Tropical Smoothie Bowl (And Homemade Slime!)

To me, texture makes up 75% of the joy in a smoothie bowl. I like it thick enough that berries float and a spoon is much more practical than a straw. And if you have little air bubbles on top you know you’ve gotten a good texture! (You know what texture I really dislike in smoothies? Frozen or icy.)

You know what else has great texture? Homemade slime!

this !

This Elmer’s Glue recipe is so easy after you hunt down some contact lens solution. All you need is Elmer’s Glue (traditional or a fancy glitter color) plus baking soda and contact solution.

Back to the smoothie! Tropical fruits – bananas and mango – give this bowl most of its superb texture.

I added full-fat cottage cheese for more thickening power, a touch of tang, and a nice heft of protein.

And finally, spinach gives it a lovely shade of muted green, plus bonus nutrition. I almost always throw a handful of spinach into my smoothies because why not!?

Serves two! One of me, one for Mr. Mazen.

Can’t wait to try the smoothie bowl recipe! It’d be so nice in the hot weather. 🙂

I want to enjoy smoothies again, but my blender absolutely terrifies my 22mo. :/ we have the ninja. It works well but it’s so darn loud. I’ve tried it a few times and every time it ends in tears!

I tried to make slime with my son last year and made a mess. I don’t know what I did wrong–I must not follow directions well. HA! 🙂

Ha – you might have missed one of the key ingredients. We tried it a week earlier before I had the contact solution and it totally didn’t work.

I had contact solution, but it may have been old? Or maybe I added too much? You have inspired me to perhaps try again 🙂

Do you find cottage cheese better than greek yogurt or almond milk in the smoothie bowl? does it make a difference if you’re doing a smoothie drink?

It has way more protein than almond milk and gives it a cheesecake flavor. I like Greek yogurt too though!
