Things For Spring

IMG_9965-2Blog this !

Remember when our yard looked like this? Lush and green and balmy. I can’t wait!

In the meantime, here are things I’m excited about for spring!

Things-For-Spring

    1. Industrial String Lights from West Elm would be gorgeous on the porch
    2. Light Between The Oceans to read at the beach!
    3. Springy LOFT Dress
    4. A cheerful tablecloth for the first outdoor dinner
    5. A happy scarf for cool mornings
    6. A reminder to re-order more of the best face sunscreen
    7. A sparkling new pair of silver sandals
    8. Outdoor pillows for the porch
    9. A bright and cheerful beach tote
    10. Awesome melamine plates in bright colors! Baby friendly : )
    11. My favorite bikini top – in pink!
    12. We’re on the market for a bench for our outdoor table. If the thrift store turns us up empty handed, this one is perfectly neutral
    13. Palm Tree Toms!

Hurry up Spring!

    Dear Kath,
Love your blog! One remark on today’s post: melamine is not baby friendly; there are several studies showing that toxic particles of melamine table wear is bad for your health. I would not recommend it for babies!

It’s all very confusing! I have only just heard this recently as well. But then just try finding anything ‘baby friendly’ that IS safe. There is one company that sells silicone covered glass plates but they’re almost completely out-of-stock on their website! For now we’re using correlle but I’ve even heard negative things about that. Sigh.

Love everything in this post, I just might be doing some online shopping later today. In fact I was just looking at Loft’s website (40 % everything!). What else is on your reading list? I am thinking that Light Between the Oceans is at the top of my list, right now I am reading the Ashford Affair by Lauren Willig (very good so far). Any recommendations on your favorite sunglasses? After breaking/losing my favorites I need some new ones.

Tons of our camping dishes are melamine. I just Googled a little and found out that we’re probably safe.
    (From the FDA website)
“It has been found that melamine does not migrate from melamine-formaldehyde tableware into most foods. The only measured migration, in tests, was from some samples (three out of 19 commercially available plates and cups) into acidic foods, under exaggerated conditions (that is, the food was held in the tableware at 160 oF for two hours). When adjusted for actual-use conditions (cold orange juice held in the tableware for about 15 minutes), the migration would be less than 10 parts of melamine per billion parts of juice.

This is 250 times lower than the level of melamine (alone or even in combination with related compounds – analogues – known to increase its toxicity) that FDA has concluded is acceptable in foods other than infant formula (2,500 parts per billion); in other words, well below the risk level. In addition, such highly acidic foods make up only about 10% of the total diet, so the dietary level of melamine in these scenarios would be less than one part per billion.

However, when highly acidic foods are heated to extreme temperatures (e.g.,160 ° F or higher), the amount of melamine that migrates out of the plastic can increase. Foods and drinks should not be heated on melamine-based dinnerware in microwave ovens. Only ceramic or other cookware which specifies that the cookware is microwave-safe should be used. The food may then be served on melamine-based tableware.”

I’ve been eyeing that athleta bikini top! Penelope turns one at the end of May and I *think* I’ll be bikini ready by this summer ;). Is it as awesome and supportive as it looks?! True to bra size? And do you wear straps straight or cross crossed? And which bottoms did you get? I think I like the shirred. So many questions! Enjoy your Monday!

It really is the best bikini top I’ve owned. I have it in black and got the simple black bottoms to go with it. I always bought halter tops so I could tie them tight to be supportive enough but this is even better and so much more comfortable.

Awesome. I’m buying today! I have so many halter tops, but my boobs are too big and my neck hurts so much at the end of the day. The halters leave a major indent in my neck! Looking forward to another option. Thanks!
