut and they aren’t high but they also don’t show any of my back buts when I bend down. I have a much bigger booty and hips than you though so that’s my struggle point with jeans. They’re really nice, but definitely more expensive than the Old Navy recommendations I’m seeing. Good fitting jeans are worth it, though!

I’m short (5’2”) and a little thick (normally size 12/14). I used to wear the Old Navy Rock Star and still have a ton, but I switched to Gap Jeggings and skimmer denim leggings (my favorite ones are from the Gap Factory portion of their store). They’re under same umbrella as Old Navy, but seem slightly more substantial than the Rock Star.

I totally agree with Leela! I was looking for a pair of gray skinny jeans recently and found some at a consignment shop…lo and behold, they were from The Gap! I had not bought Gap jeans since middle school…and they’re amazing! I already ordered 2 more pairs. I like the Mid Rise 360 Stretch True Skinny Jeans. No inching down and I don’t need a belt!

Honestly, Old Navy’s “Rockstar” jeans are the best (and cheapest) reliable jeans I have found. They come is a ton of different colors and only cost about $30. They are high-waisted and stretchy enough without feeling like leggings. I usually stock up on a few pairs of denim and black and don’t have to worry about buying jeans for a year. I have tried Paige jeans, as well as other spendy brands, and I have found that they all basically look the same and tend to fade over time.

I love Paige, Joe’s and AG. AG’s don’t bag out, but I have on a new pair today that I’m apparently going to have to wear a belt with. I have to keep tugging them up. Either wear a belt or eat more ice cream. 🙂

P.S. Shop for those jeans at Nordstrom Rack. You’ll save a ton as opposed to buying them at Nordstrom.

My favorites are the JCrew toothpick jeans followed by Madewell – like someone else said, if you bring in an old pair of jeans to Madewell, they give you $$ off a new pair!

I just got my first pair of Paige jeans from Jean Theory and I LOVE the higher rise! I was skeptical because you know, Mom Jeans, but they are super flattering and stay put.

I love Loft’s jeans and they’re always running a great sale. Very flattering, do not fade, and the ‘leggings’ style are very comfortable and still look like jeans!

Rag and Bone High-Rise, available at Nordstrom and online. Pricey but worth it! So comfy and I never have to pull them up. I hate that too!

    Wit & Wisdom!
Go down at least 1 size…maybe even 2. They are thin so great year round, don’t stretch out and get saggy, and super soft & reasonably priced for nice jeans! PLUS with the nordstroms policy you can take off the tags, wash, wear a few times and if they don’t work you can still return them. HEART Nordstroms!!!

I LOVE my madewell high-waisted skinny jeans! Get the 9″ instead of the 10″ – plenty high. Slightly stretchy and so comfy and cute – totally worth the price tag if you ask me!

I wear the Old Navy Rockstars, but find I have to keep pulling them up. I LOVE the high rise from Banana Republic Factory! They fit great, are super soft, stay up and stretch minimally. I have in both dark blue and black. Usually on sale from $25-$35.

I bought a pair of the Paige Hoxton high waist jeans during the Nordstrom sale over the summer and I love them so much that I bought another pair of the same jeans in a slightly darker color. I love that they aren’t so tapered and tight at the ankle. They fit more like a skinny ankle pant. I’m 5’4″ and I got the first pair hemmed because they were a bit too long, but when I ordered the second pair, there was a petite option and the length is perfect. They are very soft and comfy and don’t stretch out. I can wear them 2-3 times before I have to wash them.

I’m LOVING my Express Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans. I saw Fit Foodie Finds post about them and got some during Black Friday and they are awesome. Stretchy, hold their shape, not too expensive. I feel like you and I have similar body types too – muscular thighs and a booty with a smaller waist. These fit great and I don’t get a gap in the back like I usually do!

Apologies if someone else already said this, but Madewell will give you a discount on full-prize jeans if you bring in an old pair of jeans to donate (it’s either 20% off or $20 off, can’t remember…) Great deal since it sounds like you are ready to get rid of some pairs!

I’ve had 3 babies in 4.5 years…and have tried on A LOT of jeans with all the body changes. I really like high waist skinnies from Madewell, AG Farrah Jeans, and high waisted jean leggings from Express. Good luck! Please report your findings back to us. 😉

I can vouch for the Madewells – not that exact pair, but I have one with similar measurements on the rise and labeled “high riser skinny”. I am petite, 5’1″, and they worked great. I have a little extra on the tummy but these tuck it in nicer than the lower rise jeans I own, and no need for a belt! The pants on your link have a little more elastic than mine, but the amount in mine leaves them decently comfortable and flattering. I got really lucky at a consignment store 😀

Other jeans that tend to be reliable are Loft’s petite sizes. I found a pair that wasn’t super tight from the calf down so they are more comfortable than skinny jeans. They tend to work for other-color jeans as well, like maroon and khaki. I tend to need a belt with most of them, though, with my shape and ‘modern’ fit. Good luck!
