The Nick Of Time

WOW, I’ve never missed a flight [knock on wood] but Emily and I sure came close today!

Rain + dark + DC rush hour meant that we were in a parking lot on the way to the airport. Although it was 4 miles away, I think we were moving about 4 miles per hour. Our trip was not going to happen by car. Had we been without suitcases or a hurt leg, we might have been able to RUN there faster!

IMG_9443

Enter: The Metro. We should have just had Casey drop us off there to begin with! Once we were at the Metro station we were at the airport in 10 minutes.

IMG_9442

THEN we had an even longer hike to Frontier Airlines. We just made it to our gate with enough time to buy a coffee (which thankfully wasn’t too bad) and hop on board.

I am not a fan of Frontier Airlines (which I heard was so good!) No WiFi on the flight. No movies or TV (well, they cost extra).

HOWEVER, we are in GOOD SPIRITS!!!!

IMG_9444

3 straight hours of talking, some magazine reading, some blogging. Happy Flyers.

IMG_9449

Breakfast today was packed for the flight. We were quite hungry by the time it was safe to put down tray tables.

IMG_9446

English muffin sandwiches with mashed banana, almond butter and pumpkin butter. I ate the other half of my banana at 6:30 when I packed the sandwich and it did well tiding me over until I had time to actually eat.

IMG_9448

Delicious, but gone too fast!! While I am normally a 3-meals-a-day-plus-one-snack type, when I travel, especially to the West, I think mini meals + snacks make more sense with my hunger levels. And we have lots of snacks ready to go!

IMG_9447

We landed in Denver and were greeted by a lovely hostess carrying some SMOOTHIES!! Jamba Banana + Granola Berry Blasts. Thanks Ashley!

I always try to pack my food when I’m flying. I feel kinda bad with all the hungry people on the plane staring at me but airport food is horrible! Mini-meals are definitely the way to go too.

I love the idea of mashed banana + pumpkin on an english muffin. That just might have to be breakfast tomorrow!

I am so nervous about being late for flights that I would have left way too early and hung out at the airport. I do not like rushing at all — too stressful!

    Enjoy your time!

I like that packing my own snacks for flying means not only better food, but less packaging and waste. I pack snacks in small containers and have some convenient bamboo utensils along, if necessary.

Aw, bummer. i’m a Frontier fan. Their leg room and seats are comfy, and since my job isn’t dependent on wifi (so I totally understand why you’d want it), I don’t mind not having it. I like that they are a “no-frills” airline and have good prices and flight hubs.

Good ol’ Frontier and DIA… you ladies landed in my neck of the woods! I like Frontier because I’ve rarely had a flight issue with them. I used to fly Frontier outta DIA to Chicago and take the Amtrak to Kalamazoo, MI where I was going to school. Frontier never let me down! And I’m a read on the plane kinda gal anyway, so lack of wifi/TV never bothered me. Hope you ladies are having fun fun fun! 🙂

Hi Kath! I’ve been reading your blog faithfully for several months now. . . You inspired me to try something new with the persimmons. I got 2 at the store. I ate one and it was terrible. I couldn’t even keep it in my mouth to chew. . . I’m trying to figure out why. Was it not ripe??? How can you be sure to get a good persimmon when you find them? I still have another but I’m afraid to taste it since the first one I had didn’t work out well. The ones I got are the taller/heart shaped variety. I really want to try again. If you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it (:
